Title: What Got a Smile out of You, Today???
Post by Kat on Nov 20th, 2013 at 7:05pm
Most forums have a 'What made you smile today' thread, somewhere.

OzPol appears not to.

Well, trendsetters, it has now...

Seen a cyclist get run over by a semi? A dog bitten by a human?

A jockey ride an honest race (TM)?  Did you win $25000 on a 'scratchie'?

Then lose it all on the ponies? Bought a new car/motorcycle? Scored a new
girlfriend/boyfriend and or gotten rid of one?

Whatever... post it up!

There are only TWO THREE rules...

1/ NO political stuff (well, this IS the 'off-topic' board, save that for Pols Suck or General).

2/ No second-hand or anecdotal stories, it MUST have happened to YOU.

and...

3/ PLEASE don't troll...

Ok...

To kick off, I sold two bicycles today, without even leaving the room.

One is part-owned by myself and the Men's Shed, and went for $45.00 (a third theirs, two thirds mine).

It is completely refurbed and ready to ride away when the buyer picks it up on Friday.

The other belongs to me, and went for $55.00.

It's good, but needs a full overhaul, a few hours work at least.

He's picking it up on Sunday afternoon.

I'm smiling, for sure!

I can relate to that, John.

Best part is when you have finished, and are sitting with a cold beer admiring your work...  :) ;)

Motorways/freeways - YUK!

I used to live in Sydney, so know my way around it pretty well.

I NEVER use tollways/motorways.

I'm a 'rat-runner', I suppose, but in my defense many motorways/tollways
weren't even there then, so easy to avoid if you are in the know.

me either..  not if I can help it..

What made ME smile today..?
Lots of things..
but something unique..??

for the first time I have a horse on my land..
doesn't belong to me.. she is considered intractable.. a massive interest as a two yr old..speed..bloodlines... BUT something ? happened to her.. and going from being a filly everyone wanted to get on,, she became the filly no-one would go near.

She's been out in the paddock for 4 yrs..  till my friend got offered her as a ride, while his own mare recovered from an injury..  he has a penchant for 'crazy horses' ...he hasn't got on her back yet..

so  yep .. I offered a place for her, and went along to collect her.
She has been here for a couple of weeks.. and  .. she loves me..  a little..  :) :) :) :) :) :)
BIG SMILES

those toll thingies in Sydney are a scam ... I never could understand why it needed to have a minimum balance of $80. There was no way I would think of getting one. I would have been lucky to use it twice a year maybe $6 each time. I much prefer the Brisbane system ... my minimum balance is $10, and I can even use it if I drive to Sydney.

All gave me smiles.

Didn't happen this morning, but recently, and I am still smiling with relief.
The bridesmaids' dresses came in.

My daughter is getting married and we ordered the dresses in March. Yes, that's right-8 months ago. They were fully paid off months ago.
We've got the wedding in less than a month and I have been ringing every few weeks since August to try to get some action but the owner didn't seem to see the problem and said this is normal. It's not. I am by way of a wedding expert, this is my second wedding for a daughter this year.

Well, at least now they are in. Whether we have time for alterations for one of the girls I am not sure, it will be down to the wire.
But they are in. Smiling with relief. :)

I like Emma's story.
We have a little welsh mountain pony who's in his thirties. Every morning when I come out the back door he gives me a sort of chortle coz he knows I'm coming to give him just a little treat of chaff . . .and I smile.

Oh, but Stuart Broad's 6-81... absolute classic figures to help get Australia out for a (reasonable) score of 295. Must remember that, and give the English a big smile for their efforts.

I'm at a loss as to why the English refer to Australians as convicts. As the reason that convicts were sent to Australia from England, shouldn't England be seen as the land of convicts, and not Australia?

Conversation in the car on the way to do some shopping earlier today ... we were praising the 4yr old because he dressed himself.

Mum tried to claim 4 yr olds dress sense as being due to her genes to which the four year old replied ' but mummy, you don't know how to dress'..... I laughed all the way to the shops ... wifey dearest wasn't happy but even she had to laugh....

Went fossicking with friends, for the first time.

Did a little panning, and tried my metal detector out.

Only found a golf-ball (about 30km from the nearest golf course) and a 3' black snake.

Still, it was fun, and something different...

well I have to nominate  ..'the Ring that came out of the Ring'.., :D

on the News here in Newjohland.. 11 days ago a thief was seen and apprehended, after he had swallowed two (2) valuable diamond rings.

The QLD police have had him locked up, waiting for him to 'pass' on these rings...   ;D

Today.. the second Ring came thru the ring...    it was a monster..  huge square cut diamond, surrounded by lots and lots of smaller diamonds..
Magnificent  BUT

OUCH!!,  :'(
..its been cleaned,  extensively, and will now be auctioned for charity.
But thats not the funniest bit.

It seems,  hee hee,  that the other Ring was  'accidentally'   THROWN OUT by the cops.!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-?

