These kinds of cases disturb me because defendants do NOT get the presumption of innocence. If that were so, barring a confession, this case is a slam-dunk NOT GUILTY. It is two people's word against one another - one a renowned scientist and the other a child. And there is no other evidence of any kind.

There is one bit of evidence that sounds deeply suspicious. He had a 'life-size naked poster of Wilson on the back of a door'. Please explain to me how ANYONE in the pre-computer 1970s was able to produce that? At the time it would require a 4 colour printing press. There were no colour inkjets or lasers of any kind nor any computers to create them. The claim is demonstrably bogus and cast's fatal aspersions on the girl's memory and therefore testimony.

And where has she been for the past 40 years? Society has been dealing with this issue for the last 25 years so where has she been?

That's another good point. How many wives would put up with such a thing. Whatever actually happened, she is not telling the truth. She may think it is the truth but it rather obviously is not.

I understand that, but at the same time, 40 years tends to blur memories and create a few false ones as well. After all this time, the chance of her recollection being fully accurate is not high. The problem is certainly a difficult one, but our courts require actual proof and a mere claim from 40 years ago is not enough to convict - I hope.

Then you should be charged and due process should occur.

Nothing is more pertinent than the Rolf Harris case. A tall poppy and the victims too frightened to speak out until one, did and it gave others the encouragement to speak out.

And of course Harris was found guilty by a jury of his peers of being A PERVERT EXTRAORDINAIRE. He got away with it, almost forever...but not bloody quite.

Yes - evidence may generate a Prima Facie case, but that evidence needs to be properly supported and considered under the rules of Law.

Someone simply saying something is not proof positive - it is an assertion - not a proven fact.  You know that Red - for far too long the NSW Police and others got away with making assertions against people without adequate proof and getting away with it.  This has caused a huge amount of cost to many, often hatred of said police force, and a brooding hostility between police, courts and public, which is now coming to the fore with all the chicanery of elected governments.


That is oppression and tyranny - not Law.

All of these factors are heading us towards either a truly enlightened government or perhaps even a civil war, and I can only say that at least MOST police these days are becoming more aware of the true place in the community, though there are still bricks, burnouts, and head cases out there.... especially in the middle of the night.

Did you look at the evidence? It is nothing more than her CLAIM. That is all. How does a young girls spurious claim backed by no evidence become a compelling case?  And did you see the transparent nonsense about a full-size naked poster of the man?

Comments like yours are what remind us of why cops aren't brain surgeons. The man's innocence is not proven, but his guilt is likewise NOT proven.

dear oh dear..maybe you havent read of late how many carers /taxi drivers of the disabled have been charged with sexual assault of their passengers.. the very people who were trusted with them..

my son in law a copper at the time was brought back from overseas 3 times only to have the trial put off at the last moment each time ...he said it happened all the time ... it isnt new.

All because a Juror could not be impartial. And to be honest, only a biased jury could have found some of these people guilty in previous cases. How does an unbiased jury find someone guilty of a 40 year old claim of assault made by a 10 year old with no witnesses and no other evidence? 

But to give an example, do you think for a moment that Cods would vote not guilty... ever?  Based on her scurrilous accusations on here, I have no doubt she would put wool in her eyes, knit her way through the trial and vote GUILTY the moment the jury room closed.
