Title: Re: The emotion of hate Post by greggerypeccary on Sep 26th, 2014 at 10:47am If someone is so consumed with hate, it's often a sign of an underlying problem with that individual. I find it quite sad. |

Hate is a soul destroying and negative emotion. We all make our own choices on what we do in life and how we act and react. Hate just holds you back and is just another branch of fear. I think it's sad also.

Hate and any acts born of hatred, are actually more harmful to the individual than the person/group/belief/object that they direct said hatred at.
For example, it is time and energy consuming to extend the hatred from inside to the outside world, when the time and energy could have been preserved and used for something good or productive, that can benefit the individual. For instance, I've noticed things on this forum like people making fake accounts to pull the p!ss out of somebody, or creating threads with "insults" about a person. What a waste of time and energy!! Considering we don't really know each other here, but by username and what we type. |

What follows are the words of Jesus (Son of God) according to the Gospel of John 13:34-35
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” |

I question that premise of yours... Is it a useless emotion? I acknowledge that is is a negative emotion, but equally it is a passionate emotion and passion aids purpose and drive. |

Sisters, cousins, uncles parents, neighbours there is too much hate expressed here. Some of it a lot of people seem to agree with, it seems that hate you agree with is just common sense and it is only hate that people disagree with that is a problem. I seem to be told regularly that I hate things that I don't hate which I find to be a bit strange. |

It would seem that, according the gospel you articulate at least, that the people you hate are, in point of fact, your brothers and sisters...Given that the "gospels" refer to all humanity as your brothers and sisters.
Further, hating, as has been pointed out, is just another emotion. As such it is as normal to hate as it is to love. Yet, despite the "feeling" we as a presumable sentient species can also make choices. So to hate = normal, to act on said hate = a choice... The same as any emotion. Now, for the main part we do not accept someone acting in a socially unacceptable manner because of how they "felt at the time", even if we may be able to relate to how they "felt". So, to sprout forth a feeling of hate and couple that with actions - I for one, would respectfully suggest that is what I would speak out against. Not so much how you feel, but how you would express demonstrating that feeling. |

phem - yes, to couple hate with an action would be wrong.
the action is wrong. To express hate of a murderous movement and people ........... is right. not all humanity are my brothers and sisters. Not at all. I know who my family are. |

Actually, as challenging as it may be, I endeavour to separate behaviours from people, for example if my brother does something that I despise, it is his actions that I hate, whilst most definitely not hating him as a person. Hating people, to my mind is, of itself a form of acting on hate. Disagreeing about, perspective, beliefs, politics and even actions needs to (excuse the pun) kept in perspective. When we fail to separate people from their behaviours - that is when we get into the realms of the unresolvable. That said, please do not for one minute confuse my position with one of not accepting consequences. As to the consequences though, most human initiated consequences are punitive and, therefore, revenge based. You know, they are always the ones that are underlined with "teaching someone a lesson...." Clearly, they never do though, or at least not the lesson articulated. |

It's my opinion that 'hate' is simply shorthand to mean a great number of things I've no problem with the word 'hate'. It's shorthand as is the word 'love'. And we use both all the time just as we understand what people mean when they claim to 'hate' or 'love' something The word 'haters' on the other hand is used as verbal blackmail to silence the opinions of others under the guise of PC or whatever nonsense proliferates at the time |