(Scene: Parliament House. Two Holden marketing executives are in Joe Hockey’s office)
Executive #1: Thanks for meeting us, Mr Treasurer.
Joe Hockey: No problem. But I warn you, it won’t be a long meeting. There will be no subsidy increase.
Executive #2: Oh, but you haven’t seen our latest model, Mr Treasurer. It’s a game-changer!
Executive #1: A guaranteed winner! A mega-seller!
(The men present a large colour photograph and slide it across Hockey’s desk)
Hockey: [pause] This is a standard current model 2013 Holden Commodore. What’s new about it?
Executive #1: Take a closer look, Mr Treasurer.
Executive #2: Yes, Mr Treasurer. Look at the badges.
(Joe Hockey squints at the photograph)
Hockey: The Holden … Mandela?
Executive #2: If you say no to the Holden Mandela, Mr Treasurer, you’ll be saying no to the greatest human being who ever lived.
Executive #1: It’s a rolling tribute to the unifier of all humankind, Mr Treasurer.
Hockey: Are you people serious?
Executive #2: As serious as the mobs who will gather outside your house once they learn how much you hate the father of modern Africa, Mr Treasurer.
Hockey: What the …
Executive #1: This model also has the top of the line Madiba option package, Mr Treasurer, with Robben Island trim and Biko brakes.
Executive #2: Zuma zoom-zoom V6 power!
Executive #1: Stompie Seipei seat inserts!
Executive #2: Low-profile Bridgestone necklaces and …
Hockey: Get out. Now. Leave.

Made from 'ordinary' leather? THAT put a smile on my dial.

Where can you buy leather shoes nowadays that don't cost a fortune?

Most of the shoes in the shops are made of synthetic material that split and run cracks across the ball of the foot long before having a chance to wear out.

The soles are not made of leather for durability, and not even made of hard-wearing rubber. It's all synthetic polymers designed for throwing away rather than repair.

Finally, after much comparison and window-shopping, my brand-new fridge arrives tomorrow.

It's going to be great to be able to shop in bulk and actually have somewhere to keep it. My
local corner butcher-shop does awesome bulk meat-packs, but I've not had the freezer-space
to take advantage until now.

My current fridge, though old, is still working well, it's simply too small (a bit bigger than a bar
or caravan fridge, but not by much).

The new one will probably be cheaper to run, as well.

Yep, I'm smiling.

I saw a bloke that worked for me many years ago and that was good because I thought he had died.
It was great to see him and he was happy with his life.

That made me smile.

Just wait until they're on special I suppose - these ones only cost me $120.

Buying cheap shoes is false economy anyway.  They'll only last for a fraction of the time that a more expensive pair would.

one of our drivers doesn't like anyone moving his cleaning gear.. he has five different bottles all lined up in their right place...

when the casuals use his bottles of cleaners instead of their own he goes banana's...

so if he's ticking me off, when he's away for the day, I grab one of his bottles and put it in the casuals pile of bottles...  ;)

today he was away... and although he's been ok I decided to grab one of his cleaner bottles and shift it to the casual cleaning gear end anyways.. that gave me a smile..  :)

They did.

But they turned up a day early.

Apparently the owner ended up only having that day free and available.

Didn't matter, my place will pass inspection any time.

His reason for wanting to inspect was that some units are experiencing breakage of the floor tiles.

Mine is OK.

What makes me smile every day is when the cat I rescued from abusive owners hops up onto the table and repeatedly bumps his head against my head and then wipes his saliva all over my face to tell me that my ass belongs to HIM.  ;D

I've never had a better cat in 23 years. He is the only cat in 23 years that has kept stray males from biting my other cats that then cost a motsa at the vets for treatment of abscesses.

As I said, it was all good. My place will easily stand a snap-inspection, and the
reason given for the change of date was fair enough.

I was a bit worried about the owner seeing how many bicycles I have here, but
that was cool. The agent does know about them. Currently, there are approx.
14 of them (no, they're not all mine, several belong to the Men's Shed).

This one ↓↓ lives indoors... it's my favourite, and is worth a few dollars. It's
completely original in every way, except the saddle.

OCD is the guy obsessive about Lining up his cleaning Bottles.

not the guy messing with him when irritated by him

not surprising you are mixed up Frances, considering you don't even know what a Tram Conductor's job is

Someone who is OCD can become irritated and snap back at people if someone interferes with the order they put things in or the way in which they do things.  Anyone who deliberately does that to a person with OCD is just a dickhead.

And I don't know why you keep talking about tram conductors when I was talking about ticket inspectors.  They are not the same thing.  Have you ever used a bus or a tram, or do you just have comprehension problems?

Today I was on my daily 40 minute cardiac health walk when I came upon a good swivel-type computer chair on castors that had a for FREE notice stuck to it.

When I got home I hopped onto my electric bike and powered over to where the chair was sitting on the nature strip.

Put it on the pillion and strapped it down.

Halfway back the damn thing slipped halfway off and I was buggered. I couldn't get it back on because of the camber of the road, and my bike stand is wobbly.

Just when I was about to give up and leave the chair there for someone else, who should come along but a Pacific Islander couple driving a delivery van.

They smiled ~ I smiled ~ and the rest is history.

The fellow got out of his van ~ loaded the chair into the back, and told me to lead the way home.

He even carried it all the way up the driveway for me...

I've had a few uncomplimentary things to say about Pacific Islanders in the Sydney area due to news reports which feature them in the Top Five Ethnic Crime profiles ~ but when they're good ~ they're VERY good.

Second smiley story of the day:

I received a small carton this morning with cat flea and worm treatments ~ (pawsforlife.com.au).

When I emptied the small cardboard box, Gizmo my male cat tried to jam himself into the box. Around and around he went, settling himself lower and lower, but still leaving bits and pieces hanging outside the box.

So up he would get again for another try ... around and around ... only after 10 minutes did he give it up as 'undoable'. Mission Impossible.

Funny you should mention that, Herb.

I lived in Minto (yes, I know) in the mid-1990s, and there was an Islander family living a few doors up from us. Now, this fellow worked as a taxi driver, and whenever we called or hailed a cab, if it was him driving, he would turn the meter off and refuse to accept any money. Down to the Mall or into Parra or wherever, didn't matter. We had a toddler and a newborn at the time and funds were tight even tho I was working, so that was a great bonus to our budget.

