I'm as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you'll excuse an expression I use,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love with a wonderful guy! ;)

No dude, I'm high. Well, I was...

As Herb will tell you, that's the path home from the weed store on Weed Street (think of the Doors 'Love Street' only with weed and less smelly, filthy hippies but more in the way of yuppies) where my "whore ass' walks

What sucks is all these lame, semi-corporate (as in capitalist) plastic gentrification bars springing up all over the place where industrial shops used to be. I walked into one baked right out of my smacking gourd only to find some drippy/yuppie girl playing an out of tune Taylor hacking up Bob Dylan tunes.  Total.Buzz.Kill. From now on it's Coltrane and/or Ray LaMontagne (maybe early Elvis..?)

I'll be posting high, partially high, or in between highs from now on until January-something. I say something because I'm too baked right now to look at a friggin' calendar.

Merry Christmas to all you Aussie capitalists. Best wishes and all that (corporate) jazz.

Flyin low....dyin slow.....sad :'(

Steppenwolf

Snow Blind Friend

Lyrics

You say it was this morning when you last saw your good friend
Lying on the pavement with the misery on his brain
Stoned upon a potion he found upon the wall In some unholy bathroom in some un godly hall
He only had a dollar to live on til next Monday, But he spent it on comfort for his mind- you say you think he's blind.
Someone should call his parents a sister or a brother, And they're bound to take him back home on a bus
But he'll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother
And he'll always be another one of us

He said he wanted heaven but prayin' was to slow So he bought a one way ticket, on an airline made of snow
You say you saw your good friend flyin low, dying slow, flying low, dieng slow flying low
He only had a dollar to live on til next Monday But he spent it on comfort for his mind you say you think he's blind
He said he wanted heaven but prayin was to slow

I wasn't joking about the 'the faces around me at the AA meeting' - never had I seen such a bunch of corrupt, degenerate, foul-looking, gargoyles all together in the one place in my entire life.

I never went back again. I even skipped the tea-and-bikkies at the end of the group hug. Jesus.

Yes - cold turkey with a bucket by my bed did it for me. Lots of toxins in my blood stream needed flushing out.

I have to admit one thing though - my drinking days were the best years of my life, but at some time you've got to stop the bus and get off.

Six years later I stopped smoking ...

Eight years later I stopped sex ...

10 years later I stopped gambling ...

12 years later I stopped pretending to be nice to people ...

14 years later I gave up being a bigot, and a homophobic, Islamophobic, racist misogynist.

My New Years Resolution will be to stop lying ...  8-) :P

It is legal - in SA and The Australian Capital Territory.

Right now I'm listening to a young married couple with a small daughter getting high on some sort of sh*t across the road from me in their rental home.

How do I know?

It's mid-morning and their roof is jumping from a Sound System that's turned up to full blast ...

If you ever come to visit or live in Australia - Nimbin or Byron Bay would be the place for you.

Check it out on Google.

The authorities leave them alone to do as much 'weed' as they like. It's sort of their own independent Principality like Haight-Ashbury used to be.

Not sure if that's weed or lead poisoning.

Choices would be:

Sydney

Melbourne

Perth (which I'm told looks a lot like Wisconsin - so maybe not Perth)

Or some one horse town called "Warracknabeal" because the great Nick Cave is from there.

As far as Australian capital cities go, Adelaide is the where you want to be if weed is your thing.

Perth is the Ice capital.

Correct.

80% of Adelaidians confess to being homosexuals while 20% would never pass a polygraph on the subject ....

Adelaide is called 'The City of Churches' - so you can expect rampant paedophilia down there too.

Ahhh but being sensible (and responsible) is very old fashioned now.

I've never been high.

I've always said no to drugs/cigarettes/getting drunk.

Does that mean I've not lived?

I'd like to think it means I've chosen to live well.

My teenage kids know how I feel about drugs/cigarettes/getting drunk.  And they certainly respect me for being a mum who's kept herself healthy so as to be able to bear and rear healthy kids.

There's a lot to be said for positive role modelling when it comes to these things.

Anyway...

