Title: Freeze on council grants from the Feds.... Post by Knight Errant Sir Grappler on Aug 12th, 2014 at 7:05am
" ABC Several local governments have announced cuts to road maintenance following a federal funding freeze.
Road maintenance has been a casualty in some council areas, local governments say, as they deal with a funding freeze following May's federal budget. While Tony Abbott promised to be the infrastructure prime minister, his first budget has been bad for regional infrastructure. There is a saving of nearly $1 billion in the May budget - as the Government freezes indexation of the financial grants to local governments. That has left councils with little choice but to reduce spending on roads which are the biggest item on their books. Many are also trimming spending on child care, libraries and swimming pools." https://au.news.yahoo.com/a/24688541/local-governments-cutting-road-maintenance-to-deal-with-funding-freeze-in-federal-budget/ Infra-destructor anyone? Your calm and measured views, as usual, please..... a) Should councils cut some of their fat cats such as 'ceos' first and revert to having a chief clerk at a quarter of the cost? b) Should 'lord mayors' and councillors revert to being volunteers on a cost stipend and small remuneration? c) Do councils need to trim the fat? |

worth noting that it ISNT a freeze at all - or a cut. it is simply no INCREASE.
so the question remains: are we going to reduce our deficit and debt or not? if we intend to pursue the responsible aim then spending HAS to be cut. and a cut as minor as this one is about as trivial as it comes. and councils... there are few more incompetent and amateurish organisatiosn around. |