They eventually moved as they'd bought their own home, so before they left I went up to his place with a 'thank you' card and a carton of VB for him in appreciation. He was visibly touched by this, and said he'd have done the same for any neighbour, and that's what being neighbours was all about.

I do realise that there are Islanders who are, how shall I say, not so nice. but when they hit the news and everyone's on he 'Islanders = bad' bandwagon, I often think of that neighbour.

I've always found Islanders to be great, very willing to offer a helping hand if they see you need one  ... the only time (in my experience) they can be a problem is when the've had too much to drink ... then again, a lot of Aussies are a problem when they've had too much to drink

Good story, Kat.

I was in my mid-50's and doing casual work all over Sydney at a time when Pacific Islander street thuggery was particularly bad. The muggings were always accompanied by extreme violence just for the hell of it.

I finished some factory work at 11.30pm in a Sydney Industrial estate on a Sunday night, and walked for about 15 minutes to get to the nearest railway station. It was a little side-track railway station that was closed and deserted, and so I kept my eye on the road to catch a taxi.

That whole area seemed to be utterly deserted. No people ~ no cars ... and I began to sweat: what if I get spotted by a car-load of PCs?

About 20 minutes later, lo and behold! a taxi came cruising along the street like an answer to a prayer. And yes ~ it was a huge Pacific Islander. I got in and off we went.

And then my nightmare returned ... not far up the road at another deserted railway station three Pacific Islander youths began hailing my taxi because they too had found themselves stuck without any railway transport.

The driver turned to me and asked if I'd mind him giving 'the boys' a lift to the nearest main-track station where the trains were still running ~ where he was taking me.

By this time my mouth was dry and I was again sweating heavily, and a small tic had begun to pulse in my left eye in time to the beat of a bad twitch that had developed in my right cheek. "Sure!" I said, trying to sound upbeat and really pleased we could take on these three as passengers ...  :-/

Soon, all five of us were going up these darkened and deserted streets in the small hours of this Monday morning, and all the time I was hoping this wasn't a setup that had become a routine little money-earner for these four PCs ~ with these three strapping great lads now sitting speechless behind me where the back of my head was exposed to them like a ripe pumpkin waiting for the impact of a heavy iron bar ...

(to be continued ... )  :)

It was mainly because I had just had enough of the place and didn't like the direction it was heading in.  We can get by quite comfortably on one income rather than two, and the idea of having dinner ready at a reasonable hour (which hasn't been the case lately, as I have been working until after 7pm most days) and having the weekend to do what we want to do rather than cleaning, does rather appeal.

Maybe it will be a permanent arrangement - I haven't decided yet.....

I'm still there until 10 January, but with all the public holidays and with the place shutting down between Christmas and New Year, it means I only have just over a week left.....

That sounds like a New Year's resolution to me: Giving yourself more personal time with hubby, home, etc.

My niece popped by to see me yesterday. She's 39. I told her I had read that anyone 40-and-under will be trapped in the '70-retirement age'. That definitely didn't get a smile out of her. She thinks it's cruel that many in her age-bracket will be forced to work right up until the qualifying age for the pension.

Personally, I don't think the 'Age 70' retirement age is going to work in practice. It just won't happen. Private employers will simply go for the younger ones for all the common sense reasons.

I was taken out for dinner tonight - it was at the Rockpool Bar and Grill in the City.  For starters I had Fried Calamari with Romesco and for mains, Wood Fire Grilled House Made Pork Sausages and Cotechino with Braised Lentils, Fennel, Kale and Roast Apples with a side plate of Sautéed Mixed Mushrooms.  We had a bottle of Montrose ‘Omaggio’ 2006 Barbera with our meal.  I didn't feel like having a dessert after all that, so I just finished off with an espresso.

Well, for the last six months or so, I've been putting-up
with a smart-phone on its last legs.

The screen was cracked in two places, and there was no
longer any audio thru the headphones.

I've not had the spare cash available, and it still worked
fine as a phone, but I was on a job yesterday, and really
missed the radio/mp3 player.

So I went and bought a Nokia Lumia 520 this morning.

Windows on a phone is... well, different. But I'm getting
used to it, and have done a bit of customising, and I think
we'll get along just fine.

It looks like pretty good value for money at $150, and it
seems to perform quite well.

I'm smiling!!

This made me smile... another addition to my collection of vintage Apollo bicycles.

This is an early one, sadly neglected but mostly still original and can be ridden.

Needs a lot of work to bring it back to scratch, but will be worth the work involved.

Do those mud-guards actually work ~ or are they just a design feature?

And can you explain why bicycle seats are made to be hard, uncomfortable, ball-crushing, sadistic torture-equipment?

What got me smiling not long ago was the sound of the cat snoring in the darkness. Apart from the rain pitter-pattering on the window and the odd mouse moving in the wall cavity every so often it's the only sound I can here. It is 4am.

Mine is gel-filled, and is like an armchair to sit on (well OK, not that comfy). The one on this bike at present actually has a 'sprung' seat-post, so isn't bad. But it doesn't come with the bike.

I was at my local bicycle shop a few months ago asking for a comfortable seat for my battery-driven bike.

Bad mistake.

I shouldn't have mentioned it was for a battery-driven bicycle. I committed a heresy. What I said was blasphemy. The buzz in the shop suddenly stopped and all heads turned towards me. In the horrified silence somebody started coughing nervously (it might have been me).

I felt my scrotum tighten defensively, and noticed somebody in tight screaming-pink Lycra pants and a massive cod-piece had moved to block my exit.

Sweating profusely, I gradually edged my way towards the door, and ...

(to be continued ... )  8-)

Knocking-off this arvo...

Been up ladders with the old paint-pot & brushes since 7.30.

