Title: It's the end of the TV news season.
Post by Lord Herbert on Jan 5th, 2015 at 12:03pm
The bush fire season heralds the start of months of endless TV footage of bush fires.

Australia's audience appetite for endless video footage of bush fires is a phenomenon in itself.

This pyrophiliac fascination probably comes down to us from the Early Settler days.

Endless minutes at the start of the 6 O'Clock news bulletin that just go on and on and on ... with interviews, more video of burning trees, another interview, more footage of grass and trees burning ...

... on and on and on ....

After interminable minutes and a long commercial break at LAST the Channel Seven/Nine/Ten news team moves on to something a little more cerebral and newsworthy for us to contemplate ... yet another Footy Hero has 'glassed' someone in a nightclub late at night, or has bashed his girlfriend senseless, or has been caught pulling his penis out to piss on a parked Police Car.

well at least you have the Ibrahim clan.... to gush over...

Michael Ibrahim in hospital after being shot.. he has been paroled after serving time in jail for manslaughter...

and now we get updates on his recovery[shoulder wound]at each news bulletin  ::) ::)

the Ibrahim family are treated more like stars.,. than the gangsters they really are....I find that far more offensive than any bush fire reports,...

as it is I am amazed we havent found the answer to fighting bush fires???... water bombardment doesnt see to me to be the answer..

this is a terrible time for those who have lost everything herb....dont abuse those going through it.. abuse those who havent come up with the answer to preventing this from happening year in year out...

they know its going to happen and they stand by helpless to stop it......

They do stand by helpless cods, that's because no one has invented a way to prevent wild fires from flaring up.

People that choose to build/live in fire prone regions do so at their own risk, the same as those that build on the cliff face or too close to the foreshore.

I still feel sorry for them, but surely they know they know they are taking chances, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose......some in the Adelaide hills lost last year, some this time and everyone knows it will happen again if not this year, maybe the next......taking chances.

Fire and smoke plays a very important role in the propagation of many native plants.

I've seen the amazing regrowth a year or two after the fires have ripped through, the problem is building houses where they shouldn't be built in the first place.

I am HUGELY sympathetic to those poor souls whose house gets burned down and who lose live-stock and even family members.

And needless to say the guilt for these disasters reaches straight back to our State and federal politicians who allow the Greenies who sit on the nation's City County Councils to ban (at penalty of hefty fines) - the clearing by residents and farmers of ground fuel composed of fallen branches, trees, and autumn leaves.

The people at risk are not allowed to fell trees to a safe distance from their homes being endangered from fire.

Not allowed to clear the surrounding brush.

All because of wanky-poo Greenies.

But my BIGGEST beef is that there is no government financial assistance for people at risk of bush fires to build themselves a safe fire-and-heat-proof underground bunker system.

The idiots in Canberra will sent millions overseas in Foreign Aid every year .. but not a penny for the folks doing it tough in the bush while also facing the horrors of bush fires.

And then we have the usual Dirty Dozen bush-arsonists every year who get little more than a slap on the wrist and sent home.

It's simply not news.

Same with funerals. Someone dies and the news team rushes out to film the coffin being carried out of the church or into the cemetery... etc.

That's not news. That's what happens when people die.

What WOULD be news is if the body was just left where it was found, and people simply stepped over it as they went to work or did their shopping.

Monin lying on a slab unclaimed WAS news. I'll give them that.

Car accidents is another one. Two cars collide in the High street and the TV news teams swarm the area with cameras rolling. It's NOT news, you mórons!

But my all-time favourite is the weather report. We in Sydney experience an entire day of apocalyptic thunder storms with lightning, torrential rain and some hail ... and then the 6 o'clock news Weather Girl comes into camera view and tells us that Sydney has experienced ... waaaaaaaait for it! ....... "apocalyptic thunder storms with lightning, torrential rain and some hail ..."

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh ...!!

Within 10 metres of their home?! Are they kidding? Have you seen footage of fires travelling almost horizontally along the tops of gum trees - fuelled by eucalyptus oil and a driving wind?

10 metres!!

Indeed.

Moreover, cars drive through fences and into houses every day in suburban Perth.

Every single day.

That doesn't stop Rick and Sue from reporting it on the "News", though (and crossing to an on-the-spot reporter).

Sharks, cars through fences, footballers taking drugs, weather, and bush fires: that's our lot in Perth.

"without seeking approval"

With approval, they can clear more than 10 metres.

10 metres is merely a starting point.

I'm predicting that Rick and Sue will devote the first ten minutes of tonight's "News" bulletin to the weather:

"According to the Bureau of Meteorology, shortly after 1pm, temperatures soared to 44.2 degrees in the city - making it the third hottest January day since records began in 1876."

Complete with footage of people at the beach, and shoppers walking through the CBD's shopping malls.

Pathetic.

It's the same here in Sydney. News aimed to pander to the most retarded and uneducated among us.

Apparently this demographic must be in the majority otherwise it wouldn't make commercial sense for them to broadcast this very thin soup almost every day of the year like some Twilight Zone Groundhog Day.

