Title: Food for thought ... Post by Lord Herbert on Nov 18th, 2014 at 4:42am
What do charities really accomplish?
"Miniature starving infants with bloated, malnutritioned stomachs and soulful, pleading eyes have become fodder for the money boys who have taken over charities like Red Cross, Oxfam and myriad others with slick TV ads. The promo boys make millions in commissions while trashing the names of once great charities in their wake, leaving very little, if anything, for the hungry toddler with the pleading eyes. People only give from their hearts once. “Adopt little starving Ari for so much a month" is a con trick to ensure continuity of funds, and they never reach “little Ari”, they are lost in the money boys’ administration structures of excessively paid executives. Bob Geldoff never missed a meal. Soon after his “Feed the World” campaign he was swanning around the world doing documentaries on unrelated issues". link |

"Western aid agencies are using the plight of Africa's Ebola orphans to fund a lavish lifestyle in $800-a-night hotels and leaving the children to fend for themselves, according to Liberia's development chief.
Children who were forced to watch their parents die and were then shunned by their community are being ignored while useless facilities are being built, according to Julia Duncan-Cassell, Liberia's minister in charge of saving the orphans". link |
Title: Re: Food for thought ... Post by Dame Pansi on Nov 18th, 2014 at 5:38am Yes, beware of charities baring CEO's and executive boards, they drain the funds, living off the fat of the land. Unfortunately, the good money that unsuspecting folk donate doesn't trickle down to those who need it. Give directly to the needy, cut out the middle man, don't feed the fat cats. One dollar in the hand of a desperately poor person (you can pick them by the look in their eyes) is worth ten in the hand of some NGO worker. |

how do you give directly though??...these charities know this is almost impossible..even mailing things into Africa is fraught with corruption from the top... it is good that the Abbott govt wants more accountability for our AID dollars...with all the AID poured into these countries...no one should ever starve to death.... but they still do.. >:( >:( |

The most effective form of charity is that which is controlled by western governments under strict conditions of compliance by the recipient nations.
They'll tell you this is already happening, but that's only partially true. From start to finish there should be no possibility of option for hoarding or redirecting funds or relief product away from the specific targets. The Brits had millions of dollars worth of charity goods stolen from Philippines' warehouses that had been earmarked as humanitarian relief in the wake of severe storm damage that had created food shortages and homelessness in that area. |

I only knew Pickering as a bad cartoonist. I never knew he was also a bad journalist. But at least that's funny.
Re Pickering's riveting journalism in comparing starving African children to pregnant kangaroos -- shows just what a tool this guy is! |

Bullshyte! ...... monies collected for Cyclone Tracy victims in Darwin in 1974 went missing & the our own needy missed out ..... The same has happened for vitims of Cyclones Larry & Yarsi in FNQ .... donated funds went missing ... monies were claimed by people who were ineligible & our needy missed out & houses still haven't been repaired or replaced. Monies raised for QLD flood victims was mispent, misplaced & not given out .. aka held onto by the state govt. ... QLDers are still paying into state & local govt disaster relief funds via taxes & levies. So how the hell do you think charitable funds can honestly get to those in dire need in foreign countries without being syphoned off by those countries corrupt officials & the Aid Charities themselves? Medicines sans Frontiers may be worth a try but the others won't get a penny from me. |

The principal form of aid since the Lima ?Agreement has been the off-shoring of jobs and opportunities to the (fo9rmer) third World in the fervent hope that somehow - by stripping this and othe4r western countries bare to feed the money lust of a few middle men - there will be one day achieved a paradise on earth in which all will be equal and have equal opportunities and equal standards of living. Of course - this utter nonsense is exactly in line with General MacArthur's statement that the United States (etc) should never become involved in a war on the Asian mainland. Same thing - different weapons - and the main thing about this War going on now and for a few decades now is that we are enduring the governance of Quislings - and have been for nearly as many decades. Engaging in economic warfare (which is what it is - war by another name) with Asia is insane - yet it is the food and drink of politicians here on both 'sides' of the Sellout Party. If you wish to get a scary look at the inner workings of the AID agencies - read Michael Maren's "The Road to Hell".... You are welcome, Grasshopper. |

Substantially more than the blog of a liar, conman, bankrupt and criminal ? Pickering is commonly known as a cartoonist, but he's also an inveterate liar, a bankrupt conman with a seedy history of fleecing the gullible of millions of dollars while not paying his own bills. With various failed business ventures and numerous personal relationships of equal standard, for decades he has plied a grubby trade behind sundry stooges and partners, assisted by the odd sharp lawyer and hapless corporate and consumer regulators. He is not a nice man. Hiding behind other people, Pickering ran a high-pressure cold-call racket that promised mug punters computer software that would pick winners on the race track for them. Yes, you would have to be a fool to fall for such a thing, but as shysters like Pickering know, there are actually a lot more than one born every minute. Pickering used his creativity to refine the fraud, an early adopter of mailing out glossy video presentations of the good life to be had from the magic of computer power applied to hayburners. His first effort featured himself, but he quickly retired from the front line, hiring an actor for the role, a familiar face from a well-loved soap. It became a very big business with glossy offices in a prime Gold Coast site, the home of so many scams. All of this must seem a long way from the business pages, but Pickering decided he could apply the same formula to the stock market. Substitute picking stocks for picking horses, hire an unfortunate newsreader who thought it was legitimate software, and the scam was taken to market under the name of National Futrax. Gave 50 bucks to someone who was looking in garbage bins the other day... he didn't want to take it but i keept saying I want you to have it and he just took it and left quickly. [/quote] Actually that was me. As you know it's quite close to our newsagent, and I heard dumb schmucks often chuck winning lotto tickets in there. So I check it our regularly. I haven't actually hit the jackpot yet -- in fact all I've got to show for my efforts is 50 bucks. |