For the last hour, the sun was on the job, nearly went 'snow-blind'
from the glare (no, I didn't have any sunnies with me).

It was the top coat (gloss) which didn't help...  >:(

Job is starting to look good though (it's an old motel which is
undergoing renovation).

And once the exterior's finished, I have 18 rooms, a bistro
and the manager's flat to paint!!!!!

This is only one block (9 units).

Gizmo finally fought back.  ;D

Sooty, my big male cat has never beaten up Gizmo my other male feline, and that might be because the moment Sooty looks at him for more than two seconds ~ he flops onto his side and plays dead.

This morning I was in my neighbour's backyard hanging up her laundry ~ and as always, all three cats followed me there and sat around chewing the grass.

But then Sooty pounced on Gizmo ~ and what a surprise! Gizmo sprang into action like a Mixed Martial Arts champion on steroids. Gizmo's fighting skills totally out-paced and out-skilled Sooty's.

And how so? Because since Gizmo was 6 weeks old he's been practicing his fighting skills with his sister Muffin ... but not so Sooty. And that's what made the difference, even though Sooty is twice the size of Gizmo.

As Sooty slinked away, the look of utter shock on Sooty's face was priceless.

The Sch-Twinns... The roadie (Schwinn Prelude) and the MTB (Schwinn Ranger 3.0).

These are my only 'moderns' (apart from a cheapie dual-shock MTB with dual disc
brakes, nice to ride, but as heavy as the Harbour Bridge), all the rest are between
15 and 70 years old.  :)

I'm currently saving to buy (new, for cash) a 2014 Apollo roadie, at between $1500 and $2000.

:)

anyone who knows me would think that very odd as I hate druggo's...

but this has been about justice for me...

when I see people here being killed here in Australia every weekend by out of control drunks with "coward" punches etc only to see them set free, or be it, set free an a few short years in soft jail conditions...

if you were to compare marijuana with, say, alcohol...

so whether she was/is guilty or not is not the point...

say she is...

well then justice has been served.. let her out.. NOW!!  >:(

Other than being over the duty free limit a slab of beer is not illegal - marijuana is and it is very well publicised - including the very strict laws.

You may think the laws concerning marijuana to be too strict and be entitled to the opinion - but that is neither a case for defence nor for leniency.

In Indonesia, Prosecutors, Judges and Barristers work within the laws of the land (as in Australia).

There has been humanity - she has previously has had sentenced reduced and is now granted parole.

If it was my son or daughter I would do everything possible WITHIN THE LAW to get them home as soon as possible.

Would I hate them for eternity?   I doubt I would HATE them for a moment.

Arsene Wenger takes a tumble! Long-serving Arsenal boss is the butt of jokes after being pictured slipping over at a train station

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger lost his cool when he fell flat on his face after seeing his title-chasing side thrashed 5-1 by Liverpool yesterday. The Frenchman slipped on his way into Liverpool Lime Street Station after the loss as he lugged suitcases. Wenger, 64, grimaced in pain and rubbed his behind as two British Transport Police officers helped him up. A club spokesman said: 'He's fine.'

Releasing a dog of unknown temperament, unknown condition of health, unattended and no lease sounds irresponsible to me.

A call to the RSPCA may have been a kinder action.

A call to the RSPCA may have been a kinder action.

I used to pet the dog through the fence. Sad, sad creature it was, owned by a macho Neanderthal who had put up a big hand-written notice saying 'Beware of the Dog'.

The dog looked horse-whipped. It wasn't unhealthy in appearance, but very cowered.

Someone actually tore a gap in the fence to let the poor creature out ~ or took it away for himself. I hope so.

There's little hope that our courts will punish people who are cruel to their pets. Twice in recent weeks I've read the court ban people found guilty of mistreatment of their dog, from acquiring another dog for two years instead of for life.

This is what happens when you get 'liberal-progressives' in positions of power. Mustn't be seen to be 'punitive'. That's fascist, red-neck, and morally regressive.

Forgiveness, tolerance, paternalism ~ and to hell with the fate of the next dog.

    RACISM?

Everyone seems to be in such a hurry to scream 'racism' these days.

A customer asked, "In what aisle could I find the Irish sausages?"

The assistant asks, "Are you Irish?"

The guy, clearly offended, says, "Yes I am, but let me ask you something...

If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian?

Or if I had asked for German Bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German?

Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog would you ask me if I was Jewish?

Or if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?

Or if I asked for Polish sausage, would you ask if I was Polish?"

The assistant says, "No, I probably wouldn't."

The guy says, "Well then, just because I asked for Irish sausage, why
did you ask me if I'm Irish?"

The assistant replied, "Because you're at Bunnings."

Hey I'm Irish and I find that hilarious, which is probably why I've been asked time and time again by complete strangers if I'm Irish, and have rarely observed any similar openness to other ethnicities; because everyone knows how tolerant and what a sense of humour the Irish have.  ;)

This news  :)

Vietnamese student bashed within an inch of his life, then getting deported mid recovery.

Minh's visa has been reinstated and he'll be returning to Australia on Friday. It's all thanks to you and 89,000 others who signed the petition. Thank you so much.

When Minh's visa was cancelled, mid-recovery from being bashed by neo-nazis and with a year left to finish his degree – I was devastated for him. I didn't know if Minh would ever be able to return. They gave him a 3-year ban.

But that's all changed now. I started this petition on change.org out of desperation, and thousands of you helped. 89,000 of you. It's incredible. And with coverage in The Age, ABC's 7.30, Herald Sun, – Scott Morrison was forced to respond on national TV.

