Not my point. My point is that even if he had 'married' a 12 yr old at home, it would have been illegal for him to have sex with her until she was 15 yrs old, so the excuse of  'he didn't know he was doing the wrong thing' is crap, because it's just as wrong in his home country as it is here.

As for the 15 year age gap, that's not uncommon. There was 16 yrs between my parents (Dad was 36 and Mum was almost 21 when they married).

16 years or less in Australia for sex generally, allowing for various state versions. Unless of course you have parental permission to marry, in which case it's about 15.

In Africa they get women/girls pregnant early and some of them end up leaking urine and outcast because early pregnancy wrecked their urinary systems. 16 is based on the scientific reasoning that the female body is developed enough to take a pregnancy. The other issue is psychological. Is a 14 year old kid mature enough to have a child?
