i think either Philperth or Annie would be a good choice if they were up for it.

I have several objections. Most of them are rarely here.  Sappho?  When was she ever here?  Annie (not even here at all).  AiA ~ the bloke who is quite content to allow the most vile abuse as an Admin?

It is most relevant that you have not included me (Aussie) and a bloke like Phemanderac who has a very solid grasp of how these places need to work.

I'll put it right in your face, FD.  I am ready willing and available.

Anyway, my views on the below list have been given. I will add officially and in public that whoever joins will get my full support.

Every bit is true and happened as I said. Not that a draadtrekker like you would understand why those are not exactly good qualities in a Mod.

If you post an insult in a language you know full well the other person speaks and understands - it does not become less of an insult because others don't.

Still qualities not generally seen as good in a Mod, eh?

Honestly, IDGAF, because if the place keeps going in the direction it is, I probably won't be here either
apart from poking my head in occasionally to moderate on Health & Welfare, which isn't hard.

The crap doesn't seem to reach there (or hasn't yet, at least).

If I absolutely HAD to choose, probably Phil or Mantra.

Some of the others I don't know well enough, and yet others I know only TOO well.

No.  If I am appointed, it will be very simple.  There are Rules posted by FD.  I'll enforce them without fear or favour.  That's what Mods are supposed to do.  If the Rules change, then I adapt to the change.  It is easy.

I will not be entering people's accounts to muck around with their settings as FD has done. 

I am the first to admit that he and I will clash like you would not believe.  But............hey........maybe it is time someone who will not lick his stamps gets a go, wot?

I am no-one's 'yes man.'  Give me the Rule, and that's where it begins and ends.

I would be happy with Aussie - I find his postings well thought out, he certainly cops some abuse but is very civil in his replies.  I also would support John Smith, Skippy, Peter from NZ and Kat.  To show my thoughts for both sides, I would also support Brownyn Bishop should he apply

It does not make sense to impose any minimum contribution on a global mod. If their actions improve the site, then the site is better off for having them, whether it is a small or a big improvement. A contribution does not become "bad" merely because it is small.

On the other hand, a mod who does a poor job and tries to make up for this with being very active is going to be a disaster.

If we need more moderators, we will appoint more. We will not appoint inferior moderators in the hope that lots of interference will make up for poor performance. You can make up for inactive mods. You cannot make up for bad mods.

If a suggestion has been put forth you do not agree with then say so.
The very fact that the person has been endorsed by multiple people would suggest they are the popular choice.
If you don't want our input, just PM those you feel capable and if they agree appoint them.

That doesn't make sense. You are basically arguing that a small good contribution becomes a negative contribution by virtue of it being small.

There is no limit to the number of moderators that can be appointed. You can make up for inactive moderators by appointing more. You cannot make up for bad moderators. They end up creating more work for everyone else. Activity level is a non-issue.

Just appoint a lefttard and a rightard....

Unless your suggesting there is some sort of organised group I doubt it.
As for the forum of many posters time would settle that, the last thread on GM ran for over a week before a decision was made.
Then again for another week or so before Andrei was appointed

oh so do I.. I always thought longy was good he tried to get people to be fair..but it wasn t acceptable... I supported LW at the time, as I thought he'd maybe clean the place up a bit, and he did, for a while.

But I could not do so now after the way he subsequently got stuck into me over my welfare-lobbying activities.

Pretty-much my feeling, too.

Apart from the fact that I know I don't suffer fools well enough to make a good global mod, I'm
happy enough just modding the Member-run board Health & Welfare, and  a couple of other
much tamer sites than here.

And as I've done there, I believe that, to be a 'good' mod you do need to distance yourself
somewhat from the general cut & thrust of most threads. It's too easy to forget that you are
the referee and become one of the players.

It doesn't mean non-participation, it just means you need to be very circumspect (which does
remove a lot of the 'fun') or you lose credibility. Looks bad if you ban someone for something
you yourself have done 10 posts earlier or in another thread.

I would like to back up FD's point here, I was made a Mod a long time ago, at the time saying there may be long periods where I do not even see the boards, as is very much the case recently.
However, even though I rarely come here, I have popped in a few times, and been confronted with grossly inappropriate things, and dealt with it one on one, immediately.
My contribution is small, and infrequent, but not worthless. Because I am here so rarely, I do not involve myself in petty squabbling, as I do not have the current understanding that comes with witnessing the behaviour of the parties involved.
So unless I see something that unquestionably should not be here, I leave it to the mods who are able to interact daily with other members.