That's when it all turned around. Consular officials started helping Minh, we got pro-bono legal help from migration lawyer David Bongiorno – and late on Friday evening we got word that his visa has been re-instated.

A guy is looking for a place to sit in a crowded university library.
He asked a girl: "Do you mind if I sit beside you?"
The girl replied in a loud voice:
"I DON'T WANT TO SPEND THE NIGHT WITH YOU!"
All the students in the library started staring at the guy; he was truly
embarrassed and moved to another table.
After a couple of minutes, the girl walked quietly to the guy's table and
said with a laugh:
"I study psychology, and I know what a man is thinking. I guess you felt
embarrassed, right?"
The guy then responded in a loud voice:
"$500 FOR ONE NIGHT? . . . THAT'S TOO MUCH!"
All the people in the library looked at the girl in shock.
The guy whispered to her:"I study law, and I know how to screw people."

Evidently, Pig has a big following in the Campbelltown (NSW) area.

MACARTHUR

Tim’s Garden Centre’s popular ‘pig’ survives near-death experience of car crash
AMANDA PARTRIDGE MACARTHUR CHRONICLE CAMPBELLTOWN FEBRUARY 18, 2014 10:05AM

HE may be made of ceramic, but there is no doubting the community’s concern for Tim’s Garden Centre’s Pig and his welfare.

The popular, pink Pig sits proudly on his milk crate out the front of Tim’s Garden Centre in Campbelltown each day.

But on Saturday, the ceramic Pig was left traumatised after a near-death experience, when he was narrowly missed by a rolling car.

“He’s been traumatised. He has got this glazed look in his eyes,” Tim’s Garden Centre owner Tim Pickles said.

Mr Pickles said Pig’s near death experience occurred around lunchtime on Saturday and already thousands of community members have shown their concern.

“We’ve got 22,000 hits on Facebook about it,” he said.

“That’s how interested people are in the welfare of Pig.”

“They reckon we should get him a crash helmet, or a bright orange singlet.”

Mr Pickles said two cars were involved in a crash in Moore Oxley Bypass near Queen St on Saturday morning.

“When they got out of the car to talk about it, they forgot to put their handbrake on and started rolling backwards, just missing Pig, hitting into our barricade,” he said.

“The barricade will have to be replaced.

“It’s a miracle it didn’t hit another car or any of our customers.”

Got stuck the other day, I only had one camera with me (my 14MP Sanyo) and so had a choice of 14MP pics or 720p video. But I wanted both. Normally I'd have my pocket Nikon as well, and could get 8MP pics or fairly average 640x480 video. So, I spotted a basic camcorder (720p) at K-mart today for $20. Went away, researched, went back to buy. Ended up paying the extra $19 for a 1080p one which also has a 5MP still camera. Grabbed an 8gb SD card at the same time. So now I can use the Sanyo for quality stills, and the 1080p camcorder on the tripod for some decent videos with sound. I don't have the usage needs to justify spending big bikkies on a cam-corder, so I'm smilin'.

He should quit his pretence at being 'an important politician' and move to stand-up comedy

because people have been laughing at him all the way through

Quote:
I don't 'hate' him. Hate is way too personal a term. I don't personally know him

However, I do detest him

It's my personal opinion that Rudd is mentally unstable

The way he speaks, for one: that 'Schoolkid reading a book to the class' voice he uses. It's not normal. It's not manly. It's affected. He sounds like a precocious ten-year old who's in love with himself

Then there are the Transvestite-type asides which he injects into his Schoolkid-Reading-a-Book style monologues about himself -- when he inserts what he appears to believe is Bruce Willis type 'menace' .... as in his lowered voice as he hissed, 'It's not going to happen' --- accompanied by a glare like a bitter old auntie who's cake got second-prize at the fete

* All the posturing
* the monologues about himself -- always about him
* the Bates Motel type voices and facial tics
* the self-pity -- invariably when he's caused the problem himself
* the blaming of others - when he's to blame
* the attempts to sound like fifty different people simultaneously
* the venom
* the anger
* the weirdness
* the petulance
* the temper tantrums, like a spoiled brat
* his utter self-absorption to the exclusion of everyone, everything else
* his self-promotion - which isn't matched by reality
* his vengefulness
* his spitefulness
* his unfettered, massive, beyond belief size ego
* his conceit
* his impotence
* his self-serving disloyalty

Just the sight -- let alone the sound -- of Rudd blathering on endlessly about himself ... is enough to cause me to switch off the tv

He seems to believe he is a combination of Churchill, Menzies, JFK, Caesar, Einstein, John Wayne and an entire battalion of Rhodes Scholars, plus

He seems to believe it his destiny to be the ultimate, entire-world's Grand Statesman

To me, Rudd is an impotent, gender-confused little twat who spent (and spends) WAY too much time with himself, envisioning himself as an acknowledged mental and political Giant. In other words, it's my belief he's delusional -- is extremely fantasy-prone -- is literally IN LOVE WITH HIMSELF. To the point I suspect he probably kisses his own reflection in mirrors and hogs the bathroom in order to do so constantly

I think he's mad as a hatter and I'm glad he's been shot down, hopefully for good and in time for an army of psychiatrists to put him in a padded cell for the duration

So I don't know why others hate him

but above are my opinions of him

I think he's nuts -- flat out nuts

Got bored, so decided to clean and re-decorate my fish-tank.

I was given a tank, three goldfish and a pump/filter etc as the Men's Shed no longer
wanted them. Previously they had been in the meeting-room. Rather than set that
tank up I simply put the fish in with my existing pair and left it at that.

But tonight I washed and sieved the 'new' gravel to get the half of it that was sand
out, cleaned tank, filter, plants, rocks etc, got rid of the tacky plastic 'sea-scape' that
was stuck to the back of the tank, and then put it all back together again.

