Here's forward thinking.
The Russian Academy of Science has put up a plan for a road link from the UK through Europe through Russia across the Baring Strait into Alaska & down to the US.
12500 miles or 20000 kilometres.

We are looking at getting a new bridge put across our river here. We can't decide if/when we should, or where. But to think of the Russians do this sort of thing in the Bering Strait is quite amazing.
