Tony Abbott buys fridge off gumtree




It's been revealed former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has bought a second-hand refrigerator off online shopping website Gumtree.

The fridge's owner, Emily Hastings, said the winning bid of 300 dollars was made by a woman named Margie.

Ms Hastings said she had no idea the 320 litre fridge was going to purchased by the wife of the former prime minister, Margie Abbott.

'Tony Abbott the proud new owner of our 3 year old Daewoo fridge bought on gumtree for $300 #gumtree #tonyabbott,' she captioned the photograph posted to Instagram.

'Tony was just a regular dude in a baseball cap,' Ms Hastings said of her northern beaches neighbour, who has moved back into the area after being disposed as Prime Minister in September.

'she was really down-to-earth but they were both definitely in a bit of a hurry. Plus I'm pretty sure there were some security outside,' Ms Hastings said.

'Margie said she thought the fridge would come in handy come Christmas time,' she said.

Its extreme to think its normal to just go and spend $300 on something for 1 day.  Bags of ice cost $3.

Gumtree would be the cheapest I would've thought?  But be careful, you never know the quality of Whitegoods, especially fridges.

It's a little more expensive than the Facebook buy/sell sites, add in the travel and transport costs and it does get a bit pricey.

Tony would recycle if he could claim TA for a couple days. Remember Tone went to a Lib function in Melbourne? Was late for Cabinet next day “I had to go to the Peter Mac cancer centre so I could claim TA for the trip.”

When he left politics, John Howard commented on how much whitegoods had dropped during his 11 years in power. He was referring to the effect of our solid terms of trade and the high Australian dollar.

Mr Abbott’s had a similar experience, only second hand. He got his fridge on Gumtree.

That’s some economic legacy. What a tall glass of water that man is. In years to come we’ll tell our grandchildren, yes, we were there when Mr Abbott was our Regrigeration Prime Minister. He was the bee’s knees.

And thank heavens for that.
