Title: Coalition soars ahead in Nielsen poll, 52-48.
Post by matty on Feb 16th, 2014 at 9:30pm
The Coalition has soared ahead in the latest Nielsen poll. The Coalition is up three points to 44%, Labor down four to 33%, and the Greens are up one to 12%. Bill Shorten's good approval figure has vanished, down 11 points on approval to 40%, and up 10 points on dissaproval to 40%, making his satisfaction to dissatisfaction rating neutral, with 20% uncommitted. Tony Abbott's approval rating is down two to to 45%, and his disapproval up one to 47%, leaving his satisfaction to dissatisfaction rating negative, albeit statistically insignificant, so more or less neutral, with 12% uncommitted.

I can't find any PPM ratings, but the important thing is that the coalition leads 52-48 on the 2pp. Australians are waking up after a brief lull, and realising that the Coalition is making the right decision, and is the best equipped party to run our country.  :)

Aussies are also getting over their hangover (from celebrating Abbott becoming PM and ending 6 years of Labor pain) and remembering why they gave Labor a good ass-whuppin' last September...

This can't be true, most likely labor support has just been blown by the trade winds into the deep ocean and it will re emerge in the not too distant future if a carbon tax is implemented.  :D

Excuse me, when has Matty ever sprouted crap on this site?

He was the first to infiltrate the Greens and uncover the fact that they’re watermelons. He deserves a lot of credit for this, you know.

If it wasn’t for Matty, the Ryde Greens might even be in power. Think about that.

Geez, matty, after being MIA for most of the past two months with all the bad polling for the government, you're all over this rogue poll like a five-dollar hooker.

Only 23% of voters oppose the corruption Royal Commission into the unions!!! Most likely, that 23% minority consists solely of hardcore militant unionists with much to lose in the Royal Commission and the most rusted-on Labor supporters.  :)

what's he hiding?

it was said around 12 months back, if fact, it was an argument to go back with Rudd as leader, when Labor was crapping itself about the Royal commission into corruption with Labor and the Unions... that if the Liberals win and get the investigation off the ground then a lot of them would be stuffed....

Worth mentioning:

Quote:
On a two-party-preferred basis, the Coalition now leads the ALP by four percentage points - 52 per cent to 48, according to the allocation of preferences at the last election. However, that gap narrowed to 51/49 when voters were specifically asked who would get their second preference.

More likely it's the 23% who still have some sense of right and wrong.

Under this scum, being in a union is more important than it has been for many years.

I didn't vote for the neo-fascist Con-alition (which ARE without a doubt our worst

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/shortens-personal-approval-slumps-in-new-poll-published-today/story-fni0cx4q-1226828950538

BILL Shorten’s union leader past may be counting against him, with his personal approval slumping and the coalition regaining the lead in a new poll.

The coalition leads the ALP 52-48 on a two-party preferred basis in the poll published on Monday, the first time it has led the opposition in two months.

The gap narrows to 51-49 when second preference votes are taken into account in the poll published on the Sydney Morning Herald’s website.

With Prime Minister Tony Abbott having announced the terms of reference for a royal commission into union corruption, voters may be increasingly wary of the opposition leader’s past as head of the Australian Workers’ Union.

The AWU was one of five unions named by Mr Abbott when announcing the commission last week.

Only 23 per cent of voters oppose the union inquiry and Mr Shorten’s personal approval has slumped by 11 points.

The prime minister now holds a 10-point lead over Mr Shorten as voters’ preferred leader, 49 per cent to 39.

The poll surveyed 1400 electors between Thursday and Saturday.

didnt see where the greens are 12% though...anyone got that?

Discussing polls at this stage of the term, when a Government has a locked sure majority is about as relevant and sensible as discussing the Polish elections.

When a Government is teetering and a minority like last time I get it, but now it's just idiotic.

Wow, one poll and the Lib fanbois are exploding with joy, which shows just how worried they have been by the bad polls. Even so, 51:49 is not huge. It may encourage Hokey to be even fiercer with his Budget and that will have very bad consequences for the economy.

Shorten is doing alright, he is working hard but it is hard for a Labor LOTO to get much airtime with Murdoch owning 72% of newspapers—just watch how the rightarded always give the Daily Terror as a source (including in this thread) and Murdoch just about owns Ch 10 as well as 50% of Foxtel.

It was Abbott's "WOW!-factor" budgie-smugglers that got him across the line at the last election.

Perhaps Shorten should go one better and allow himself to be seen swanning around in a tight pair of lorikeet-smugglers before the next election.

Don’t read too much into one poll, Sprinty. Polls are interesting but use tiny samples, from 400 (useless) to 1–2K, better but still a lot of variance.

Most people on here do fall into the left camp or the right camp. Not all, but the vast majority do, although I tend to identify more as a conservative than a righty, though I am both.

I agree with what you're saying, Andrei, regarsing the relevance (or lack thereof) of polls at the moment, but we're just giving the lefties a taste of their own medicine, and it is worth discussing such a jump in approval of Shorten.

Don’t read too much into one poll, Sprinty. Polls are interesting but use tiny samples, from 400 (useless) to 1–2K, better but still a lot of variance.

There's little township in NSW that always picks the winning party correctly. I've forgotten the name of it. That's where they should do the polling'

Probably some place in Eden-Monaro.

I think you might be right. That's an electorate.

Yes - I live there and it is a strange mix of people - my end are the law-abiding end.

A little ray of sunshine in an otherwise 'summer of discontent', matty???

Sorry that I didn't post a link last night, John. I hate typing on iPhone and am not sure how to do so on there. Someone has put one up since, though.

Also, I resent that second remark.

The last poll was a rogue poll and Morgan polls aren't worth the toilet paper they print them on.

Um, Labor have  been ahead  in EVERY poll for four months. If a poll was a " rogue poll" it would be this one, you are certainly not Einstein. According to the conga line Neilson is always wrong, but now Neilson have the conga line ahead all of a sudden it's gospel, too funny. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
When all the polls have the conga line ahead then you can crow, but seeing as though that is far from the case I will take great pleasure in rubbing your snotty little noses in your own excrement if the next News poll and others have Labor still in front. AND... The best thing will be seeing as though the conga line have all prematurely ewackulated over this poll none of you can use the excuse that the polls are irrelevant, as you all have done for the past four months, suck it up girls, I expect brown faces all round. ;D ;D ;D

Whatever happens with the polls, the Coalition is still in government, and an election doesn't have to be called until 2017.  :)

Yes, it's a big electorate, that stretches from the NSW/Vic border, to the NSW/ACT border.

The longer they wait until calling the next election, the more it will become obvious that the Abbott experiment is a bad government.
The longer they wait until calling the next election, the more likely it is that the Coalition will lose the next election.

You had better hope that the next election is called on time and not left until the expiration of the term. The only time a term was allowed to expire (1910), a conservative government was hammered by the Labour Party with a 13 percent swing. Let's hope history repeats.  ;D
