Title: I have no recollection
Post by Lord Sir BigVic VSD and Bar on Apr 3rd, 2014 at 8:18am
Arthur Sinodinos insists he has ''no recollection'' of more than $70,000 in donations to the NSW Liberals by his former firm Australian Water Holdings - despite being honorary party treasurer and an AWH director at the time.

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/arthur-sinodinos-memory-lets-him-down-about-donations-to-nsw-liberals-20140402-35yvs.html

Fancy such a young man struck down with dementia like symptons in the prime of his life.  Such a waste.

Fancy such a young man struck down with dementia like symptons in the prime of his life.  Such a waste.

HE eldest son of crooked ex-MP Eddie Obeid admits he might have told a “white lie’’ to the NSW corruption watchdog.

But his family “did not have investor relations’’ with infrastructure company Australian Water Holdings (AWH), he says.

Moses Obeid gave evidence at the Independent Commission against Corruption today as it investigates whether AWH corruptly billed the state-owned Sydney Water for limousine rides, airfares and luxury hotel stays.

It has also been alleged the Obeid family had a hidden stake in the company and that Mr Obeid lobbied NSW ministers and even former premier Kristina Keneally about its operations.

“My family does not own shares in Australian Water and we never have,’’ Moses Obeid told the commission.

“I can put that to you in Bill Clinton fashion: we did not have investor relations in that company.’’

There was a slight pause, before counsel assisting Geoffrey Watson SC asked pointedly: “Was Bill Clinton telling the truth?’’

Mr Watson has indicated he will accuse Moses Obeid of misleading the commission during an interview with ICAC investigators in 2013, when he claimed he knew “nothing, really’’ about Australian Water Holdings.

He also said his knowledge of a related company, Australian Water Pty Ltd, was limited to what he’d seen in the news.

“If it was untrue, Mr Watson, it was a white lie,’’ said Moses Obeid, whose father Eddie Obeid, a former Labor minister, has been found by a previous ICAC hearing to have engaged in corrupt conduct.

Yet Moses Obeid has admitted to signing a heads of agreement document in 2010 that Mr Watson has described as an agreement to buy $3 million worth of shares from former AWH chief Nick Di Girolamo.

Moses Obeid said he believed he was signing off on a simple loan to a family friend.

“I didn’t go through this document chapter and verse,’’ he said, adding that he was “preoccupied’’ with legal disputes when he signed.

“I might have been busting to go to the toilet or something,’’ he joked.

Mr Watson said if that was true, he had skipped a crucial heading.

“They’re three words, the longest of which is six letters,’’ Mr Watson said.

Anyone that "has no recollection" (cough cough) of "donations" of large sums of money should not ever be put in a position of managing money again. If his memory is really that bad he should leave politics.

Yes - memory loss was an issue at the AWB inquiry as well.  Forget who forgot - maybe a booted out ex Coalition PM?

That was a joke - the old "I can't remember" defense. Howard trained his cronies well. He would have been a good solicitor in his day. Howard's defense was "no-one told me anything so my hands are clean".

Sinodinos is doing both. He can't remember and he didn't know Obeid was involved in this scam either.

Will he get away with it? Probably. There were a handful of people who were supposed to be charged in the AWB scandal, but after the inquiry, they disappeared into the woodwork never to be heard of again.

Sinodinos will disappear eventually, unpunished and wealthy. He would have friends in high places.

If he genuinely has no recollection of these events, he can't have been a very good party treasurer.

$200,000 a year for less than 50 hours' work. Pretty sweet gravy train for a Liberal party hack.

Latest news is that Sinodinos is no longer appearing tomorrow, but a string of Liberal lobbyists who were paid handsomely by Australian Water to talk about sewerage pipes and drains will be up, including Australian Hotels Association NSW chief executive Paul Nicolaou and party powerbroker Michael Photios.

What did he reckon he was being paid $200,000.00 for, and given a $3M+ shareholding (with a potential value of $20M) for?

I don't think he was asked that at ICAC.

Still......I suppose it is possible he believes we all came down in the last shower.

Charge him with what?
Stupidity?
Greed?
Ignorance?
Arrogance?
Apparently they are not against the law...
Until they come up with something he won't be getting charged.
I'm no fan of his or Abbott's inner circle of advisors, the Libs need a shake up and a reminder of why they are there.

Grendel, there is more than just ALP turds producing that 'wiffy' corruption smell at ICAC.  Why anyone would conclude corruption is quarantined within just one Party is beyond me.....and I know you are aware of that.

The 'performance' of Sinodinas today has a familiar smell about it, and it will be a test of the resolve of ICAC whether they just let that sniff dissipate without going on digging until they find the turd.
