I know that an ape is a primate but also the word is applied in a derogatory sense to uncivil behaviour.

To my knowledge it has never been applied in a racial sense.

It was a 13 year old Vic footy supporter and they say much worse and none of it is meant to be racist.
face it she is even too young to realise it had anymore connotations than just being insulting to a player on the opposition who with all that facial hair did actually look a bit like an ape FFS.
