It's our best source of information, but by it's nature it is incomplete. It is also subject politics and other human distortions. Peer review helps to mitigate it, but it's by no means completely effective.

The peer-review process in climate science has come under a cloud. It has been manipulated so that reviewers have been chosen that will by sympathetic to a pro-AGW agenda and others simply rejected.

Also, peer-review is NOT a review of the science but of the methodoloy.  A peer-reviewer may pass a paper which is wrong and he knows it. The uninformed have tried to give peer-review the status of infallibility.

Like I said, peer review is a tool. Peers are others in the same area of expertise. It's not perfect, but it has helped make science a better tool than without it.

The common cold isn't a single disease either.

Superbugs are just bugs that are resistant  to our current treatments. You know like before science found those treatments.

If you can't see what good the technology used to go to the moon did you are either willfully blind or have not spent any time considering it.

Science is responsible for the modern world. You may prefer to live in the past and die of easily curable diseases, but I have no interest in it.

Well technically barnacles stated that human life expectancy has increased because of science.

That's not quite the same thing as population growth, Obviously it has an effect but birth rate is much stronger driver of population growth.

science seems very pleased with itself but lets have a look at whats really happening.

science is very good at looking at simple things with few variables.


so science can produce a microchip that does billions of computations and science can make the internet and science can manipulate a gene and lead to advances in medicine.

but we get all this stuff because
"thats the easy stuff" and the easy stuff always comes first.

but science cant answer the complex questions and the complex questions are not easy though they are much more important.

science cant answer why we have record levels of depression.
science cant answer why people are , more and more, suffering from negative neurotic thinking.
science cant answer the record levels of obesity.
no scientific study can tell you what career to take.
no scientific study can tell you who to marry.

science is a good thing but dont think it is going to answer the major questions about peace and happiness.

You will need great thinkers to answer those.
You can become a great thinker or you can read what great thinkers have said and save yourself decades of struggle.

start with the buddha, socrates, plato, jesus christ, marcus aurelius , luther, St Francis of Assisi, confusius, gandhi , Tony Robbins, Warren Buffet and Lao Tzu .

none of them are scientists , but worth a read  ;)

It's called unprotected sex.

Just think of all these medical scientists who went through Africa handing out condoms and explaining the benefits of family planning, followed closely by the Catholic missionaries who explained that if you donned a con, you'd go to Hell.

Science *can* answer all those things and more.

But science *won't* answer any of them when it is straitjacketed by the interests of furthering power.

Historically very little science has been driven by governments and even less by corporations - individuals with curiosity and drive, supported by patrons was the model that got us where we are. 
That the torch has now been passed to entities with priorities other than the pursuit of knowledge is what ensures we won't keep forging ahead.
