Title: What's Bill's thinking on the TPP? Post by MOTR on Oct 15th, 2013 at 3:01am
The TPP represents the most serious threat I have seen to our sovereignty and democracy. Where are our political leaders and why aren't they leading this debate?
Thank God for the nurses in NZ. At least they realise what's at stake. Quote:

Kevin Zeese was press secretary and spokesperson for Ralph Nader in 2004. A voice for the little people in the US. Where are our voices?

What happens when Tony reintroduces work choices. How will Bill ever be able to wind it back when he risks corporations suing us for the profits they will claim to have lost. And all they have to do is come up with a number they can convince three corporate lawyers is reasonable.
If Bill doesnt come out swinging on this issue, he'll have lost me before he even starts. |

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/society-and-culture/long-arm-of-us-piracy-law-will-reach-further-than-you-think-20120118-1q6h0.html This is the legislation that inspired Google, Wikipedia, and Craig's List to run a 24-hour blackout on their home pages to protest. Wikipedia blacked out access to its widely-used, user-generated, free-source content. Inserting a search term took users briefly to the relevant page before it was replaced by a protest page with the headline "Imagine a world without free knowledge." Quote:

I think people are thinking that way all around the Pacific, at least those who know about it. http://youtu.be/q2U2S7RWfNk |

This agreement is irrational - but it's been in the pipeline for a while. Labor was considering it too and they will buckle when they're told to. Albanese might have fought this issue - but Shorten won't. What sort of country have we become? Surely our leaders if they were independent would run from this - but they don't have minds of their own and get their orders from a higher power. |

At least Labor had ruled out the possibility of any ISDS clauses, it even looked like they had been successful in gaining an exception. The Coalition policy is clear. They will accept ISDS clauses if the price is right. Bringing in fracking and work choices through the back door might be the right price. Who wouldn't put it past this bloke selling out to Big Pharma. Quote:
