I did once reckon they were okay. For the last several weeks/months I have deliberately not used one, and everyone still seems to thoroughly understand what I have said and meant.
There are some here who overuse them, I guess in some sort of attempt to either abuse or leave weazel room. Who is in favour of a trial for say a week, where they are not available? Let's see who can communicate using words. |

I agree with nef.. what about the pictures....????..
they are worse than the smilies.. you know what I would like... no movement..I hate moving avatars.sigs call them what you will.. I move past as quick as I can.. its all about saying something without really saying anything at the end of the day... but everything is irritating if its over done.. |

I use them sparingly, but sometimes they come in handy. You know what I hate? "xx" on the end of every text message - especially from people I don't regularly kiss. My boss's wife is really bad with this - she seems to add more of them with every text.

Grendel would be outraged that you called him a 'righty.' He insists he is not.
But....tonight, he has made an obvious effort, and well done him! His last several posts ~ no emoticom. Here's hoping others follow his excellent example. |

I like it when posters over use emoticons. It means they dont have an arguement and I have won. Most so called righties over use emoticons when out debated.

Wow, I never saw that almost page of emoticons in response to Aussie's request to minimize their use, roflmao.
For the main part, given the standard of a wide range of comments in this place, I often find myself looking forward to reams of emoticons and/or pictures, they might not say much better than the garbage words used, but at least they might be entertaining. More emoticons and less trash talk would be a happy compromise. |

Now then Mr Aussie, when you responded to one of my first posts here you said "I have you tagged". This time you say I followed you from elsewhere, or another board, and the other comedian on this thread says I am a "troll". You all seem a bit confused, I merely responded to this particular thread complaining about members using "Emoticoms". You place far too much importance on yourself Mr Aussie.

I said so straight up..a long story why I did...but thats the point... being identified... as old and not new.. I have noticed that a lot of people especially since they have gone all grand on us....have new names and its hard to tell if they are old new or as you say socks that are pretending to be who they are not.. one of the reasons I didnt recognise you was because there was no abuse.. almost normal conversation...I have always found it very hard to deal with you or shall I say kat... as it was all so nasty.. if someone spoke to me like you would write I would walk away... so thats what I do on the boards..I ask myself would I stay in the same space as this person..... usually the answer is a BIG No.. but I am finding the new cat almost reasonable... ;) |
Title: Re: Emoticoms Post by mantra on May 5th, 2014 at 9:16am
I like the new changed nicks on the regular members. They've left their original nick in place so you can easily recognise them.
Although Kat is an exception - I like his new nick too. I thought he might have been a new lefty and we can't have too many of them here. |
