Title: New Year's Resolutions
Post by Neferti on Dec 29th, 2014 at 5:48pm
Is anybody going to make a New Year's Resolution this NYE?

What is yours?

Mine is to never, ever make a New Year's Resolution and I have kept that Resolution for many years.  8-)

Here's one.

I vow to keep up with my Windows updates. I don't set it to automatic because it might interfere with things I'm doing. But today I discovered that I had forgotten to check regularly and there's about 70 important updates to be installed.

Here's another one (unlikely to be kept).

I vow to be nicer to people than I was last year and the year before that &etc.

Now does anybody want to tempt me to break it already???

If you set the Windows Updates thingie up right, it ASKS you before you need to click "sure I would love to download the update" (or whatever).  I have Win 7 on the laptop and Win 8.1 on here (desktop). It certainly doesn't just download updates without asking you to OK it. Ditto most other updates of programs.  Win 7 has this irritating habit of popping up a screen that asks whether you are the Administrator or not .............. Win 8.1 isn't so stupid. :P

I don't make new year resolutions but towards the end of last year I started on a huge clean up.  Things I don't need and have had stored for many years.

I made pretty good inroads before Christmas and intend to continue in this manner until everything I don't need has been gotten rid of.

Neferti has been banned??  Would this be the applicable Rule, AiA?  We do have Rules here you know, and they actually apply to you and Neferti just as much as they do to the rest of us.  Do you and/or Neferti expect some sort of special exemption, do you?

I don't really enjoy it at all but each load I dispose of gives me a greater feeling of satisfaction.  I am creating a lot of mess during the cleanup as I wait until there is enough to call for a pickup from the local charities.

I recall you posting the personal details (including full name) of someone once Aussie, details that you found "online."  And to this day you have shown no remorse, saying that because they were online it gave you license.  Perhaps you should consider adding "rectify my hypocrisy" to your list of resolutions.

You PA dregs have no idea about propriety do you.  It is why I have, for the moment, left there.  Why do you and Neferti believe the Rules here do not apply to you?  I did not get anyone banned, and I have not been told by anyone here that anyone has been banned.  People get banned here if they breach the Rules here.  That's a very simple proposition, and it entirely relates to what happens here, and has zero to do with what happened anywhere else.  You, and the PA dregs, need to get that through your collective heads.

Do you need me to quote the Rule again?

Okay, I think I got it in one, a serious new year resolution, is to 'declutter' stuff.
All this shopping is getting away with me a bit, and stuff just keeps building up....so out with the old, and make room for the new. 8-)

Hard to rid of stuff one gets attached to, silly really, can't take any of us with us when we depart this earth, so to help me along the way, I have been watching that tv show"buried alive" and although I am not as bad as that, I do have way too many shoes and clothes and perfumes.....handbags, scarves, books, especially cook books, and, and....oh never mind, you get the idea....also in my collectiveness, I like odd shaped and different coloured bottles, vases, etc. Such dazzling decanters.
Over the years, have collected some beauties, and now, find they are worth up to $300 each (such as 1960's Genie bottles). Oh I also have a singles record collection, probably over 2000 of them, but those are for the record juke box of course.
One such vase, I bought years ago because it was a good solid one for flowers, paid $3 at a garage sale, and, found in an antique collectors book recently, this very vase, it's worth $75  :o
I guess, when one gets old enough and hangs on to stuff long enough, it's value becomes something of an antique nature  ;D ;D

Well anyway, back to clearing out stuff, now I am on a roll, and it does feel good to give it away, or drop off at the op shop.
