Title: The next challenge... Speech Writing
Post by longweekend58 on Jul 16th, 2015 at 7:49pm
Housekeeping.

This Thread was moved to here by freediver at about 9.00 pm on the 16th July, 2015 from where it was commenced in the General section.  Mod.

There have been some memorable speeches over the years. Some are tied to momentous events. "I have a dream..." and "We will fight them on the beaches.." come easily to mind.

So perhaps the next challenge to you wordsmiths is to write a speech, as long or as short as you need. See of you can top the worlds best.

so, Karnal, Aussie, Pecca?  any of you game?

Sure, why not.  At least everyone will know I wrote my offering.  It will be so pathetic.

Do I get to pick my own topic or do you get to do that.  Not that I care one way or the other.

BUT.....if you pick mine, I get to pick yours.

write your own. choose your own topic and 'audience'. as long or as short as you want.  Make your readers believe you. Sell them a narrative they can embrace and believe in.

All of the above, if you like.  But it will be all mine and there will be no fakir Professors born of the imagination of someone other than yourself.

He only does that for the first week.

When he’s finally finished squirming, he does a quick google and voila.

Rosa Parks and William Wilberforce.

And he still doesn’t know who Rosa Parks was.

Longy’s next trick is a quick cut and paste of Martin Luther King.

He’s that good.

Fell asleep at my desk.

You're so lame, Karnal.  I expected stupidity but not this pitiful crap you are dealing now. You sound rather embararssing.

I look forward to reading your speech.  Or I would except that now you know what you are up against I suspect you will bail on me.

I'm correct right?

No, Longy, you’ll be bailing on us. You’ll have one of your little holidays.

Believe me, it won’t be the same here without you.

Longy...be honest next time.

Just tell them the awkward truth ie you don't give a $hit about a 2 bit forum like this because you only log in to destress, you've got more impt things to do like run 2 businesses....and that your only motivation for writing is based on how much money you will make from it.

In short, tell the truth and move on.

Eventually the kicking and screaming will die down.

Sheesh...I'm heaps younger than you and unlike you, I'm just a housewife and mummy. Yet here I am telling you all this  ::)

Anyway...I'm off to locate Redmond's Quiz topic.

Got an easy maths question to offer.

Oh and Longy...you're not allowed to answer the question.

Why? It will be way tooooooo easy for you.

Thanks Lisa.  All I was aiming for was a bit of fun where we all tried to present an argument FOR a position we actually oppose.  It could have been a lot of fun, but alas, the ever-present idiots couldn't handle it.  It is quite instructive to develop a cogent argument for the opposite side. It makes you question your own positions more intently.

all too much for the tantrum-throwers

Longy, look around you.

Hardly anyone on here is employed.

You're in a different position to most...you employ others.

So for you, this forum is a play land. For them, it is a very impt part of their entire life.

How do I know this?

I MYSELF DON'T WORK NOW AND IT'S DOING MY HEAD IN ....BIG TIME.

As soon as my kids start school, I'm outta here. And it can't come soon enough...sigh.

my wife was a stay-at-home mum for 20 years.  when she went back into the work-force the shock was huge for the first month but after that, she loved it and still does.  She works for me now (although it is actually WITH me)!
