stop the lies you Greenie loons..

Quote:
ANTARCTIC sea ice has expanded to record levels for April, increasing by more than 110,000sq km a day last month to nine million square kilometres.

The National Snow and Ice Data Centre said the rapid expansion had continued into May and the seasonal cover was now bigger than the record “by a significant margin’’

why wont the Labor/Green coalition admit that they are wrong and scrap the carbon tax?

why do they "con"tinue with the lies?

You might wonder why we should particularly care about Antarctic sea ice. The answer is that it provides a nice distraction from rapidly declining Arctic sea ice, glaciers around the world, the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, the warming oceans, the warming atmosphere, and so on. Antarctic sea ice has bucked these trends by modestly increasing in extent and volume.

To put this increase in context, the volume of Antarctic sea ice has risen by about 7.5% since 1992, according to a recent study. The volume of Arctic sea ice, on the other hand, has declined by about 75% since 1980. Antarctica has been gaining about 30 cubic kilometers (km3) of sea ice volume per year, while the Arctic has been losing 10 times as much – 300 km3 per year.

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2014/jul/07/antarctic-sea-ice-latest-global-warming-distraction

Hmmm so why do you think that the Australian and other conservative newspapers never mention the Arctic sea ice?

And the reason for the growing Antarctic sea ice? It's thought to be due to the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet.

Please... you deniers still persisting with this?

Its been debunked

Quote:
Dr Jan Lieser, lead author of the ACE CRC report, told me the increase in sea ice is consistent with the changes in a warming world.

The sea ice is sitting at the interface of the ocean and the atmosphere, and so it gets a double-whammy effect. We actually understand the physics of this quite well. It is because of the warming that we can see the sea ice increasing at the moment.

Speaking from Hobart and an international gathering of scientists to discuss polar sea ice, Dr Lieser said the picture of change in the Antarctic was complex.

But he said increased wind, wave and storm activity in the Antarctic helped to stir up the waters, creating ridges and rifts that helps sea ice to thicken.

The National Snow and Ice Data Centre said the rapid expansion had continued into May and the seasonal cover was now bigger than the record “by a significant margin’’

Cont ...

“This exceeds the past record for the satellite era by about 320,000sq km, which was set in April 2008,’’ the centre said.

Increased ice cover in Antarctic continues to be at odds with falling Arctic ice levels, where the summer melt has again pushed levels well below the average extent for 1981-2010. The centre said while the rate of Arctic-wide retreat was rapid through the first half of April, it had slowed.

The April Arctic minimum was 270,000sq km higher than the record April low, which occurred in 2007. The Antarctic sea ice extent anomalies were greatest in the eastern Weddell and along a long stretch of coastline south of Australia and the southeastern Indian Ocean. The centre said the increased ice extent in the Weddell Sea region appeared to be associated with a broad area of persistent easterly winds in March and April, and lower-than-average temperatures.

Changing wind patterns are increasingly cited to explain the expanding Antarctic sea ice.

Research suggests that the changes in Antarctic sea ice, both where it is increasing and where it is decreasing, are caused in part by the strengthening of the westerly winds that flow unhindered in a circle above the Southern Ocean

oh sure.. you can totally believe the lying scientist that are just making up their own data...  ::)

Quote:
For years, computer simulations have predicted that sea ice should be disappearing from the Poles. (uh oh, we got it wrong again  :o )

Now, with the news that Antarctic sea-ice levels have hit new highs, comes yet another mishap to tarnish the credibility of climate science.

Climatologists base their doom-laden predictions of the Earth’s climate on computer simulations.  ::)

But these have long been the subject of ridicule because of their stunning failure to predict the pause in warming – nearly 18 years long on some measures – since the turn of the last century.

It’s the same with sea ice. We hear a great deal about the decline in Arctic sea ice, in line with or even ahead of predictions.

But why are environmentalists and scientists so much less keen to discuss the long-term increase in the southern hemisphere?

