Title: Sickening sight - Shorten honours Soldiers Post by red baron on Nov 3rd, 2013 at 6:23pm
Made me reach for the puke bucket watching Bill Shorten trying to look statesman like in Afghanistan.
The sight of that Union thug, turd and hatchetman raving on to true heros rates as the disgusting moment in Politics this week. Can't get any worse but with Shorten that dirty little thug around it's bound to. |

I would wager that if Tony Abbott saved the life of a young child who was drowning in the surf at a beach and would surely have died if not for his help, you'd still find some way of criticising him for it. You're pathetic. |

Shorten will have plenty of opportunities to show a public face on behalf of the ALP for the simple reason that Abbott is absent.
Shorten is an opportunist and he will get the publicity that Abbott is going to such great lengths to avoid. Abbott needs to come out of hiding. |

Let's be realistic Cods. Abbott is supposed to be the face of Australia. If he doesn't want to be that, because he's basically an introvert, then others will take his spot in the limelight. People want to know what's going on and if they don't know the facts - they will speculate. Look what happened to Rudd because he was always overseas. |

I agree! In fact, what I find "sickening", are some of the comments on this thread, from both sides of the Political divide, which appear to be the usual Political points scoring and I would think that honoring our soldiers should be beyond that. But, more than that, some of these comments are outright DIS-honors to the memory of our armed service personnel, who have represented all of us in overseas missions. In general, I have no problem with Political points scoring, although it is generally a waste of time, as it isn't going to achieve what is needed in the longer term, But I do find the attempted linkage between "Political Leaders", from both major party's, with those who have died & been injured whilst doing their duty on our behalf, as particularly repugnant! I would suggest the appropriate course for this thread, is that it should simply "wither on the vine", so to speak. |
Title: Re: Sickening sight - Shorten honours Soldiers Post by red baron on Nov 4th, 2013 at 11:02am
Frances, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with honouring Soldiers. AS a returned serviceman I think I have the right to say, it depends on who is doing the honouring.
Tony Abbott, fine, he has a clean slate and has done plenty for the Community away from Politics...his RFS Work, His Life Saving work, his work with the Aboriginals (the latter largely unrecognised) Like I said, no respecting solider would recognise a Union thug spilling out platitudes...Shorten's background is dark and sinister everything from impregnating his secretary to heavying in the Union movement. What has he done for the Community? Anything at all? No...he is like Julia Gillard, totally self serving. He would have seen the Afghanistan thing as a photo opportunity. He is going to turn out far worse than Gillard and Rudd. His background will catch up with him, mark my words. |

Get over yourself Baron, there is an expectation the leader of the two major parties would be there. If he didnt show you would claim he snubbed them. His actions while on this duty where what you would expect. He didnt say anything out of turn, nor did his actions. You dont like the guy, thats fine, but try point scoring when he does stuff up otherwise you look like a partisan hack. |

It's always embarrassing when the pollies come around and try to make small talk with the diggers. You know, you stand there and give them a go, but they're always desperate to get away. Abbott's "sh!t happens" line was a good example of a pollie trying to be one of the boys. That's right, son. Sh!t happens. Politicans like you send men like me to the jungle or the desert to fight some non-existent enemy and then lose because you don't know who they are. Sh!t happens alright. Maybe one day the pollies will have an ah-ha moment and decide to use the Australian Defense Force for, you know, defense. I'm not holding my breath though. Sh!t happens. |

I would think it would be a special moment for them... those at home havent forgotten them.. most of us wouldnt have a clue what they live with or what they think.. I have never heard of any serviceman complaining about a visit from their Pm.. or leader of the Opposition.. NEVER. |

The "Pig Iron Bob" episode (where legal correctness triumphed over common sense) was actually in the lead up to World War II - November 1938 to be precise. Those were the days when Communists had a considerable influence in some of the blue collar unions unions. The militancy of the waterfont unions in this era was a response to shocking working conditions and exploitation by employers and substantial numbers of unionists saw the Communist Party rather than the Labor Party as their saviours. Yes, there was militancy on the wharves and yes, some of the men were not well educated and easily led, but this was not the only reason for delays on the docks - inefficiencies inherent in the casual system of labour, introduced in the wake of the "Dog Collar" Act of 1928 had quite a bit to do with it too. And the Waterside Workers' Federation actually supported the Stevedoring Industry Commission, when it was set up in 1942 to investigate delays on the wharves. |

If he’s not on morphine now, best to get him down to the quack’s for a script quick, poor bloke. He must be in agony. You can take your PM and your GG and put them in the spare bed with poor old hubbie. If you want to finish him off, that should do it. Might as well get it over with. HAVE I EVER BEEN ON THE FIRING LINE????? Sorry, love, I’ve forgotten the question. |