How do you know that?
I agree that pot is not the most motivational substance around, but I know a lot of people who are able to put in a hard week's work and then chill on the weekend with a few joints. Is that so bad?

I wish I liked the stuff more because it's so easy to get. Personally I have found opium to be the most beautiful drug that I've tried.
You can get a little bit of it by just spreading some ordinary poppy seeds from the supermarket. What you will grow won't be enough to cause any addiction.

Weed was never intended to be motivational I'll agree with that. Truth is, I have not touched weed since August 10  before the fall semester started. As for my "existence" well, I'll have my Master's in sociology in May (hopefully). Wonder what Bobby will be doing in May. Being yelled at by his mother for not taking out the trash? Now that Christmas break is here damn right I'm going to relax. And I'm sure if weed was recreationally legal in Australia many on this forum would be using it, too. Particularity during this holiday which, if anyone remembers, was originally a pagan festival.

Hallucinogens, opiates, and and meth-related substances I have zero interest in. Weed for me is simple a relaxing chill and one hell of a stress reducer. There has never been a need for me to go on any trips if you get my drift. However, I known people who do use opiates occasionally and live productive lives. Most are either in law or finance. I knew a lawyer back in 2010 who was popping Oxy like it was candy and somehow managed to find the time to chase ambulances.

Weed is for the most part is tame when compared to alcohol and/or nicotine both of which has killed people by the millions. Yet I'm willing to bet there are a few on this forum who indulge in drink from time to time.

I don't care who criticizes me for using weed. Especially Bobby, who is not the brightest bulb. He proves that in every one of his post. It's legal, recreational, and well regulated where I live. Drug crimes and arrests have dropped significantly since legalization and most people (I say most because there are some real idiots around) do not engage in violent behavior from use.

Dear beloved Marla,

I am glad to see you're doing something constructive by studying for your masters.
From your posts - I thought you were a full time pot head.
Needless to say - one of the side effects of pot is memory loss -
which can't be helpful when trying to recall information for exams.
You will do better to stay off the pot until your exams are completed.

For your information - I left home when I was just turned 19 -
a very very long time ago.
I work for a living & I am only 10 years away from retirement.

forgiven

What sort of existence is that?

You're so right, Bobby. So judgmental and sound. I should have a "life" you know, something like you have: posting crackpot videos, harshly judging people I don't know a thing about and then running to the mods and crying like a little girl the moment somebody says to me that I don't like.

Do me (and the rest of this forum for that matter) a favor and try moving out of your parents basement in 2016 and get off line and personally/socially interact with people. Think you can do that, Bobby?

;D ;D ;D ;D

ouch

Sorry to interrupt, but what's Idaho's reputation to you Americans, Marla? I'm now in communication with a huge and extensive rats nest of cousins I recently discovered living in Boise, Idaho.

Also recently discovered a huge rats nest of close cousins living in Canada.

And then also an enormous network of cousins living in the West Country of England.

And then there's Russia, Germany, Scotland, and France ... huge rats nests of cousins that are waiting for me to contact them ...

Sh*t! Thanks for that, John.

I'm assuming it hasn't been photo-shopped?

I'll look up the crime figures and make a comparison with other States when I have more time.

They're allowed to carry 'concealed weapons' as ordinary citizens -- wow! Scary place to visit. Just keep smiling and you might be all right.

Right, as opposed to the private prison-for-profit industry, the alcohol industry and the tobacco industry. Colorado pulled in over $76 million in taxes that went to schools and scholarships.

http://time.com/4037604/colorado-marijuana-tax-revenue/

Not for a lame "War on Drugs" that has done nothing but cost countless innocent lives on either side of the law enforcement and further to militarize the police.

As for me being a "professional student" I went back to grad school in the fall of 2015 and work part time for non-profit that helps to find housing for homeless veterans. Before that, I worked for a legal agency that helped to find jobs for felons on probation. Of you being a troll, maybe you've been in contact with such similar in your country since you know, you tend to live under a bridge. Matter of fact, I have always had a job since the age of 14.

As for transference (upon which you misappropriately defined) Appears I contribute a lot more to society than trolling. So put on your "uniiform" and just poo the bugger up, okay?

