Title: Labor and the Coalition, Dumb and Dumber !
Post by fractalign on Jul 5th, 2014 at 2:50pm
The Coalition is like the pair of buffoons in the movie.
They are so confident in their ability to succeed that they are totally oblivious to the fact that they are doing anything but. Being unaware of their own failings they stumble from one disaster to another, confusing and alienating people as they go. In the movie they  trade their van for a minibike  for some quick cash, having not budgeted for their road trip. They justify the downsizing as a saving on fuel economy without realising that the van would have provided them shelter for their journey to Aspen. In real life the Coalition traded car manufacturing for a number of one sided FTA's "just look at all the money we saved" he said. Just like in the movie he fails to see the looming disaster, 50,000 more unemployed most of which will never get employment again. No doubt there are countless sectors being sold down the river but I will leave it there because I don't want to leave Labor out.

Labor is like the character in Brewster's Millions. Brewster has the choice between inheriting one million or risking it all to get 300 million. He has to spend 30 million in 30 days and show nothing for it to get the 300 million. He needs to prove that he has nothing to show for it or he forfeits the lot. He goes on a massive spending spree and gathers a whole bunch of hangers on in the process. When the money is gone, they abandon him in droves. In real life Labor spent the money without any trouble and then some. They did not get the big prize at the end though (the mass adoration by the Australian people and a third term)  because unlike the movie where only the required amount was spent, Labor over spent the allocated amount by hundreds of millions.

The movies have happy endings but what we are facing at the moment is anything but happy. Just like the Hollywood military industrial complex, our antiquated two party system peddles the people a form of utopian propaganda that is often too good to resist. This system of feel good lying worked treats for the Coalition last year, but the problem is that loyal audience is shrinking rapidly in the wake of the budget fallout. Governments who only peddle the propaganda and avoid the truth will usually find that the truth will out in the end. And when it does the people will feel betrayal and downright resentment. It happened with Labor and it is happening with the Coalition now.

The only solution left is for the people to realise that both sides are compulsive liars and gamblers and the only way to let them know this is by putting them last on the ballet box.i

Personally, Putting the old parties, their old ways, their old debts, last on the ballot paper will see Australia take a great leap forward.