The 'new' tank will be set up later with a selection of small cichlids and a couple of
catfish, but here's a pic of my current tank, freshly cleaned and in the process of
'settling in'.

Not much of a challenge compared to the 4'and 6' tanks full of cichlids that I had in
the 1990s, but I do reckon a clean, freshly set up fish-tank always looks good.

Went to the 'Gold of the Incas' exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Canberra.

Well worth a look if you're in the area, but be warned, take your money with you
as nothing is cheap in the stores or the cafes at the Gallery.

If he's that addicted to alcohol you might advise him to check in at his local methadone clinic for a chat.

Seriously.

Methadone is also prescribed for people suffering from terminal alcoholism ~ it's not just a substitute for street drugs.

He could also see his GP about treatment with naltrexone.

I broke the alcohol addiction after 12 years of heavy drinking of mainly neat vodka straight from the bottle. Been clean for 24 years now. Tell him there IS a life to be had without alcohol.

I've never known a heavy drinker/alcoholic to stop drinking because of someone's advice, but nowadays there are 'replacement' substances that can be less harmful than alcohol.

Good luck.

The computer swallowed Grandma,
Yes, honestly it’s true!
She pressed 'control and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, asked Mr. Google
My searches to refine
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'

So, if inside your 'Inbox,'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy, Scan' and 'Paste' her,
And send her back to me.

Good quote, Bogey...  :)

Anyway, this got a smile, not only from me, but from my neighbour.

She came over on Friday evening to tell me that a bird had crashed into her sliding glass
patio door and knocked itself silly, and wanting to know if I knew anything about birds.

I checked it over, and although it was definitely concussed, was not seriously hurt, no
broken wings, legs etc, and no bleeding. So I suggested that I put it in an empty bird
cage I have, and monitor it for 24 hours to see if it would recover.

Got home from work yesterday afternoon, and it was much better, alert and drinking
so I determined to release it today. But a while later, it heard some other birds outside
and became quite excited and animated. Figuring they were its flock, I took it from the
cage, walked to the door, and opened my hands.

Off it flew, straight to the other birds, then they all flew off together.

Went and told my neighbour and she was very happy and relieved that it was fine and
had been released back to the wild as she was terrified it would become dinner for one
of the neighbourhood cats.

A man sees a sign outside a house - 'Talking Dog For Sale.' He rings the bell, the owner appears and tells him the dog can be viewed in the back garden.

The man sees a very nice looking Labrador Retriever sitting there.
"Do you really talk?" he asks the dog.

"Yes," the Labrador replies.

After recovering from the shock of hearing the dog talk, the man asks, "So, tell me your story."

The Labrador looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I was sold to the SAS.  In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one imagined that a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years".

"But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at Heathrow Airport to do some undercover security work, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.  I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded several medals".

"Then I got married, had a few puppies, and now I've just retired."

The man is amazed.  He goes back into the house and asks the owner how much he wants for the dog.

"Ten bucks," the owner says.

"$10! But your dog is absolutely amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheaply?"

"Because he's a lying bastard, he's never been out of the garden."

Got news that my casual job is on hold due to cash-flow problems.

TWO COWS ~{Matthias Varga}

SOCIALISM
You have 2 cows.
You give one to your neighbour

COMMUNISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and gives you some milk

FASCISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and sells you some milk

NAZISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both and shoots you

BUREAUCRATISM
You have 2 cows.
The State takes both, shoots one, milks the other, and then
throws the milk away

TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy
grows.
You sell them and retire on the income

ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND (VENTURE) CAPITALISM
You have two cows.
You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by
your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption
for five cows.
The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company.
The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. You sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States , leaving you with nine cows. No balance sheet provided with the release.
The public then buys your bull.

SURREALISM
You have two giraffes.
The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

AN AMERICAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You sell one, and force the other to
produce the milk of four cows.
Later, you hire a consultant to analyse why
the cow has dropped dead.

A GREEK CORPORATION
You have two cows. You borrow lots of euros to build barns, milking sheds, hay stores, feed sheds,
dairies, cold stores, abattoir, cheese unit and packing sheds.
You still only have two cows.

A FRENCH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You go on strike, organise a riot, and block the roads, because you want three
cows.

A JAPANESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You redesign them so they are one-tenth the size of an ordinary cow and produce
twenty times the milk.
You then create a clever cow cartoon image called a Cowkimona and
market it worldwide.

AN ITALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows,
but you don't know where they are.
You decide to have lunch.

A SWISS CORPORATION
You have 5000 cows. None of them belong to you.
You charge the owners for storing them.

A CHINESE CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You have 300 people milking them.
You claim that you have full employment, and high bovine productivity.
You arrest the newsman who reported the real situation.

AN INDIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
You worship them.

A BRITISH CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Both are mad.

AN IRAQI CORPORATION
Everyone thinks you have lots of cows.
You tell them that you have none.
No-one believes you, so they bomb the ** out of you and invade your country.
You still have no cows, but at least you are now a Democracy.

AN AUSTRALIAN CORPORATION
You have two cows.
Business seems pretty good.
You close the office and go for a few beers to celebrate.

A NEW ZEALAND CORPORATION
You have two cows.
The one on the left looks very attractive

This.

Did a few hours (unpaid) work yesterday & this morning, helping a mate pull the old
carpet out of his mother's lounge & dining rooms, and lift the tiles in the entry foyer.

He bought a new barbie the other day, so we tried it out at lunch time...

Spicy BBQ ribs. Bloody lovely. They'd been marinating since Friday, and literally
melted in the mouth after 2 hours on here under the hood.

