Tony Abbott visit sees students clash with police at Melbourne University
Date September 12, 2014 Student protesters have clashed with police and tried to force their way into a Melbourne University building ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Tony Abbott. About 200 angry students stormed the newly opened Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, but were pushed back by dozens of police officers. The vocal group went from entrance to entrance, pushing into and being pushed back by police, before staging a brief sit in on Elizabeth Street. Several protesters tried to force open a door, battling with security guards who pushed them back from inside the building. The group returned to the main entrance, shouting "we deserve a future too". Organisers said they wanted to target Mr Abbott because of planned changes to higher education. Coordinator Jade Eckhaus said they wanted to send a clear message that those in support of attacks on higher education are not welcome on university campuses. More to come Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/tony-abbott-visit-sees-students-clash-with-police-at-melbourne-university-20140912-10fvrt.html#ixzz3D3lTxU1U |

Maybe if Tony and Joe and the rest of the Krew of fat-heeled terrors offered to take some leadership and offer to pay back THEIR tuition costs at today's rates.. or those these same students will accept or have no education.... it might go some way to mollifying the righteously angry crowd arming at the gates of Tony's Heaven....
Reading up on the assassination of Julius Caesar... the Senate voted to indemnify and pardon his killers, but Octavian had that overturned at the point of the legions after the initial rioting in the streets from the common herd.... Seems apt.... |

as one protestor said... no one should have to pay for medicare or university education or this, that and the other thing...
it would all be paid for by.... the miners, right? |

Society should pay for it. If the Mad Monk and his motley crew had any real sense of decency they'd pay back their tuition costs which they received free. Just to demonstrate they stood behind their words that the "age of entitlement" is over. They won't of course. They'll just arrange scholarships for their children and screw everybody else's like Catholic clergy. ;D ;D :D :D ;D ;D |

Just making sure i haven't got the wrong Longweekend, but didn't a Longweekend take his daughter to a PUBLIC HOSPITAL for an emergency but didn't declare he had private health insurance? That of course meant the cost went back to the taxpayer, rather than LONGWEEKEND and the insurance company? |

no I didn't. but if I had gone to a private hospital they would have billed medicare just as a public hospital and then billed my private health group for the rest. or were you unaware that medicare payments apply to EVERYONE public or private? |

I don't think in my lifetime I have ever seen a more hated PM than abbott , he actually looked genuinely worried while he was doing whatever he was doing inside building , felt sorry for him then came to my senses a nanosecond later

But... bit.... but.. Swag! these are the future of the country - that's the official line... I hate to say it in this context (any civil enemy of the government a friend of mine unless they are a genuine threat domestic or foreign in which case their ass is grass).. but I've long ranted like some prophet cryingin the wilderness that we've had an over-focus on 'taught education' rather than learning as the yardstick by which we judte3. This - along with affirmative action - has lead us down the garden path of an actual reduction in standards for employment, genuine work related skills, and the rise of the 'academic' to the fore in virtually every field, but without genuine skills. Problem with that is that the 'academic' (academime?) in 90% of cases knows only what he/she is told - not what they have thought through for themselves and thus been educated (the word literally meaning 'lead out' meaning it is brought forth from within rather than pasted over an intellect). It's a sign of both our pussified society and our over-focus on offering to the 'kids' (like Kid Joe with his grossly immature approach to life and society etc) a far too easy run without all the sweat and hard work necessary. Spoiled, the lot of them. Sad to say - there are too many educated fools and when we have finally arrived at the predicted point where there are no longer jobs for them - there are even fewer jobs for those without these 'qualifications', regardless of ability. For many years learned people, including businesses, have been saying that the academically trained simply cannot do the work and need to be trained anyway - so why bother with a 3-4 year degree? You might as well spend 3-4 years training them up from an 'intern' or apprentice position, as used to be the case - and THEN promote them on KNOWN ability. |
