Title: Turnbull contradicts himself!!! Post by Armchair_Politician on Nov 19th, 2015 at 9:16pm
"Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull described Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad as a “murderous tyrant” and suggested ISIL cannot be defeated while he remains in power. But the PM left open the option of accepting Assad remaining in an interim role as part of a ceasefire being brokered by the US, Russia and major players in the region."

Mr Abbott would never change his mind.
Thank heavens the grown-ups were once in charge. |

As I said the other day - you've got a 4-way stand-off here.
(1) Assad was challenged some 18 months ago. But he survived by promising to improve. Obama believed him but he hasn't improved. What's worse he enlist the help of ISIS to control his political opposition i.e. you help me and I'll give you Raqqa (2) Russia is close to Assad. He's asked Russia to help bomb the opposition. But now they want revenge on ISIS (3) France wants revenge on ISIS (4) America and the major of the UN wants Assad out Assad knows he has to go. If he is "dethroned" then he and his supporters will lose face. They are not going to do this. Rather than just leave - there must be a transition or hand-over period. This is what Turnbull is referring to We see this "transition" strategy work well in Burma in recent times. It gives the departing party to "save face". Look to Iraq and Libya as example where someone is dethroned. It ain't going too well. |

Can't really be critical of Turnstyles on this one, no world leader has any idea of what to do on this and the reality is that Australia have no say in the outcome especially with Julie and Tony making sure that we would not be part of the process.
The reality is that Turnbull and Australia will have to accept the decision made by the other world leaders and there is nothing that Turnbull or any other Australian leader can or could have done about it. At the moment it looks like if you want to fight ISIS you have to put up with the other problem for a time at least. Nobody likes the options available but many think that it is the least bad option available. |

Abbott never needed to change his mind when often he held multiple views on the same topic. He almost certainly had an opinion his audience would like. He regularly held differing positions on the same topic for different audiences. Tony was flexible with what he could say. |

Yes he always knew exactly what he would do and tell his audience authoritatively where he stood. His maternity leave scheme or funding to the ABC, SBS, education, healthcare etc all come to mind. He was very decisive and then did the opposite to what he had said very decisively. You could say he was both decisive and divisive. He was decisively very flexible. |

It's really not that difficult, even for an idiot like you. Short term, they can't get rid of Assad, that'll just leave a power vacuum. The last time that happened we ended up with Isis. Long term, Assad has to go. |

Clearly the lefties can't deal with the fact that Abbott saw this coming and was right in his stance on illegal immigration. I heard on the news this morning an Iraqi man is in custody in Sweden on terrorism charges after entering the country posing as a refugee. The alert level in Sweden has been raised to 4/5. How many more terrorists have posed as refugees? Sweden closed its borders last week yet they're still having more than 900 people a day try to get in. Abbott foresaw this. Thank goodness he and Morrison fixed the mess our border security had become after 6 years of Labor incompetence.
