Title: The Hound from HELL ...
Post by Herbert on Mar 18th, 2014 at 2:33pm
As Aunty Jack used to say ... "I'll rip ya bloody arm off!"

The neighbour's Staffy looking up at me as I lean over the Colorbond fencing while standing on a brick.

He's actually the friendliest and most lovable dog you could ever wish to meet.

:)

He looks cute. There used to be a lot of staffies in my area, but I haven't seen any for years. Perhaps people think they're aggressive like pit bulls when they're actually quite sooky.

He does? He looks like he's ready to ..... waaaait for it ..... rip me bloody arm off!

(But you're right ... he is cute).  :)

And you should see his half-grown puppy-daughter. She goes NUTS every time I lean over the fence about twice a day. Makes loud noises of frustration as she tries to scramble up the fence to lick my face off.

The owners don't even know the doggies and I have a group hug or two every day. It's at the back of their quarter acre property. They think they own a couple of fierce guard dogs that'll .... rip the bloody arm off anyone who leans over the fence...

I wonder if the reason is that Staffies are wonderful with people, but tend to be aggressive towards other dogs, and so taking them for walks can be a bit of a hazard.

What surprises me about these two Staffies next door is that despite them never being taken for walks ~ they don't bark, and they're all lovey-dovey with me at least.

That's unique to my experience. If you want your dog to be a backyard barker, then never take it for walks.

************

There he is with the rubber ring in his mouth for us to have a tug-of-war with. And there's the daughter that never stops nipping and biting him.

:P

Well, not lately anyway. Fell down a tall ladder not long ago and snapped a tendon in my shoulder. My whole arms hangs loose now just like my censored.

What is amazing to witness is how this dog puts up with the constant ragging and harassment from his growing puppy-daughter. It's a wonder to behold.

His brute strength and potential for killing within 30 seconds is all being held in check for love of his delinquent and naughty daughter.

It's an unusual choice - father and daughter. Was she the pick of  the litter to some other staffy the dad impregnated?

Hope one of them is desexed. Does he know she's his daughter - that's if dogs know those things.

It might be the photo but the female looks like she has cataracts.

No. One day I saw this female running around the backyard with him, and then a week later she was gone. Then just recently this pup turned up ~ and the owner said it was his dog's daughter.

Oh heck yes. I'm assuming they have distinctive smells that they recognise as their own.

No cataracts.

Another neighbour last week showed me her three puppy Boxers. Cute as.

I knew their mother ~ we had a secret love affair over the fence for a few years unbeknown to the owners. (Scrap food off my table).

She died giving birth to these three. Caesarian. Sad. Had a beautiful nature. A real loss to human kind.

Sprint ~ Saying 'Just shoot them' doesn't cut it here.

If you back up that statement with a reason ~ then okay.

But otherwise we don't do mindless graffiti in this thread.

@ Sprint ...

I'm not sure I agree with you about Staffies. I haven't heard about Staffies being a problem with humans, but I haven't checked Google.

Pitbulls and cross-breeds of pitbulls ~ yes. Phase them out ~ no puppies to be allowed to survive.

The problem with pitbulls is that they don't let go once they've clamped down on someone's limb.

With other breeds you can give them a couple of whacks and they'll let go. You then have a chance to pull a child away from them, but not with Pitbulls.

That's the difference.

Staffies are alright, they like people, of course most dogs can be defensive of their territory.

I agree with banning and eradicating pit bulls.

To generalise like that is absolute nonsense. Dogs are basically a reflection of how their owner brings them up. Staffies are generally a soft natured breed if socialised from a pup with people and other dogs.

Idiots use these dogs and other breeds as a bodyguards instead of natural house guards, but don't blame the dog for the way in which it has been brought up, blame the arsehole who owns it.

I have heard that said of a few breeds bulldogs for one...its what they do...as for shooting any animal.. for me I prefer animals to humans...

That is a totally ignorant and ill informed attitude there.

Whilst you're entitled to your opinion, absolutely I will point out to you a comparitive idea that will carry some weight with you.

Charge all Christians because of what a number of Priests, representing Christianity have done to children - their followers are not much better.....

To be clear, that is not actually my personal view-simply a comparison for you to consider...

Staffies, hell, even pit bulls (American Staffy I think is the new term for them...) can be trained up if the "human" takes absolute responsibility for their animals training/behaviour.

As is typical, in our ultra modern and switched one world - people want the cuddly, they want the image (tough, tats and muscle dog) but none too many take the responsibility or have any interest in the hard work.

I have three dogs, two of which have a fair bit of staffy in them. One is extremely sociable, we have raised her from puppy - she could kill "anything" she latched onto and yet, even under pressure (i.e. being attacked) has never latched on in any kind of aggressive or out of control way.

The boy dog was rescued from neglect and abuse, I suppose then it should (to any reasonable thinking person) be no surprise that he was (note the past tense) extremely aggressive when I got him.

Now, after a couple of years of hard and consistent work, he runs on the local dog beach with a myriad of other dogs daily. He still has "moments" however, he pays attention to me and I him, so that has meant the "moments" do not escalate. Further, he has learned to sniff and observe other dogs rather than just attack.

So, in short, your comment is astoundingly judgemental, ignorant and irresponsible.

Oh and my apologies Herb.

Those two look awesomely cute. I can honestly see why you would want to spend time playing with them.

And with JS there too, give em that arm, they will love you forever.....   ;D
