Title: Quran Author says moon has its own light.

Muslims believe that the Qur'an contains a message from an all-powerful, all-knowing, infallible being. If this is true then it should not contain any errors, mistakes, or information that contradicts known facts about the universe. If even one error exists in the text of Islam's holy book then the claims of divine authorship and infallibility are not true. An objective evaluation of the Qur’an shows that it contains numerous scientific and historical errors and it reflects a pre-scientific, 7th century view of the natural world.

Moon Emits Light

The moon does not emit its own light but simply reflects light coming from the Sun. The Arabic word for reflected (in`ikaas) does not appear in this Qur'anic verse that says the Moon is a "light". It instead uses the word "Noor" which is used to denote an entity that emits light.

Qur'an 71:16

"And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp?"

The word "Noor" is also used in this verse to show that Allah is the "light" of the universe. Clearly the author is not implying that Allah reflects light from another source but is the source of the light.

Qur'an 24:35

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things."

Hmm it seems the quran author got it wrong again. allahs infallibility seems a little off on this one.

Maybe its just one big misunderstanding.

...and the bible thumpers go on about a society coming to an end during a flood. But to be resurrected by one family being able to mate with themselves to repopulate the world.

actually has a basis in fact, it appears that all humans are descended form one small group of people.

the research confirms the “Out Of Africa” hypothesis that all modern humans stem from a single group of Homo sapiens who emigrated from Africa 2,000 generations ago and spread throughout Eurasia over thousands of years. These settlers replaced other early humans (such as Neanderthals), rather than interbreeding with them.
Academics analysed the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and Y chromosome DNA of Aboriginal Australians and Melanesians from New Guinea. This data was compared with the various DNA patterns associated with early humans. The research was an international effort, with researchers from Tartu in Estonia, Oxford, and Stanford in California all contributing key data and expertise.

There is no possibility that a group of people could have populated the entire earth 40,000 years ago. What would have happened would be that millions of homosapiens would have moved around the globe, with no known origin point. Then their genetics changed over the tens of thousands of years, and they would have had a high enough birth rate to challenge the high death rate, keeping the population steady. Two hundred years ago, the death rate started coming down, which caused a population boom. This then caused migrations for living space. And then we have today's overpopulation problems. We don't have 7 billion people on Earth because of a group of people in Ethiopia breeding 100,000 years ago. We have them because of time immemorial peoples of differing regions breeding societies.

So the Quran doesn't actually say that the moon emits light? Or is that in a different verse?

Why is the sun referred to as 'lamp'?

Dunno why it says this though : -

'And hath made the moon a light therein'

Maybe people are being wild and crazy assuming the moon having a light within is a light that actually emits light.

Maybe its all just a misunderstanding I guess :D :D :D
