Title: Displaying text as a hyperlink?
Post by Winston Smith on Feb 28th, 2014 at 12:55pm
Can anyone show me how to format a URL with text, so that the text becomes the hyperlink? For example, if I wanted to direct the reader towards a link, I would ask them to click "here"; where the "here" is the underlying hyperlink.

text you want to appear as a link [/ url ]

Remove any spaces

I didn't know how people did that either.

Then I right clicked the 'Insert Hyperlink' button and found out   :)

Paste the url you want to link to, and then type the text that you want displayed.

e.g.

http://ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl Click Here

And then select the url and the text, and then click the 'Insert Hyperlink' button.

Sweet, I didn't know you could do that here... not that I will take the time to bother doing it,.. well,.. I might slow down who knows.... It's only an equals sign and another paste I suppose!!!!!!!!!! = cool!!  ::) :D :D :D :D :D :)

BTW, I confirmed what honky was saying by clicking "quote" on winstons last reply to confirm how it's done.. but you all know that,... just saying for the sake of completeness  :D  ;) ;)

I would not follow a link posted on a forum if I did not know where it was going, and I would advise others the same. The person who posted it could be a complete idiot who trusts any site they come across, or could have much better anti-malware installed, or could just enjoy messing with people.

You can check by right clicking on the link and choosing copy link location (will vary slightly with your browser). Then open a new tab and paste it into the URL bar. If you trust the site, hit enter.

There's nothing secretive about it.

When you hover the cursor arrow over the hyperlink, the complete url is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Freediver,

I can understand "some" people being over-protective about clicking on a link noted as "click here" by certain friends. However, if they have any nous at all they can point the mouse at the link and it will tell them exactly what it is. Not everyone is computer illiterate.

I very much doubt that anyone could complain about getting malware (or a virus) from Oz Pol. This is one of the safer sites on the Net.

The only "other" complaint seems to be from certain old codgers who expect instantaneous acknowledgement of their ponderousness. Refer above.  ;)

That's exactly the mindset that spammers rely on to get malware and viruses onto your computer.

It is easy the instant you get it explained clearly, and then Bob's yer Uncle.  I gave it away because most people did not understand that within all of those/these words, I had embedded the link.

sorry, I don't get it ... missing something and its probably very simple ... can you show me what you would have to embed the forums homepage, without actually embedding it? It would be appreciated.

There's no equals sign. Just paste your link. Leave a space. Write your text. Select it all (link, space and text) by holding down left mouse from beginning to end. Then click on 'Insert Hyperlink' at the top left of the post tools. That will automatically print the around what you have highlighted.

It is still pretty dicky.  Jumps around a tad before settling.  Easy to tell Mr Smith.  Just try to link any of your other favourite sites, and if they all fail....then it is your problem,  But if they fire..............it is a problem here.

Yay!!!!!.....but I would not use it too often.  As I mentioned, most here do not recognise/realise you have embedded the link, and then ask that you ................  provide the link.  Hence, as you will have seen....I reverted back to the Click here, option.

:)

FYI....freediver...............

Not here, and I'm BigPond as well.  The only places I could not (readily) access were here....and to test.............PA.  Every other site was no problem.

You know I know jack crap about these matters, but even I know there is a problem..............server wise here.  You keep resisting an acknowledgment of that.

Why not move and upgrade the capacity of the 'server?'

There is an easier way.

Cut and paste the url, leave a space and type the text you want, then highlight both and click the "Insert Hyperlink" symbol on the top left.

Easy.

Spot - Help is your friend. Find it on the menu. The Section you want is YaBBC Reference under Posting.
