Title: question about religion Post by Lot Of Shyte on Sep 12th, 2015 at 8:06am
What religion did god start?
We know that Abraham is the father of the Jewish Religion, jesus started christian religion and muhammad started islam religion. If god started all 3 religion why are they fighting one and other? They all pray to the same god or is there 3 different gods in the sky? Was religion started by man to answer questions he didn't have the answers too? Like where did we come from, why are we here and where do we go when we die. |

There are more than three religions. There are actually 12 classical world religions. Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism. The reason that they fight all the time is that everyone thinks that there own religion is the right one. |

I suppose that is true in very general terms, but I think the reasons for the fighting lies in several different aspects of the human condition. One important factor is that the ego cannot bear to be contradicted. By taking advantage of this basic instinct, fighting another religion is used to unify the faithful. This perpetuates the hierarchies of power. Piety is a good cover for a desire to control people and get one's hands into the coffers. |

The ancient Greeks had a special place in Athens where they had erected statues of the 12 Olympians (gods) like Zues, Athena, Apollo on pedestals etc etc.
There was also a thirteenth pedestal with no statue and the inscription read to the unknown god. Paul seized this opportunity to spread the word of Jesus to Europe by proclaiming this is the God that he represented. There is only one God, to the Muslims he is known as Alla, to the Jews he is Yahweh (Jehovah), tgo the Christians he is "I am", Jesus and God. Men made the religions and even though they talk about love and peace they always practice hate and war. It's in man's nature to destroy himself, man is a selfish creature that only thinks about himself. Individualism will destroy the group as a whole, cause individuals only care about themselves and not their neighbours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ4kSCXf1GM |

They all pray to one God or another. Some of them have more than one God. Pagans also have many Gods as did the ancient Greek and Roman religions. So yes, religion is a man made creation to try and explain the world. |

The gods must be crazy. There must be a super-god above them who opposed monopoly theism and compelled competition between the gods. The one with the underwear on the outside of it's trousers is the super god. |

I read a long time ago now (so don't expect a link anytime in this life) that, at least as far as the Celts were concerned, they developed religion at about the same time they moved from being familial (small) tribal groups to larger mixed family groups. Apparently, they realised it might be problematic for one lot of people to make laws for all people, so, over time, they elevated heroes from folk lore to be Gods or Demi gods and then used their moral examples as the basis for law... that is a very simplistic version of what was almost an entire book... The Celts were a pagan religion, their wise people, priests, doctors and a range of other things were the Druids (or at least in the ranks leading up to being a Druid). Celtic religion also related at some level to Wicker but I don't recall now either what that link was or how strong it was.
It kind of made sense to me at the time as a reason why, very primitive man may have reasoned the need to religion and, further, how religion went on to exercise great power and control as we still see today. |

It is the age old question. How and why are we here.
It is strange that people can believe that nothing would exist without divine intervention while they fail to understand that belief contravenes their belief in the supreme being because it would imply multiple layers of supreme beings creating their subordinate beings and their universes or pluriverses. |
