I don't want the not-so-nice person, wouldn't take him as a gift.

Believing these kids were just gonna be nice, easy gushy admirers, he walked right into what was quickly a storm, unwittingly biting off far more than he could chew.  How embarrassing that kids can nail him so directly!

Well in 3 years they'll be 18 and be eligible to vote.  And it seems they have more brains than the majority of our journalists at news ltd.

Not really.  They're just trolling him, as you'd expect year 9s to.

yeh coz I'm sure gay marriage and carbon tax are the most presisng issues at the forefront of year 9s minds.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

More likely whats happened is 1 or 2 kids who heard something, somewhere, colluded with the others to think of some questions that would make him uncomfortable, for the sake of getting laughs.  Mission accomplished.

And when they come of age, they'll vote for whoever they're conditioned to, just like the rest of you rubes.

I think you'll find school has changed a lot since you left year 7 all those years ago Honky ;).  It's even changed since the time I was in school.  It wouldn't surprise me that there are many kids in year 9-10-11-12 that will come out as homosexual, as it's year 9 that's the average year in which kids begin to explore their sexuality. And unlike your times, or even my times, these days it's not a "disgrace" to come out of the closet and many of these kids will in fact have friends who are. So, the issue of homosexual rights is important to them because they more or less know someone who the idiotic religious dogma of Abbott's is discriminating against.

As for carbon tax, guess what even I learnt in year 9 science all those many many many years ago? Sustainability and the environment.  Guess what these kids would be in the process of learning?

Nope, kids these days are engaging, which is great, and they are engaging to realise that Tony is an imbecile.

As for conditioning, you really want to go there? Ey, News Ltd child?

Anyhoo, what would you expect years 9s to ask the Prime Minister of this country? What his favourite football team is? Those kids end up raking leaves for the rest of their lives.

It truly is a shame that so many of you are so naive as to not listen to what your government is doing.  It's how dictatorships come to be, and it seems these year 9 kids would be smarter than you.

I would love to go there.

Let's start with what leads you to believe I read any "news", whether from news ltd or.....whatever the "other side" is?

I don't hate one side, I hate the game itself.

And this is precisely what I would expect year 9's to ask, which is why my opening comment was "why would he bother taking questions form year 9s in the first place".

Are you for real man?

You stay engaged with the world by engaging with the world, not by reading some scripted, carefully controlled bullshit from a media agency.

Maybe you'd be more in touch and less easily fooled if you actually engaged with the real world?

I tell you that I too hate our news.  Fairfax, news ltd, both are disgusting.  I engage in the world through the people around the world I've met, and an organisation in India I volunteer for.  But it's not enough, so I read news and watch news about the going ons in the world.

How do you engage?

I see headlines, I talk with people, and if something in particular piques my interest (eg Ukraine) I seek various sources of information on it.  But beyond that, who cares what's happening on the other side of the world?

Mudslide kills 50 in bolivia?  I don't give a bugger.  I've never been to Bolivia and I don't know any bolivians.
I need not concern myself with such matters - it serves only to take your mind off the here and now of your own reality.

Nah!

Both my parents always voted for the right (Menzies).

But they were actually more centrist, although growing up during the Depression
and WW2 and the later 'Communist Scare' definitely influenced them.

Neither would have voted for Abbott (and I know Dad didn't, this time, vote Lib).

My mother despised John Howard, but still voted coalition till the day she died.

I was a Whitlamite as a teen just getting into politics and the work-force, and my
parents supported that, and in fact insisted that I think for myself and make up my
own mind rather than allow them to influence me.

[smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  To my parents. They don't come any better.

And you believe that "the right"tm of 30 years ago aligns perfectly both with the Liberal party, and "the right"tm of today?

Further, do you believe your parents are the only influence on you?

Mudslide kills 50 in bolivia?  I don't give a bugger.  I've never been to Bolivia and I don't know any bolivians.
I need not concern myself with such matters - it serves only to take your mind off the here and now of your own reality.

This is probably where we disagree.  We live in a more interconnected world and I feel the news around as to what's going on is important.  Despite the obvious that human tragedy is human tragedy no matter where it occurs, I think it serves very important purposes.  For one, it offers reflection.  And also, it allows for scrutiny to be expanded, which if used right I think is fantastic.

And you believe that "the right"tm of 30 years ago aligns perfectly both with the Liberal party, and "the right"tm of today?

Further, do you believe your parents are the only influence on you?

1/ No.

2/ No.

I was responding to your point about voting by conditioning, and pointing out that it is not always so.

And that I was encouraged NOT to be influenced by these forces.

Nothing more.

**EDIT:  A 'modern' Liberal would probably regard my parents as little short of communists.**

Unplug man.

With the weight of the world on your shoulders, there's no capacity left to take on the burden of making your locale a better place.

bugger thinking globally, just act locally.

I know what you were responding to, but the two conditions I just replied with rendered your explanation obsolete.

Do I need to walk you through the reasoning how it did that, or can you "think for yourself and make up your own mind rather than allow me to influence you."?

'Look after number one, first, foremost and always'.

Yes, it's coming to that, I think.

I guess you could read it like that if you were a hermit.

No, they supported it.

And I did actually agree with your premise, but was trying to illustrate that it is not always the case.

Did I abuse you? Did I tell you you were full of it, or had no idea?

No.

I responded in good faith, nothing more.i

Alright man.  My apologies for the patronising tone.  Force of habit I guess.

AH!... Me. too!

These fracking forums do get the emotions flowing almost as fast as the misunderstandings.

Makes me often wonder how some of us would go, even staunch opponents here, if we could
have the same discussions face-to-face over a few beers.

There'd be a lot more sense spoken, and a lot less attacks, I reckon.

So hard to say what you mean, especially if you are passionate, on a forum.

**Be good if the forum supplied beer... problem solved. :) **

Well done kids.  Completely nailed him

What a complete clown that man is.  THis is why he will not go on 7:30, Lateline, etc.  No.  Only the Bolt Report for old Tones.  The only place where he knows the questions will be less frightening than a group of school kids.

Poor kids though - I suspect that some thugs from the military will be knocking on their doors tonight and dragging them off to Manus Is.   Shhhhhhh....nobody tell - it's operational matters.

Because it's not legal yet and unlike you, they believe it should be.

He walked into it - I guess being outsmarted by 14/15 year old's shows us his level of intellect.

Armies from Greek and roman times were always organised around a section of 10 men who cared very deeply about each other, a platoon of about 30 who were very loyal to each other and a company unit of about 100 who new they could rely on each other.

Units bigger than that simply don't work.
Stories of army divisions stealing each others equipment are totally standard.

An average wedding or 21st, usually about 100 people. More than this and the care factor drops off.

Honk is right, people who profess to care about a mudslide in Bolivia are not wired in correctly, they don't care at all. They care about the perception of caring. It's little different to leftards who love the reffos or the aborigines but would never think of going and including a reffo or aborigine in THEIR 100 let alone their 30 and never in their 10

It's why I hate people like Sarah Hansen dung,
I cannot tolerate fools  :)
