Word around Canberra is that Margie spent three months in a women’s shelter the Xmas before last. It’s only a rumour, however, apparently there are people who claim it to be true. I don’t know who those people are but I’m sure they’re worried about coming forward. Much the same as the pissing in the shoes episode at a Canberra restaurant. Witnesses are worried.

Having watched Tony Abbott walk into innumerable press conferences holding his grown-up daughters hands while leaving his wife to trail along behind, having cringed as he says candidates have sex appeal, and telling the female apprentice that she must be the most popular apprentice there, and telling young netballers that there’s nothing wrong with a bit of body contact as they crushed together for a photo, I would fully understand if she kicked his sorry ass to the curb.

So it looks like it is true about the alleged marriage break up of Abbott and his wife or is that just  someone playing silly buggers? Just wondering…

Seriously - while no stock should be taken in rumours and i wouldnt accuse abbott of abuse i would like to point out that doing community service has nothing to do with domestic abuse. Anyone from any walk of life could be that kind of person and beat their spouse in secret. Families that are abused tend not to talk about it and usually out of fear. I have seen lawyers and business ppl and even "pastors" (is that the word?) that were abusing their spouses and /or children. Its not something to be taken likely and neither is the accusation.

What I find odd is that there really is not much to talk about.

Margie is a very credible person with strong community values but mostly keeps her nose out of politics except when Gillard was attacking Tony in a very personal way in a highly inaccurate way.

Rudd's Buffalo is not a good look wife for a Labor man being a very rich lady, but she also mostly keeps her nose out.
She would be a great asset if Rudd was in the Liberal party.

Your right neither needs to get overly involved and they really have not over done anything to deserve any undue media attention, but the cosmo crowd will still want to know.

I live in a Blue Liberal area and you have to drive for about hr to have any chance of hitting an electorate held by an ALP member. What I notice this election is the real lack of posters. Decades ago you would see houses littered with posters.

I was driving out west yesterday and after 45 minutes I saw 1 Poster .... a Greens one.

Last election they were all over the place.

To be Honest I have either not seen an ALP poster or an Lib one for that matter (or not noticed).

The same thing happened in the NSW state election re brand ALP, ALP was there but in very small lettering.

I saw dozens of posters in that election. The ALP were in power looking at a big loss like the Federal Government.

I am suspicious about the ALP's bold face lying on their chances or they just don't have the $$ to splurge on a campaign where they look like losing.

I was even driving around main roads in marginal seats and I still did not see an ALP or Lib poster.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I'd picked up two volumes entitled 'The People's Choice - Electoral Politics in 20th Century NSW'

Volume One runs from 1901 to 1927.  Volume Two covers 1930 to 1965

Both are filled with fascinating tidbits.  But what genuinely came as a shock to me is how Labor's reputation has remained constant through the decades as a corrupt party filled with corrupt individuals

For example, back in the day, Labor deliberately chose one of their own - a minor no-one - based on his surname, which just happened to be the same surname as a well-known opposition member.  Labor was hoping it would confuse voters and trick voters into giving them votes intended for the opposition
