First he gets caught breaking in to SAS central then he gets caught staking out a Sikh temple, has he really gone off the deep end this time and joined ISIS?, what gives? :(

He has well and truly pickled his brain. Pretty soon he will do something whereby some innocent person will get hurt.

Lotsa people in this world today, do that [i.e. 'invite' in demons] [either intentionally, or unintentionally]. http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1365564439/0#0 http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1393944116/9#9 Yadda said..... Not yet - his remaining brain cells are warily circling one another looking for a chance to destroy one another......

They are doing everything possible to avoid jailing him, unfortunately this is exactly what he needs. It is the only way he is going to get off the meth.

Cousins has been on hardcore drugs for at least 10 yrs now and meth will end him sooner rather than later- I was an Eagles supporter back when they riding top of the ladder ,he was a pleasure to watch and carried his team to great things- but his fall from grace through drugs has been a terrible shame- NO Ben Cousins is not joining ISIS, that is just so funny. Meth makes some pp do strange things- I have seen what it does to everyday nice pp who are now in jail. Yes he needs to do jail time- with a serious rehab program attached. |

Addiction is an illness so if he gets the help he needs in hospital then well and good. But anything less than getting him off all drugs wether in hospital or jail, is pointless- he will eventually be in a situation where he is hurt or someone else or both, eventually. |

Not true, the dopamine producing brain cells do grow back, its a slow process however. Many do recover. |

Yeah BO it is a really sad case in my opinion. I think a few on here should step back and use the old saying "There but for the grace of god go I" Sad to see a talent like that go down hill! |
Title: Re: Has Ben Cousins joined ISIS? Post by Rhino on Mar 24th, 2015 at 6:25pm
i dont see Cousins as being any more deserving of sympathy than any other meth head, there are a lot sadder stories out there than a priveleged middle class sportsman with every opportunity in life squandering his life and opportunities, he should be treated exactly like everyone else and the fact that he isnt is not helping him or his addiction (not an illness, addicts have a choice, those with illness do not)

Title: Re: Has Ben Cousins joined ISIS? Post by A.G on Mar 24th, 2015 at 7:49pm
Once they are addicted it is an illness- we will never agree on that and at that point they need the free will of the addicted to accept help to clean up- but the constant chase of the huge high is in many cases is to strong to fight against- unless he is sectioned- I doubt he will ever kick it. I believe the lows of the meth addict are a living nightmare.

Title: Re: Has Ben Cousins joined ISIS? Post by Rhino on Mar 24th, 2015 at 8:01pm
Calling it an illness only enables those so addicted to blame their addiction on someone or something else, and that is not the road out of addiction, personal responsibility for the choices we make in life is the only road out of addiction. Its not a matter of disagreeing, there is no dispute, illness is not something we have any personal control over, addiction is. Dont care whether you agree or not, thats just as fact.

I wont argue semantics but suffice to say it is a one of the more difficult drugs to kick- the dopamine reserves are severely depleted by the drug- so there is an urgency to stay with the drug- of course he/they need counselling help and as well as a cocktail of other drugs to ease them through the worst of the withdrawals- otherwise I doubt they could ever get off it , almost impossible. There is a guy in my street- he took 5 points last week- he was walking up our street with a murderous look on his face and looked like the devil- he had no clue where he was- he was naked and masturbating- was on another planet. He was arrested and is in deep trouble right now- he has a history of meth addiction and violence. Very sad. On his good days he is a normalish guy. Yes we have a choice even when sick but I think addiction when it gets to this point is an illness.. I feel bad for Cousins- as Red said a huge talent like that lost to drugs..
In rural areas there is no place whereby an addict can get help. |

.. deep in the fourth quarter..... ISIS leading Swans by one goal.... can Plugger take the mark and put his team on a level playing field with only a minute remaining.... Goodes with the ball... taken high and the free awarded.... he takes the kick... it's long and high....... the fullback is going for it and shoves Plugger in the back! It's a free just inside the circle..... takes his time.... the classical pulling up the socks.... and drives the ball RIGHT BETWEEN THE POSTS! Goal and extra time! |

I entered the thread originally because it was about Ben Cousiins- so I guess I am talking about him- yes. These problems are not unique to him and indeed most of the problems he faces applies to all meth addicts- he just happens to have slight advantage because he is a celebrity - I say is it an advantage? watched day and night by everyone, waiting for you to slip up- I say his celebrity puts far more pressure on him-whereas the average user can live a normal life. I guess he can access rehab easier yes- but like all others he is an addict- and probably doesn't even want too... so I doubt he has a single advantage over the average user. Do I feel sorry for him yes I do- I feel sorry for all meth users- as problematic as they are- they are battling a demonic drug and addiction knows no class- it will take them all and send them to hell if they don't fight like the devil to beat it.

It's both and your point is ?- addiction can be either psychological or physical and in this case- both !!! |
Title: Re: Has Ben Cousins joined ISIS? Post by red baron on Mar 25th, 2015 at 8:41am
You know Ben Cousins was in a facility with a fellow inmate and they wanted to escape. The fellow inmate volunteered to shine a torch beam up the wall so that Ben could climb up and make good an escape.
But Ben said, "no way, I'll get half way up the beam and you'll turn the torch off." ;) |
