WASHINGTON — Nissan said it would help open about 1,000 high-speed charging stations for electric vehicles between now and April 2016.

Does this have any relevance for Australia though?

I don't see anything much happening here - I don't think I'll be in any hurry to buy an electric car.

So the smart thing to do would be to get your charging system set up early, so then what will other car manufactures do?
Produce a different plug/voltage/system so that we have to choose charging station types or will we get some uniformity?

If you are set up first, and other car manufacturers adopt a compatible system it might be great to have that system protected by patents.
Then you have a whole new arm of business based on the charging stations.

Or will fuel stations take on charging and  have 20 different electrical output types.

Or perhaps electrics will all charge at home for day to day use.

According to the article referred to in the original post (which refers to what is happening in America and not Australia but, if Australia follows suit, the same mess will probably happen here):

Quote:
There are two main types of charging connectors for electric vehicles from the major automakers — Tesla has its own
