Title: Aussie, time to sell your taxi licenses
Post by John Smith on Jul 17th, 2015 at 6:21pm
Time to sell and run Aussie

New green paper proposed by the WA govt. will eventually, I suspect, make it's way across the whole country.

the main points are

Green paper - key points

More flexible and less prescriptive licensing environment
More competition and transition towards level playing field
One licensing regime applied to all drivers and vehicles - minimum standards enforced to ensure safety
Move away from metered system to pre-agreed fares and payment before travel
Potential scrapping or reduction of annual government fees for plate owners and those who lease government plates
No compensation for existing plate owners
Department of Transport focus on compliance; be given greater powers
Taxi drivers not forced to affiliate with a particular dispatch service, such as Swan Taxis
Regulate industry under a single act
Industry take on greater responsibility for training drivers

Don't worry, Aussie only has a driver's licence.

More importantly though, who's playing tonight John?

Some of that I agree with.  Some I don't.  In Qld you do not obtain a plate for $13,000.00.  Closer to $M0.5.  I think that WA thing is (attempting to) address the Uber issue, but as each State is entirely different, I really can't say much.

I know that the Qld Govt (on both sides) supports the existing regime here.  They are yet to work out a long term solution concerning Uber, assuming it is not prosecuted out of existence as an illegal operation.

I wouldn't have thought that somebody who, apparently,  had some excess money to "invest" would be silly enough to buy taxi plates. Who uses taxis?  There must have been a reason for the madness. *shrug*. Presumably it keeps Arsie out of his home and wife's "space" plus the pub/golf club.  ;D

that's why you need to get out now ... at the moment you might get some money for your plates ... if you wait for things to change they'll become worthless overnight

My dad owned and drove a taxi.

It's a great occupation for immigrants with no skills.

As such, my dad qualified.

My dad made a small fortune (back when he was alive) thanks to the taxi industry. It wasn't too bad for someone who could barely speak English.
