Queensland election 2015: Campbell Newman concedes Ashgrove to ALP's Kate Jones

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Quote:
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has conceded his seat of Ashgrove to Labor's Kate Jones in the state election, admitting defeat to his supporters and congratulating Ms Jones on her win.

ABC election analyst Antony Green was predicting that Labor would scrape into office with 46 seats.

At 10:55pm (AEST) LNP had secured 40 seats and Labor 43, including Leeanne Enoch, who is on track to become Queensland's first female indigenous MP.
YouTube: Kate Jones thanks supporters as she claims victory in seat of Ashgrove

Labor Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, who has so far achieved a 19 per cent swing in her Inala electorate, said that three years ago Labor did not believed it could come this close to victory.

"It's still too close to call at present, but I'm very hopeful that we will be able to form government in this state," she said.

"Can I thank the union movement," she said.

"Because it it is the union movement that stands up each and every day and fights for better conditions for workers across this state."

Ms Palaszczuk campaigned on a "no asset sale agenda" and said a Labor government would not offload the $37 billion worth of assets the LNP wanted to privatise.

"Let's put the past three years behind us," she said.

"Let's have a consensus government where we bring people together, where we listen and where he unite.

"Tomorrow we begin a brand new chapter in Queensland's history."

Mr Green said it was an extraordinary return back to the Labor Party.

"Mansfield and Whitsunday are the two doubtful seats," he said.

"If Labor wins both they're in government; if they win one of those I suspect they're in government.

"It looks like at the moment it is a very narrow Labor majority.

"There are still some seats still to call, but at the moment there's a high likelihood we could get hung parliament. I've got the Labor Party on 45 seats."

"There's lot of votes to come, a lot of votes to be counted tonight but this an extraordinary result and I think it's too close to call yet."

This is soooo fantastic!

The people of Queensland are not fools, they know when they're being scammed and taken for idiots by a foolish man that was so arrogant he  wouldn't listen to the results of his own public questionnaire.

We said that we didn't wan't to sell our assets Campbell, not now, not ever, we didn't even want to lease them.....have you got it now!!!!!

I knew the Libs were in trouble after the first hour at the poll, there were just too many people on our side.

I wonder if Abbott will listen to the people of Australia and dump his austerity, people won't stand for it.

Austerity measures are so yesterday.

Having trouble eating humble pie today?

If that's the best response you can come up with to the LNP's surprising election loss, you had better get used to being in opposition for a long time.

Another silly response from one of the Coalition commentators was a claim that the election loss was an inability to sell the Coalition's message. Oh, really? The LNP outspent the ALP massively and still lost. That's not a failure to sell the message. The message was crap.

They didn't like him selling assets, after he had an online questionnaire to ask the people, they said  NO ASSET SALES, so in his arrogance he shifted to LEASING ASSETS.

his army style

his overriding of the judiciary system

his appointment of Tim Carmody as chief justice

his ruination of the GBR

his incessant push to drill, drill, drill for CSG

his cutting of key public service personnel

his unabashed arrogance

his total disregard for the people of Qld

They're stuck between a rock and a hard place with that nail.

If they oust Tony it shows disunity and unrest within the party ranks, the exact same thing he lambasted Gillard and Rudd for, and who would they put up? Morriscum is hated as much or more than Abbott, Julie Bishop is insignificant, Pyne, is Pyne, he's a joke of a man, that leaves Turnbull, their only hope to get re-elected but is he 'right' enough for the fascist party?

If he stays the course, he's a goner.

I don't - I believe there will be some 'desperate need' to raise money somehow and assets will be leased out in a watered-down version.... again to support the false premise that by having all the money government knows how to handle it best.... what a laugh.

Wait for 'how are we going to handle police/ambulance/fire/nurses/hospitals/nursing homes/children issues etc etc etc.. without raising money?'

Not a lot of people, I suspect.

But that doesn't mean they're happy about it, or that they shouldn't let
the government know that they're unhappy about it.

Personally I believe that ALL public utilities and ALL essential services
should be publicly-owned and run/funded by the govt via generated
income and (if necessary) the taxpayer.

Newman and his friends wanted to sell state assets.

To whom? You got it!

Who was going to write the contract? You guessed right again.

Who was going to check the fine print? Fine print? Newman wouldn't do a thing like that now would he?

In all my born days I've never witnessed an election-result jubilation that heralded something good for the country.

It has always been little more than a re-branding of the same old shyte.

I have no doubt whatsoever that back in the day, Palmer made money while Joh was Premier.  Whether that was a result of corruption, I have no idea, but, it is always possible.

It is historic fact that Joh and Clive had personal connection.  Clive was one of his advisors way back then...and Clive had black hair.

I hope Labor will build another desal plant (to sit there and do nothing of course) and spend a few more millions on land to build dams that never get built. That would be progress.

Dear dame Pansi,

both Labor & Liberal sell Govt. assets -

then the punters get ripped off with higher charges.

That's right Bobby, they all give it a go, we stood up to Bligh when she sold us off, then we stood up to Newman when he tried and we'll stand up to Palaszczuk if she tries it on too.

Campbell Newman must have a short memory if he forgot why Bligh got so convincingly flipped or maybe he is so arrogant that he thought Queenslanders actually wanted him for premier.

whilst not a huge campbell fan, he was all class in defeat last night.

lets just wait 6 months til these brain dead muppets start stuffing up.
seriously,  i doubt the labor members would be capable of cleaning the dunnies at parliament house.

These bunch of amateurs running the state , negotiating with chinese and indian corporations.
Its totally laughable.  The asians must be licking their lips in anticipation.

Campbell may have been a bit arrogant but i'll take that over being a simpleton every day of the week.

Seriously scoot that's bloody laughable.

Prior to the paid secondment of Newman from the Brisbane Council the LNP in QLD were a bunch of inept losers.

The 2 boneheads that had go at leadership Seney & Springborg got plumb ministers jobs & have since sold out their mates in regional QLD & on the land by reducing services & folding to big mining & CSG.

Newman got found out by the state that he should have stayed in the council where he was racking up debt building monuments to himself & tunnels at ratepayers expense.

As stated if Anna Tries the asset sale or lease she will be booted as well.