In fact, across the globe, there are about one million square kilometres more sea ice than  35 years ago, which is when satellite measurements began.

It’s fair to say that this has been something of an embarrassment for climate modellers.  :-[ But it doesn’t stop there.

In recent days a new scandal over the integrity of temperature data has emerged, this time in America, where it has been revealed as much as 40 per cent  of temperature data there are not real thermometer readings.  :o

Many temperature stations have closed, but rather than stop recording data from these posts, the authorities have taken the remarkable step of ‘estimating’ temperatures based on the records of surrounding stations. (oh for crying out loud  ::) )

So vast swathes of the data are actually from ‘zombie’ stations that have long since disappeared.

This is bad enough, but it has also been discovered that the  US’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is using estimates even when perfectly good raw data is available to it – and that it has adjusted historical records. (what  :o )

Why should it do this?

Many have noted that the effect of all these changes is to produce a warmer present and a colder past, with the net result being  the impression of much faster warming. They draw their conclusions accordingly.

Naturally, if the US temperature records are indeed found to have been manipulated, this is unlikely to greatly affect our overall picture of rising temperatures at the end of the last century and  a standstill thereafter.

The US is, after all, only a  small proportion of the globe.

Similarly, climatologists’ difficulties with the sea ice may be of little scientific significance in the greater scheme of things.

We have only a few decades of data, and in climate terms this is probably too short to demonstrate that either the Antarctic increase or the Arctic decrease is anything other than natural variability.

But the relentless focus by activist scientists on the Arctic decline does suggest a political imperative rather than a scientific one – and when put together with the story of the US temperature records, it’s hard to avoid the impression that what the public is being told is less than the unvarnished truth.

As their credulity is stretched more and more, the public will – quite rightly – treat demands for action with increasing caution…

Wish I could have got information with pictures and spanner icons for you. But the following will have to do. Please wash your hands before touching keyboard or screen. Grease is a bitch. You might have to take your shoes off to follow the math.

"...How 4 Hiroshimas Per Second was calculated
In 2012, several Skeptical Science contributors teamed up with John Church to publish a paper (Nuccitelli et al. 2012) in response to a flawed publication by Douglass & Knox (2012).  In our paper, we analyzed global heat data, created by combining pentadal (5-year average) ocean heat content data to a depth of 2,000 meters from Levitus et al. (2012), and land, atmosphere, and ice heating data from Church et al. (2011).

Fig 1

As this figure shows, there has been no significant slowing in global heat accumulation, contrary to the mythical 'global warming pause'.  So, how do we come up with 4 Hiroshima atomic bomb detonation equivalents per second from this data?

The slope of the global heat accumulation graph tells us how rapidly the Earth's climate is building up heat.  Over the past decade, the rate is 8 x 1021 Joules per year, or 2.5 x 1014 Joules per second.  The yield of the Hiroshima atomic bomb was 6.3 x 1013 Joules, hence the rate of global heat accumulation is equivalent to about 4 Hiroshima bomb detonations per second.  That's nearly 2 billion atomic bomb detonations worth of heat accumulating in the Earth's climate system since 1998, when we're told global warming supposedly 'paused'.  That has to be the worst pause ever.

The data used in Nuccitelli et al. (2012) are now available for download so you can check

I think you misunderstand the level of energies involved in these things.

The Japan earthquake was a megaton.

The sun produces about 1 trillion megatons of energy a second.  In other words if earth keeps 0.0000000000016 % of the energy emitted then it makes sense. Not that unreasonable after all.

We think the science is in on climate change, and, what’s more, not only are we not climate sceptics, we’re not market sceptics, either. We want to harness the power of the market through an emissions trading scheme, to use that, to drive that change through the economy.

global warming theory hasn’t been exaggerated, your carbon tax or an emissions trading scheme to achieve the same effect, would cut the world’s temperatures by 4,000ths by one degree by the end of the century. Is he right? 4000ths of one degree?

