The charges:

Detained her against her will.

Raped her.

Stole her possessions.

Murdered her.

The appropriate punishment to fit this combination of crimes would be to deprive this fellow of his life.

Hopefully Abbott will make moves in this direction during his second term in office.

Lust. The thrill of the chase. And then murder to ensure they can continue with this particular kind of edgy 'extreme sport'.

Needless to say these type of men are self-centred narcissists to the degree that their own desires trump that of having any consideration for their victims. They are socio-paths with very little conscience or ability to empathise with another human being.

What's surprising is that they believe the law won't catch up with them.

CCTV cameras, DNA, prior convictions, anonymous tip-offs.

The rape and murder was very similar to the Jill Meagher and Adrian Bailey case in Melbourne last year.

I'm waiting to see if this fellow has 'form', and for what, and how many times he was not jailed but put back on the streets again in the same way as Adrian Bailey was, time and time again.

In my world these magistrates and parole boards would themselves be serving long jail sentences for their irresponsible stupidity.

if the guy did it? i hope he gets what coming to him.
that's if he did do it? the only evidence i've heard is that he was seen in the area. if  vinnies is still on peel street, well there is probably a handful of blokes with the "form" to do this staying there any one time.
he did run.which is not good, but it would be interesting to see what other evidence  they have on this guy?

Well he has Herb ...... a history of violence & drugs charges.

Not sure but I don't think he has been out very long.

The place and time of this rape and murder is disturbing as well. It's not far from South Bank, which is a popular area. It is also on a walkway that follows the river. People walk along this path a fair bit.

They found the suspect on camera at Bowen Hills train station at about 11:30pm, but more importantly, they saw him on camera somewhere near the crime scene around the time of the murder. The police also say, according to a report I heard, that he left evidence at the scene.

That's a mighty fine and totally decent concession I must say.  My guess is that the Cops have either a confession or iron clad scientific evidence and likely both.

But, let's see, and Bobby, you stay in your bedroom until he is convicted, okay!

If he's guilty I say - against all my principles - bring back the death penalty.

It's been so long now that a sudden change of heart on that issue in a real case might just deter a few out there.

It used to be argued that some rapists would kill their victim to increase their chances of not getting caught, but ever since DNA became a forensic tool it no longer matters if the victim is dead or alive.

In a great many cases the perp's DNA is already on record ... or will be for a Cold Case to later match up.
