Title: Fred Nile accuses males in seige of cowardice
Post by red baron on Jan 15th, 2015 at 7:35am
Fred Nile on Sunrise this morning virtually accused the male survivors of the Martin Place siege of cowardice.

He claimed they ran and escaped  when they should have stayed and protected the women.

He also said that the survivors should not receive bravery awards because 'they did not carry out a brave act' i.e. They did not place their lives at risk to save someone else.

Nile branded himself as a chivalrous male and believed that men should protect women.

We all know Fred is 'out there' but he does pose an interesting question - should the survivors receive bravery awards?

My opinion? No I don't believe they should, my heart goes out to them for the incredible drama they experienced but I think it would devalue bravery awards to give them to everyone who has undergone trauma.

Bravery awards should be reserved for those who sacrifice for others. Perhaps Tori would qualify. :)

red_baron,

I agree, with you.

Some people who receive 'Bravery awards' were simply lucky/fortunate.

And doling out Bravery awards [when it is not warranted], simply debases the 'value' or [rightful] prestige of the Bravery award itself, imo.

But if a person actually did something which demonstrated bravery and sacrifice, particularly on behalf of another person, then sure, recognise that bravery and sacrifice, by awarding them a Bravery award.

Bravery awards are not in fact based on bravery...

They are based on the judgement of people who are not in the place at the time...

I don't think bravery awards are necessarily appropriate, but they are also no big deal. A friend/mentor of mine growing up received one, he was quick to point out this little irony, four of us attempted a rescue in massive seas over rocks. I was injured (dislocated shoulder and lacerations) and two other blokes were washed over the rocks. My mate who got the award went out on the wrong side of the bay....

Irony.

Also, Fred wasn't there either, so his judgement is just as second hand in effect.

Why didn't Nile summon his God to put an end to the siege?

Coward.

Because his god won't be summonsed.

Fred Nile is as irrelevant as any religious figure.  He is a purveyor of the same Opiate as the Islamists.    :D :D ;D ;D :D :D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, well said. Could have come up with God magic and put the infidel out of his misery.

Yes, you are correct: it's a participation award!

Red Baron should get the Ozpolitic bravery award. It would look nice pinned to his shirt for a photo in front of his flag pole.
;D ;D ;D ;D
