Arguably it was the carbon tax the brought down our last government. And quite possibly Abbott's ruthless quest to repeal the tax will take us to the cusp of a DD. Shorten's stance on the issue will define his leadership of the Labor party and perhaps create fissures that will never heal. It's the biggest political issue in town.

Carbon pollution and adaption to the outcome of this pollution are major issues and will be for the long term.

Just because conservatives are in denial doesn't mean we can't remind them they are in denial.

Even if the carbon tax is repealed eventually - it will make no difference to our bills. The private electricity companies will use the extra money as an excuse for another price increase.

It's a futile exercise.
