Title: 7Eleven Expolitation Post by Gnads on Sep 1st, 2015 at 9:39am
The 7Eleven wage scandal goes to the top. It's not just driven by unscrupulous franchisees ........
the whole business model is fashioned to exploit & rip off employees ...... & push Franchisees to threaten/blackmail, under pay, break the law in regards to working hours & wage rates. Head office is responsible/complicit in wages fraud. I hope Mr. Withers has his wings clipped big time & it puts a big dint in his profits. Places like this should be boycotted. Similar investigations of 7Elevens across the US have resulted in jail terms for some franchisees & bought the parent company under close scrutiny. http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/stories/2015/08/30/4301164.htm |

Can you hear the federal government vowing to sort this company out for ripping off workers.
No? Oh Ok Similar to the other 4 Corners expose of Employment Services Providers ripping off the government. Looking after their mates again. >:( >:( I suppose those crooked useless unions will have to sort it out! |

You won't hear a word about it from government and any crackdown or increasing penalties and punitive damages, as well as a deep investigation into family trusts and the way business people like those franchisees can move money around and avoid paying, go bankrupt and then still live off the fat of the land.
Outright theft, and they all know it. Immigration should have a rule that if a visa holder is forced to over-work, the penalty goes on the wrongdoer. Seems the only group doing anything is Fair Work - that lefty organisation with a sheila at the helm (very PC). |

Yep. Looks like they're onto it already. "Meanwhile, the retail employees' union said it would it will win back wages for exploited 7-Eleven workers, launching a dedicated hotline for employees who had been ripped-off." http://www.smh.com.au/business/workplace-relations/7eleven-scandal-company-announces-review-of-pay-practices-20150831-gjbof4.html |

I do believe the Fair Work Commission is on the case? Last I heard the ABC & Fairfax media weren't the Fair Work Commission? Maybe a fair and unbiased Govt would wait until the investigation by the relevant regulator is completed before making any wild comments and accusations based upon a trial by mob media and union innuendo? :( :( |

Fair work, the ACCC, and every accronym you care to think about were all informed of this long ago and nothing was ever done about it. If it wasn't for the ABC they would continue to do nothing. This has been going on for over 10 yrs, and it's not just 7/11 ... many of the chinese restaurants, take aways, brothels, clubs etc etc all exploit their workers |

Because they gave up waiting for the free to air channels to produce a quality story on the subject. And ABC has had its funding cut and have had to put away a few dollars a week until they could afford it . ;D ;D |

A number of Ozpolitic denizens are similarly exploited with low pay for their services and poor scripts.
Gizmo, Swagman, Double plus good, Maria Costel and lee should join forces and fight their exploitation. At the very least they should insist on professional scripts from their masters. |
