Title: Guess How Unpopular Abbott Is?
Post by Greens_Win on Feb 21st, 2014 at 2:10pm
Abbott least popular PM in 25 years: poll

Tony Abbott was one of the most unpopular political leaders ever to win an election, a new study shows.

The Australian National University has taken the pulse of voters on a range of issues including leadership in its latest Australian Election Study.
For the first time since the study began in 1987, none of the nation's political leaders scored above an average of five on a scale of 0-10, with 0 for strongly dislike and 10 for strongly like.
Nationals leader Warren Truss was the most popular leader following the 2013 election with a score of 4.34, followed by Mr Abbott (4.29).
Labor leaders Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd scored 4.04 and 4.07 respectively, while Greens leader Christine Milne was the least popular on 3.81.
"Tony Abbott, on average, is less popular than any prime minister in the history of the study, which began in 1987," report co-author Sarah Cameron said.
"However, Abbott compared favourably to former Labor leaders Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard."
The report also found Mr Abbott's popularity did not change significantly from 2010 to 2013, although he became relatively more popular than Ms Gillard or Mr Rudd.
The top issue for voters in 2013 was the economy (28 per cent), followed by health (19 per cent), education (15 per cent), tax (11 per cent) and refugees and asylum seekers (10 per cent).
The coalition was rated higher than Labor for its policies on tax and immigration.
But more people preferred Labor's policies on education, health, the environment, and global warming.
The survey of 3955 people was conducted over eight weeks following the September election.

roflmao, "didn't know running government was a popularity contest...."

Clearly someone hasn't been paying attention for the last millennium...

Of course it is a popularity contest and, worse, given that these clowns who are suppose to represent us (giving meaning to the term representative democracy apparently) fail miserably to represent us, then it is even more of a popularity contest.

By the way, I don't think I need to guess...

Hello to Bardot, my household is marching in march. Of course, as is consistent with my personal position, I am NOT purely marching to get rid of this Government, I will be vocal about getting rid of the entire constitution and current system. It blows big time.

A typical childish view by these dickhead labor/greens supporters, the popularity contests stopped when Dudd got voted out.
The people of Australia didnt vote for a popular politician, they voted for one that can get the job done unlike the dickheads in the labor and greens camps.

Wonder why they don't hold office.

What you've posted makes no sense whatsoever, Greens_Win. In one sentence, Sarah Cameron opines that Abbott is less popular than any PM in the history of the study. Yet in the next sentence, she says Abbott (4.29) did better than Rudd (4.07) AND Gillard (4.04). So, if he does better than both Rudd AND Gillard, how can he be less popular than any PM in the history of the study. Sarah's opinion doesn't match her own facts!  :D :D :D

He's very unpopular with LW Progs...
Sarah Hanson-Dumb, Christine Milne, Adam Bandt don't seem to like him much either...
Gillard and Rudd lost to him, indirectly and directly, Labor lost to him...  I guess he must be popular with a majority of people then or just not as unpopular as the rest eh. ::)
Just another bogus topic...

Oh, except the people also did not vote for much of a politician either it would seem, then again, Mr Abbott is surrounded by good company, in being a garbage politician. Both sides have the Garbage politician bases well covered...

Because, when compared against other PMs who won elections, he had the least overall popularity amongst voters at the time of the election.

She wasn't saying this in relation to his popularity against those he either ran against (Rudd) or those he didn't (Gillard) in the 2013 election - just in comparison to PMs in previous elections (Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard).

Also, you'll find that it's not her "opinion", but rather what the numbers spat out after comparing the election studies for each election since 1987.... i.e. the results of a standardised series of questions put to x number of voters after each of those elections.

The numbers are clear - Abbott is more popular than Rudd or Gillard.