Washed it down with a couple of ice-cold bottles of Chang (Thai beer).

FOUR LITTLE BOYS were concerned because they couldn't get anyone to play with them.

They decided it was because they had not been baptized and didn't go to Sunday school.
So they went to the nearest church. But, only the janitor was there.

One little boy said, "we need to be baptized because no one will come out and play with us.

Will you baptize us?"

"Sure," said the janitor.

He took them into the bathroom and dunked their little heads in the toilet bowl, one at a time.

Then he said, "You are now baptized!"

When they got outside, one of them asked, "'what religion do you think we are?"

The oldest one said, "We're not Kathlick, because they pour the water on you."

"We're not Babtis, because they dunk all of you in the water," said the second.

"We're not Methdiss, because they just sprinkle water on you," added the third.

The littlest one said, "didn't you smell that water?"

They all joined in asking, 'Yeah! What do you think that means?'

"I think it means we're......Pissbitarian!"

Spotted this at our local swap-meet yesterday.

A 'runner', and, with new tyres, rideable according to the seller.

It's a Scott 'Cyc-Auto' made in the UK in 1938.

It had just sold, for $3,000.

Would have looked lovely in my collection... :-)

Rarity value, mate.

They're not that common out here, still a few in the UK though.

Here's what a 'big' Scott looks like. It's a 500cc water-cooled two-stroke twin
built in 1933. They were still in production into the early 1980s.

The company were the first to fit a kickstarter, and a foot-change gearbox.

Had a notification about six weeks ago that the agent who manages my unitcomplex wished to do a routine inspection
on the 14th of this month.

Well, my place is never dirty or damaged so I wasn't too worried. But I like to create and maintain a good impression
so I went through the place from end to end and by the time I was finished the place was literally spotless.

Suffice to say, they didn't show. But another letter arrived, re-scheduling for yesterday.

So I got a few other things done as well, like prepping the gardens for planting, cleaning-out the shed etc.

Anyway, they arrived yesterday morning, took one quick look in the front door, ticked the boxes and said' We know
your place is always good. Any problems'. There weren't, and so that was that. I seriously could almost have gotten
away with doing nothing at all.

They congratulated me on the condition in which I keep the place, then we got into a discussion about installing a few
new garden beds and a communal BBQ for the use of the tenants.

It's good to have a decent landlord/agent and good neighbours...  :) :) :) ;) ;)

That would be my worst type of agent ... LAZY

no matter how good a tenant keeps the property, the agent has a contractual obligation with the owner of the property to inspect the property. They should have had a quick walk through regardless of how you usually keep it.

That would be my worst type of agent ... LAZY

no matter how good a tenant keeps the property, the agent has a contractual obligation with the owner of the property to inspect the property. They should have had a quick walk through regardless of how you usually keep it.

They normally do, and I was prepared for them to, but after nearly five years without any issues... and I
came here with a good record and refs from my previous tenancies.

This isn't a 'houso' block where everything gets trashed on a regular basis, and isn't full of dropkicks, drunks

It's their problem, between the agent and the owner (who, BTW, has also been, inspected and
approved, about 12 months ago), not mine.

I'd still have passed, no matter how rigorous the inspection may have been. And they know that.

Also, as I said, this is not a run-down public-housing dive populated by no-hopers and idiots. So
if you happen to be worried that any taxpayer money is at risk, rest easy. It isn't.

erotic sex:

Husband: Sukitaki.
Wife replies: Kowanini!

Husband says: Toka a anji rodi roumi yakoo!

Wife on her knees literally begging: Mimi nakoundinda tinkouji!

Husband replies angrily: Na miaou kina tim kouji!

I can't believe you just sat and tried to read this.
As if you understand Japanese!

Unbelievable!

From my inbox......
--------------------
It was April, and the Aboriginals in a remote part of Central Australia asked their new elder if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild.

Since he was an elder in a modern community he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the tribe should collect firewood to be prepared.

But being a practical leader, after several days he had an idea. He walked out to the telephone booth on the highway, called the Bureau of Meteorology and asked, ‘Is the coming winter in this area going to be cold?’

The meteorologist responded, ‘It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold.’

So the elder went back to his people and told them to collect even more wood in order to be prepared.

A week later he called the Bureau of Meteorology again...

‘Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?’

The meteorologist again replied, ‘Yes, it’s going to be a very cold winter.’

The elder again went back to his community and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find.

Two weeks later the elder called the Bureau again.

‘Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?’ he asked.

‘Absolutely,’ the man replied. ‘It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever.’

‘How can you be so sure?’ the elder asked.

The weatherman replied, ‘Our satellites have reported that the Aboriginals in the North are collecting firewood like crazy, and that’s always a sure sign.’

What Got a Smile out of You, Today???

As a matter of ritual, I always sing ( i use the term loosly) Brahams Lullaby to whichever of the kids I'm putting to bed  to get them ready for sleep, (we alternate kids each night)

I was just putting the 4 yr old to bed, as I started singing lullaby, the 2 yr old walks in, climbs up into the 4 yr olds bed and sqeezes in between the middle of us, lays down and then proceeds to sing along at the top of his voice

it's the first time I've heard him sing along ....  makes daddy proud  [smiley=engel017.gif] [smiley=engel017.gif] [smiley=engel017.gif]

Bloke gets up on stage out Back o' Bourke, takes a young crocodile out of of a hessian bag, zips down his fly and hangs the croc on his p*ick by its teeth, and proceeds to swing it about.

After a while he takes a stick and belts the croc about the head until it lets go, and holds the croc up to the crowd...

"Right!  Anyone else want to have a go at that?"