Idaho according to 2014 FBI stats-

Quote:
Murders = 30
Pistol = 10
Rifle = 0
Shotgun = 2
Knife =6
Club bat other weapon = 4
Hands fists feet =5

California,Illinois and New York have strict gun laws which include assault rifle bans and magazine capacity limits, for some reason they have much higher rates of firearm homicides.

I haven't been to Idaho in years. You'd probably love it, Herbie. Loads of white people. Most of them racist and highly paranoid and xenophobic. Even the Neo-Nazis left in the late 2000's due to how crazy white non-Nazis are. You'd fit right in. I was nowhere near Boise but the upper northern part of the state (Sandpoint). Some beautiful scenery though. Would never live there.

Loads of one-horse mountain/fishing towns that are essentially nothing but tourist traps run by greedy capitalist Republicans. No doubt you you'd fit right in there, Herbie.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Lots of white folk and only a sprinkling of the races that fill 80% of America's jails ...

Maybe blacks haven't infiltrated that part of the country yet PRECISELY because the local honkies carry concealed weapons designed especially for the purpose of cappin' their black asses instead of letting taxpayers having to finance the building of more prisons and the cost of jailing them homies from the southern states.

That sort of White Extremism is not for me.

But!!

It's all a question of balance.

High densities of Blacks and Hispanics are a recipe for high crime and lots of tearful victims.

Blunt but quite close to the truth.

I really hate to lump all illegal "drugs" into one conversation, because there is nothing similar about weed and powder drugs other than they are both ilegal in  Australia.
But, the biggest problem is prohibition, no matter how hard the idiots that run this place try they will never stop people using recreational drugs. The problem with prohibition is it is killing our kids and the dickheads in charge know it is. These kids dying at dance parties from overdosing on Ekky pills are doing so as they don't know what is in what they are taking, because some backyard asshole with the intention of making loads of cash is mixing those pills with whatever they happen to have. If drugs were regulated and the kids knew what they were buying and how much of it they could use without killing themself, like they can with booze, we would have a lot less deaths and a lot more tax in government coffers.
As for weed, We are hillbillies, the rest of the world is legalising it and we are increasing the penalties for its use.
Don't get me started on the revenue raising bullsh it of RDT, it is picking up drivers that had smoked, vaped or ate pot up to a week before they were pulled over. The cops are even admitting they are not impaired  but are busting people because the law says you can not have THC in your system, talk about a fascist state. The law is an ass.
Before some idiot calls me a druggie, I'm clean,I have used Coke, and ecstasy in my twenties( I'm in my fifties) and loved kicking back with weed but I have not  had any for years, not because I wouldn't like to, because I would, but because these assholes want to take my license off me if I get RDT and I can't afford to lose it or I lose my job.
I am all for an impairment test as we have with booze
But the current testing regime is pure revenue raising fascism in its purest form.

Too right, I am in favour of giving druggies all the free drugs they want, any drug at all, load up, because it isn't the drugs causing the problems its the prohibition, just as it was in Al Capones day.

Also, in an illegal drug market their is an incentive to promote drug use for reasons of profit, there is actually an incentive for drug pushing scum to stand outside of a school and say hey kids give this a try, in a government controlled semi legalised environment this type of drug promotion would not occur so in fact we would likely see less drug users not more, as we have done with cigarettes.

Bad laws are always changed this one is no different.
Australia is just about out on its own, the most redneck western country in the world now has numerous states where pot is not just decriminalised but LEGAL much of the rest of the USA is following that lead. Canada is about to legalise it throughout the whole country too, it's just a matter of time. 8-)  The revenue raisers here are making the most of the draconian laws while they still can.

Amsterdam has a legal animal sex brothel. some feel that should be legal in this country also. In Saudi Arabia and other countries, honour killings are legal. we have supporters for that in our country also. Of course, if you feel the law is not right thebn work to change it but people like Emma who break the law are still criminals regardless and should be jailed. And that is my point, people cant be selective just because they dont agree with a particular law and there are many who feel marijuana is a destructive dangerous drug.

