Title: Life's little phases Post by bogarde73 on Feb 11th, 2015 at 9:57am
Wearing my Andre Agassi shorts today, I'm in a reflective mood and I was thinking about the phases you go through over your life.
It might be in relationships & social life, or it might be in things you do like hobbies, sport etc. I was thinking about the phases I've been through in music. I have mentioned previously that I was brought up on jazz, which has its own phases of development itself and I went through all of them. But my interest flagged around about the age of 30. I went from there into soul music - a natural progression I guess, like G7 to C - and then became fascinated with Brit pop music, especially of course the Beatles. Later, I realised that I knew nothing about classical music, so started to listen exclusively to that. I had a very expensive sound system at the time and was able to make good quality tapes from classic FM. I guess that phase lasted about 10 years. After that I went right off music completely, as I did once with books, and couldn't tolerate the sound of it at all, maybe for 15 years. Now I've decide to listen to my collection again. Work that out. What phases have you gone through? I'm interested if nobody else is. |

I love classical music, always have. Added classical jazz, Louis Armstrong to Dave Brubeck.
Ahah, went through a phase of rugby songs. Loved to cook, to eat fine food, all my life. Added brewing to that ohh, 20, 25 years ago? |

Mine is hair, I think. In the last year, I have had long almost waist length dark hair, bra strap length bright red hair with a copper ombre and I'm now a blonde.

Louis Armstrong always carried a tape recorder on his travels. When he was sitting around in the dressing room or hotel room, he would record everything - conversations, little practice pieces. There are hundreds of tapes I think now in the Library of Congress and somewhere in the BBC Radio 4 archive there is a download of around 90 minutes of samples. Did you ever listen to Charlie Parker ("Bird")? I played alto/tenor sax for 20 odd years (and they were odd) and worked with quite a few of Sydney's best pre-1980. That was another life phase in what has been quite an eclectic past. |

Yeah, have heard Bird.
I envy anyone who can really play a musical instrument. |