ANTHONY ALBANESE: Well, Andrew, what we know is that 95% of the
scientists -

ANDREW BOLT; No, no, I’m asking you about that calculation. I’m asking you about that calculation. Is he right, would your policy achieve a cut in the world’s temperature, by the end of the century, by 4,000ths of one degree?

ANTHONY ALBANESE: Well, Andrew, what we know is that we need to act on climate change, and the best way to do it –

ANDREW BOLT: But is that so hard to answer, Anthony? What’s so hard to answer, about that question? You’re asking Australians to pay all this money, what’s the –

ANTHONY ALBANESE: No, no, Andrew, I’m not asking Australians to pay all this money. What I’m asking for, is for the power of the market to drive through change through the economy, so that we drive down emissions.

ANDREW BOLT: To what effect?

ANTHONY ALBANESE: Australians know that 2013 was our hottest year on record.  ::)

ANDREW BOLT: I find it amazing -

ANTHONY ALBANESE: You want to talk about scientists –

ANDREW BOLT: I find it amazing that you guys make Australians pay billions, and you can’t even tell us what that – all that paying actually achieves, and you dodge the question repeatedly.

ANTHONY ALBANESE: No, no, I don’t, Andrew –  ;D

ANDREW BOLT: Alright, well, tell me how much difference.

ANTHONY ALBANESE: What we’re seeing is that the rest of the world is acting, and that’s the wrong question, Andrew, because –

ANDREW BOLT: Oh, that’s what you guys always say. That’s what you and Tim Flannery always say.

ANTHONY ALBANESE: No, no.

ANDREW BOLT: Pay all this money, we don’t know what it’ll achieve, and if you ask what will it achieve, you say, “Wrong question.” But listen, Labor’s also –

why wont the Labor/Green coalition admit that they are wrong and scrap the carbon tax?

why do they "con"tinue with the lies?

They are simpletons clearly the more noise they make the more people wake up to their angry lunacy.

Our climate is absorbing a lot of heat. When scientists add up all of the heat warming the oceans, land, and atmosphere and melting the ice, they find our climate is accumulating 4 Hiroshima atomic bombs worth of heat every second.

so according to scientists .. 345600 Hiroshima atomic bombs are going off every day... oh pahleaaase...  ::) ::)

I think you misunderstand the level of energies involved in these things.

The Japan earthquake was a megaton.

The sun produces about 1 trillion megatons of energy a second.  In other words if earth keeps 0.0000000000016 % of the energy emitted then it makes sense. Not that unreasonable after all.

not that you could even believe the figures.. as shown above.. they just make up their own...  ::)

That's actually correct.

The figures are fabricated.

Of course, they'll tell you that they fabricate them through scientific methods.

Then again, they believe that consensus is part of the scientific method.

The Earth receives 174 petawatts (PW) of incoming solar radiation (insolation) at the upper atmosphere. Approximately 30% is reflected back to space while the rest is absorbed by clouds, oceans and land masses.

The total solar energy absorbed by Earth's atmosphere, oceans and land masses is approximately 3,850,000 exajoules (EJ) per year

This equals 920,172,084 megatons.

The Mechanic- oddly enough!??!  :-? :-? - has no understanding of 'Heat Content' so, I dunno, let us all sing the smurfs song and dance around in our underwear cos this conversation aint above the age of 3 years old basically!

yeah what about him?

he asked relevant questions and ANTHONY ALBANESE would not answer them...

and I see most of the loud mouths of the forum have disappeared on this matter and that of the matter that scientist are fudging the figures and making them up.. and even.. adjusting historical records to push their political agenda...

Fudging figures is what Andrew Bolt is doing: science associates figures with error values whereas Andrew Bolt and his phoney scientists don't!

8-)

Sea ice is not a good indicator of global temperature changes. Besides it is also not a worry, as when it melts, as you are aware, it does not effect sea levels, it's the land ice that's melting that's effecting these.

Just because you say it isn't a 'good' indicator doesn't mean it is not a 'useful' indicator!