Exactly.

Jesus Christ. My appetite for masochism hasn't yet reached the stage where I'll switch on the TV before 6 in the evening - let alone attempt 'self-harm' by watching 'Kochie-baby' and his/their hung-over guests.

(Here, I must confess that Samantha Armytage taking over from the Doyle girl has somewhat brightened the screen a tad I would imagine ... so I've read in certain magazines and social media outlets).  8-)

She hasn't got a boyfriend yet, and it came as depressing news to me that she occasionally accepts dates with Neanderthal 'footy hero' types. What the hell is she thinking?

That's one of my biggest bitches about documentary TV programs - so many of them are compered by egotistical idiots who genuinely believe they themselves are more important to the audience than the actual subject of the documentary.

A lot of these irritating documentary comperes come out of the UK, but unfortunately the trend has also caught on here.

Comperes don't even need to be seen during most of an interesting documentary, but the trend now is for some idiot to have his head half filling the screen while he's telling us about the lions in the bush behind his head, or the plane crash, or whatever.

I would happily take a baseball bat to these self-centred cretins.

I was deeply mortified to hear of her unfortunate episode of temporary insanity when she became infatuated with this fat (not that there's anything ... ) gay (not that ... ) American (not that ... ) when he was out here.

Boned her you say? (not that ... ).

Maybe she thought it would be a good career-move ... ? (not ... ).

She said most men are too scared to date her ...

This is the comedian I was thinking of:

He was chasing her when he was in Australia. Not sure if he got lucky or not.

I really look forward to news reports on petrol prices and which day of the week I should buy on.

One of the biggest pains-in-the-arse is this persistent 'news item' that tells car owners what fraction of a cent the petrol prices have gone up or down.

Holy Mary mother of God.

I can't stand this Far Left bastard. Just this week he uttered the 'C' word while a guest on the UK's Channel BBC 4.

How the hell does an idiot like this amass a fortune of millions of dollars being totally unfunny?

I quite like him (then again, I'm a far left bastard too).

Anyway, looks like Sam's in trouble:

"WITH Samantha Armytage still on holidays, her Sunrise colleague Edwina Bartholomew has been doing a cracking job of keeping her seat warm.

"The lovable weather presenter has been filling in alongside Andrew O’Keefe this week while regular faces Armytage and Kochie are on leave, and viewers are loving her!

"The 31-year-old television personality has been affectionately referred to as a “ray of sunshine” and “gorgeous and entertaining” during her stint behind the desk and it seems Sunrise fans are keen to see more of her in the highly sought-after gig."

It's always a risky move, taking annual leave when you work in TV.

Interesting.

It's the same with TalkBack radio hosts who go on holiday and are replaced by 'locums' who turn out to be a lot more interesting and have more entertaining personalities than the incumbents.

Oh yes.

That's been on the cards for quite some time now.

If she gets married and has a baby, overnight she'll balloon out like a blimp.

'Fat Watch' is keeping an eye on her.

How about this?

I hope they, at least, let the animals out of enclosures before they evacuated.

That one's had me stumped.

How was it possible the managers abandoned that pet-keeping centre for people on holidays, for them to die in the fires?

It makes no sense.

They deserve 10 years jail time with no parole for that act of bastardry.

I agree.  It sounds quite suspect.  If the fire roars through so fast that you can't get all of the animals out,  the very least you would do would be to make sure that they aren't confined in anyway.

Fox TV has had a revamp and is now about half price to what it was a couple of years ago when I shut it off...

the new boxes record and play at the same time... you can link record series.... I have about 15 movies to watch at the moment plus some car rebuild and finding gold series.. :)

Tonight the news didn't disappoint the usual stereotype.

1. Scenes of bush fires.

2. A road accident.

3. The obligatory report of a (former) Footy Hero caught dealing drugs.

4. Several weeks after the cricketing fatal accident, still an extensive report (with footage) showing more commemorations and commiserations for this unfortunate accident. The story is still being used to sell commercial space on the TV broadcasts.

5. A Sydney Muslim and his girlfriend captured and charged with a drug-related murder.

6..... (sorry ~ I was asleep and in a deep coma by this time ... )

Did anyone see a news report about the recent 18,000 Germans protesting against the increasing presence of Muslims in their country?

I didn't see it on my Channel Nine news bulletin.

Compare the Cronulla Riots of a couple hundred bare-chested youths from the local pubs to 18,000 Germans soberly protesting the creeping-fungus of Islamisation of their homeland society.

Incidentally, gandalf - the reason why Dresden saw the biggest number of protesters (18,000) is because the Muslim population is low there, and they didn't feel compromised by the chance of being spotted by Muslim neighbours, shop-keepers, workmates, and even friends - as would be the case in the more Muslim-saturated cities.

Conclusion?

That '18,000' is an indication of the sheer number of sympathisers in the other cities who thought it more prudent to keep a low profile rather than draw hostile attention upon themselves from the local Muslims who they interact with on a daily basis.
