Diplomacy is not a short term endeavor. It involves significant acts of good will over significant time frames to garner an ability for a country to be accepted and trusted by a foreign nation. You can't hop around on the matter. You even occasionally have to overlook shortcomings and misdeeds of the nation your are trying to cultivate a relationship with.

Australia has destroyed its' diplomatic relations with:

PRC
ROK
Israel
UK
USA
Indonesia

and others who are not wanting to be so public about it. The relationship is now to keep up appearances. They don't need the patriotic segments of the public radicalising against them (the USA and UK) so they maintain a facade of frienship for the media.

So, just recently, the Australian foreign minister has gone off on this tangent:

Syria is not a US aligned nation. It is a Russian aligned nation. To get closer to Syria, you are going to have to be closer to Russia. Australia has a non-functioning relationship with Russia. They are not able to engage with each other. Therefore, the DFAT and intelligence agencies (this involves a war and terrorism) are trying to get in to an arena they are incapable of becoming involved in. The USA can do this kind of stuff if they have shattered relations because they are very powerful and their opinions and policies matter. This is not the case for Australia. Australia has a broken relationship with Russia. Australia has no foreign diplomatic capabilities. Syria still has close Russian military ties.

Not only is she attacking the authority and dignity of the UN by imposing Australian thoughts upon an aspect of the UN Australia was removed from, she is attacking Russia, pretending Australia is important, and not acknowledging the fact that the Australian investigation in the Russian plane crash is illegal. It is a military matter. Not a matter where you send Interpol and the Australian Federal Police. Out of stubborness, misdirected self importance, arrogance, and a huge inferiority complex, Australia, knowing they have an untenable position, are doing acts designed to harm Australia.

A long standing ability to engage with these nations. Something that is now impossible for Australia to do.

Due to the past acts of the Australian government designed to cause personal offense and harm relations and the image of South Korea, any country that wants to use South Korea as a means to engage with the USA will have to avoid Australia. Going anywhere near any kind of diplomatic or intelligence relationship with Australia will destroy your access to South Korea. And therefore the USA.

Australia has had their foreign affairs sanctioned and rendered void. In the USA, UK, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