This is an 'Abos' joke from the same guy, so sensitive ears just close up now:-

After an Alice Springs school outing the teacher gets up says:-

"All right.  Who can tell me what animals they saw and what sound they make?"

Sweet little Jenny, class primp, puts her hand up,

"There was a horsie, and it made this sound... Neiiiggghhh!"

Little Johnnie the rich kid, puts his hand up,

"There was a cow like the thousands my father owns, and is went, "Mooooo".

Little Jackie, the Aboriginal kid, sits quietly, until teacher asks him to be involved,

"OK... I saw a pig there, Miss, and the sound they make is ... "You get outta that car right  NOW, you Black bastard or I'll brain ya!"

You would have to have been there at the time, but...this actually happened this morning in the Cab.

Pick up a regular customer.  Once was obviously quite the looker, and still not half bad, but the ravages of too much booze is beginning to take its toll.  She is always a sober, decent passenger, but the stuff in the boot always includes some cartons of beer.

Arrive at destination.  I hit the stop button on the meter.

'$10.50 thanks.'

She goes for the purse and finds over a $50 note, hands that to me, and then tries to find some coin adding to 50 cents....and says:

"All my change is inside on my bed."

'Aussie' says nothing.....allows for a very pregnant, silent pause......then slowly looks over at her.....raises the judicial eyebrow......and the implication of what she blurted out totally innocently slowly dawns on her.

After over two years of intermittently lousy to non-existent TV reception, which had been
'looked-at' by a serviceman but not fixed satisfactorily, and after having spoken to several
neighbours and friends, some of whom had issues and some of whom did not, I concluded
that a nearby stand of 5-metre conifers was probably attenuating my signal (cos something
certainly was) and decided that an antenna swap to a new and better (more gain) antenna
which I had to hand, was the way to go.

So, after borrowing a ladder, I got up on the roof yesterday afternoon to effect the antenna
swap. Before doing so, I decided to check the 'old' (5 years) antenna to see if it was actually
faulty in any way. Lo and behold... where the coaxial cable screws onto the antenna, there
is a little sealed box. Inside this box is a small printed-circuit, with two wires leading to the
co-ax socket, and the PCB itself is held to the antenna itself by two small nuts and washers.

Or rather, it is supposed to be. Mine wasn't. Not even close. Flopping and flapping around all
over the place, the nuts weren't even finger-tight. Not a hope in hell of a decent, continuous
electrical contact.

So, I cleaned the crud off the contacts and tightened both nuts, then arranged the co-ax etc
so as not to put any strain on them in the future. Re-positioned the antenna slightly so the
trees were no longer in the line-of-sight, pointed it actually at the repeater tower instead of
off into the wild-blue where it had been pointing (set by the 'expert' who had attended at the
request of the landlord to replace a dead booster and address reception issues approx. 2½
years ago) and now have the best reception I've had since moving here, especially on the
ABC and SBS and their sub-channels, which were always the worst reception-wise (see pic).

Two neighbours in the complex share the same antenna, and both of them are very pleased
with the fact that they can now get all channels again, and I'm stoked that I've finally been
able to actually watch an episode of Dr Who without having to download it.

It's still not perfect, so the hi-gain Yagi may still end up being installed yet.  ;)

Shame I'm not a c%$t, or I'd send the bloody landlord a bill for the $100 I'd normally charge
for doing a similar job...  ;)

Another 'Fall Off My Chair Moment', this morning, when I read a quote from Gough Whitlam.

When Sir Winton Turnbull [who represented a large rural seat] was raving and ranting on the adjournment and shouted: "I am a Country member".

I interjected "I remember".

He could not understand why, for the first time in all the years he had been speaking in the House, there was instant and loud applause from both sides.

Title: Late Night Phone Call To The Vet
Post by Redneck on Oct 22nd, 2014 at 5:29pm
A dog lover, whose dog was a female and 'in heat', agreed to look after her neighbor's male dog while the neighbors were on vacation.

She had a large house and believed that she could keep the two dogs apart. However, as she was drifting off to sleep she heard awful howling and moaning sounds, rushed downstairs and found the dogs locked together, in obvious pain and unable to disengage, as so frequently happens when dogs mate.

Unable to separate them, and perplexed as to what to do next, although it was late, she called the vet, who answered in a very grumpy voice.

After she explained the problem to him, the vet said,

"Hang up the phone and place it down alongside the dogs. I will then call you back and the noise of the ringing will make the male lose his erection and he will be able to withdraw."

"Do you think that will work?" she asked.

"It just worked on me," he replied.

Cracked up laughing after I read the following:

Photographer Alex Cherney said he was stunned to discover Greek tourism authorities had swiped a 15-second clip of his time-lapse video of the Twelve Apostles under the stars and pretended it was the Greek coastline.

He said when he contacted them they tried to defend the move by suggesting that stars and constellations above Australia carry Greek names and the mythology of all skies was Greek.

Yesterday, members of the 501st Midwest Garrison visited the pediatric oncology ward at the Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. They handed out toys and coloring books to a lot of brave kids. During their visit in the community center, one little girl had to go back to her room for part of her treatment, and she asked if a stormtrooper could come with her. She took his hand and led him down the hall, and he stayed at her side the whole time she was away. ‪#‎501st‬ ‪#‎StarWars‬ TK-41551 ‪#‎BadGuysDoingGood

It was a couple of days ago but was putting up the christmas tree .... the 'wow' and the look on the 2.5yr olds face when the lights lit up, and the 5 yr old started making up his own version of christmas carols with 'mummy' 'daddy' and his brothers names interspersed in them .....

reminds us why we spend hours looking for parking and pissed off at the local shopping centres, at this time of year
