???
How does the maths work on that? There would have to be about 5 and 1/2 million people on the dole for a $210 cut per person to save 1.1 billion. |

I would like to know what the supplementary grant was for in the first place. Surely it would be better to just put pensions or allowances up by $2 a week. I do find it objectionable that a party would clamp down on some grants, yet intend to implement paid maternity leave that would give up to $75,000 to some of our top income earners. If we need to start saving money, cutting down on middle class welfare would be a good start. |

This is a seperate conversation to your initial post. If there is no extra money coming from the mining tax for the dole recipients, then he is saving money. Your new point has nothing at all to do with this because the money is not coming form the MRRT, which is a dud tax, earning bugger all. Personally we need to breed less ferals and more middle income families, so anything that makes that happen is a good thing. Ferals tend to breed more ferals and I think Australia has more than enough of them at the moment, as the baby bonus saw them bugger like rabbits for a couple of plasma tvs an a new fridge. |

It's Joe's ACCOUNTING, I guess ? The Coalition has unveiled more than $31 billion in savings over four years to offset the cost of its huge tax cut and spending promises. National Economics Editor Jessica Irvine looks at the major cuts. SCRAP BUSINESS COMPENSATION FOR CARBON TAX (save $7.5 billion) Because a Coalition government would scrap the carbon tax (missing out on $9.6 billion in revenue), there would be no need to compensate for its ill effects. Households will get to keep their tax cuts and pension increases. But a Coalition government would scrap all compensation for business and other spending programs associated with the tax, saving $7.5 billion. AXE SUPERANNUATION BENEFITS FUNDED FROM MINING TAX (save $5.3 billion) Back in the good old days of the mining boom, Labor thought it was going to reap tens of billions of dollars from its mining tax. So it decided to put some if it into superannuation accounts. With the mining tax now raising much less than expected, Joe Hockey would also scrap $3.7 billion worth of top ups for the super accounts of low income earners, worth about $500 a year for workers on less than $35,000. He would also delay a ramp up in the Superannuation Guarantee for all workers which would have cost the budget $1.6 billion (because super is taxed at a lower rate). AXE 12,000 PUBLIC SERVANT JOBS (save $5.2 billion) Canberra property prices are poised to plunge if a Coalition government is elected. It would scrap 12,000 public servant jobs - not by firing people, but by not replacing them when they retire or leave their jobs. This represents a near 10 per cent haircut to the federal government bureaucracy which currently employs about 170,000 people. SCRAP BUSINESS TAX BREAKS (save $4.7 billion) In addition to super benefits, the Coalition would also axe business tax breaks that were to be funded by mining tax revenue. Business will miss out on an instant asset write-off provision, a phasedown of interest withholding tax, a tax loss carry back scheme and accelerated depreciation for motor vehicles. ABOLISH SCHOOLKIDS BONUS (save $4.6 billion) A million low income families will miss out on seeing Labor's schoolkids bonus twice every year in January and June. The cash bonus was worth $820 a year for every high school child and $410 for every primary school child and was unveiled in last year's budget. The Coalition says this is no longer affordable given the budget deterioration. REDUCE HUMANITARIAN REFUGEE INTAKE (save $1.3 billion) The Gillard government increased Australia's annual intake of humanitarian refugees from 13,750 places to 20,000. Tony Abbott initially said he supported the increase. But in its search for savings, the Coalition has pledged to reduce it back to 13,750 places a year, booking a saving of $1.3 billion across the four year budget horizon. SAVINGS FROM PAID PARENTAL LEAVE BUSINESS LEVY (save $1.1 billion) The cost of the Coalition's more generous paid parental leave scheme will be more than offset in its first two years. The total cost of the scheme over two years is $9.8 billion. But the 1.5 per cent levy ( ... Great Big New Tax, passed on to consumers) on big business will reap $4.4 billion, replacing existing state and federal funded schemes will save $4.9 billion and $1.6 billion will be clawed back from mothers because their higher incomes under the scheme will mean they pay more tax and will qualify for fewer benefits. AXE A WELFARE SUPPLEMENT FUNDED BY MINING TAX (save $1.1 billion) A twice yearly supplementary allowance paid to dole recipients of $105 a year will no longer be paid by a Coalition government. This supplement was to have been funded by the mining tax revenue. WIND BACK ASSISTANCE TO CAR INDUSTRY (save $500 million) In contrast to Labor which is offering ever more assistance to the struggling car industry, an Abbott government would slash car industry grains by half a billion dollars. AXE CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE GRANTS (save $300 million) A Coalition government would scrap Labor's Carbon Capture and Storage Flagships program and redirect money to pay for its own promises on the environment, which include a multi billion dollar "Direct Action" plan and a $300 million Green Army. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/special-features/joe-hockey-releases-details-of-cuts-coalition-would-make-in-government/story-fnho52qp-1226705838347 |

A twice yearly supplementary allowance paid to dole recipients of $105 a year will no longer be paid by a Coalition government.
I wouldn't expect anything else from the coalition. The $1.1 billion saving will be put to good use, maybe to help struggling Christian schools, the church, banks, community advertising to tell us to cross the road at the crossing or we might get hit by a car, or maybe even AFL, after all, our national sport can never have enough stadiums. |

The newly created jobs. The jobs where they haven't found anybody yet. The jobs in crap locations. The jobs vacant figure is only snapshot of the jobs market - it doesn't mean that these positions are newly created, have been vacant for any extended period or are open to those without specialised skills. |

Have a look at them. Mostly casual and part time, not suitable for a person that has to support a family. Jim's mowing, mystery shopper, catalogue delivery (you'd have to literally work 24/7 to pay half the rent) many of the advertised jobs are actual scams where you sign up and pay money up front. Then we have the four hours a week positions, the must have four years experience, the skilled positions, junior positions. Now, how many manufacturing jobs for middle aged men? How many jobs for ex public servants? they don't have much skill in the private sector. That probably leaves 1,000 jobs for 700,000 job seekers. Unemployment is a major issue........bigger than boat people even. |

If these people want an extra $105 twice a year they could probably earn more in 2 days work with the minimum wage at over $15 per hour. The dole was never meant to be a lifestyle choice, if you want more money get a job. They only give the dole to losers with less than 3k in the bank, i would not qualify for the dole if i lost my job. |

Oh - when did the government get $1.1bn out of the mining industry? ;D
Ha ha - I qualified for the dole as a 'loser' - I had the company go broke syndrome, followed by the 'you're too old' bullshit we get these days, followed by 'no room at the inn for MEN these days' crap, and so on ad nauseum - I was bust because I spent all my remaining money, including superannuation, on bills only to be driven into a corner by never-ending costs added to those when I was bust - after years of paying everything off early. Talk about the running of the bills! I should have spent all my remaining money on booze, women, holidays and lotto tickets... then told 'em I had no money anyway.... I guess all those eighteen hour days on call etc, and the woeful 'management' that has ruined this country makes me a 'loser' to some morons! Now - why am I here - and in other places - again - as the permanent opposition to any and all government idiocy these days and stirring yez all up to revolt as you should if you had any brains? VOTE 'EM ALL OUT! ;D :D :o |
Title: Re: How putrid and petty is this??? Post by Honky on Aug 29th, 2013 at 10:44pm
Seeing as how the majority of dole recipients are only on it for the short term, while they're between jobs, getting a hundred bucks twice a year isn't going to really affect them.
Who it will affect however, is the long term layabouts - and that's precisely who need to be affected. |