In reverse logic,

If prohibition causes the problems, perhaps we should make the softer drugs illegal so the crims will focus on making money from them instead of stuff like Ice.

We should introduce prohibition for alcohol and cigs.

Well Emma, that is likely true.  However, there are life experiences which indicate to me that 'weed' is damaging in the long term, given long term use.  Do you deny that?

Title: Re: I'm High
Post by Emma Peel on Dec 22nd, 2015 at 9:47pm
Well of course I acknowledge that any long term use of say tobacco, as a comparison, can damage health.

Using a tincture, on the other hand, would remove the risks involved in smoking the plant
. Other than that, the level of harm actually caused by cannabis use is relatively minor.

For a start it is not addictive.  It may become a habit, but that is entirely down to the choices made by the person. I've known plenty of people over the years, who have stopped smoking, for one reason or the other, and its all about what you choose. I've also known people who have admitted they were addicts and tried to get off alcohol. They have a much harder time, because they are genuinely physically addicted.

Let me tell you,  the corporates that control these things, to a large extend,  are perfectly happy that alcohol is a legal drug. Because ( ? ) they have a ready made legally addicted market that will be always there and always struggling to say no.
Few manage it.

Don't get sanctimonious on me, Aussie, I know  considerably more about it than most posters on this forum.

not all the side effects of weed are long term .. i knew a couple that when on the pot, would argue day and night, sometimes even turning violent towards each other ... however, during their dry spells, they were the best of friends. In the end even they realised it and gave pot up for good. They are happier, and so are their kids.

Hey Aussie, guess what?,  living isn't safe. You never know what is around the corner, BUT you can LIVE your life, as you choose.

As I pointed out, and JS just confirmed... it isn't an addictive drug, but it has many uses.
These are not for everybody, obviously, but to have criminalised it is the WORST possible way to handle the issue.

You fellas have the problem of having been basically 'brain-washed' against cannabis , by the authorities, since you were a gleam in your mummy's eyes.  I don't decry you for that. BUT perhaps shrugging off this imposed view, and fresh thinking may help you on this subject.

From my experience as a mental health worker long term abuse of VB is much worse.
In fact if weed is eaten or vaporised there are no long term effects evident in the majority of users.
Sure you can find one or two, the same as you can find one or two that will have long term effects from dairy products. Should we ban dairy? Or should we ban booze? I don't believe we should ban anything but if I had to make a call it would be booze from my experience that is the major problem with drug abuse.

Having said that, I think hemp is illegal predominantly because it would have stopped the cotton industry in its tracks...

Nothing to do with public health and/or safety, that's just the convenient (who says propaganda doesn't work) spin to give weight to outlawing the plant.

Arguably, one of the most (if not the most) versatile plants on the planet as far as usefulness to us goes at any rate.

You can make rope with it (not just any rope, very good quality rope).

Paper, a wide range of materials (textile), soap, health supplements, skin products, cleaning products, oils, excellent for mulching, fast growing so very market friendly then, as has been pointed out a remarkable range of medicinal purposes/uses that are effective.

And apparently for more than a few people, it provides a humorous high - how extraordinarily evil of it...

So, those who want control of the "free market" would rather it remain illegal, it is far to hard to monopolise - far to easy to access...

Public Health, pfft, it's all about the money being made.

You can make great products out of all sorts of things.
Lets not delude ourselves with the pro dope propaganda
It may have some medicinal qualities, but to get the best benefit from them they need to be dose controlled and pure
Not some hippie rubbish.
You can make rope and textiles, but you can do that with the non THC strains.
You may be able to make paper but I doubt it will be any better, cheaper or more environmentally friendly than growing trees.

And what sort of a Drongo thinks you can whoof cannabis smoke with its tars and other poisons into your lungs and not do yourself any harm.

Seriously the lady doth protest too much methinks.

There is no denying Hemp is a superior crop for Aussie farmers.. beats cotton hands down. Makes superior  everything cotton does, but doesn't need the huge water investment and land degeneration that cotton requires.
Just one of the many benefits we COULD be taking advantage of,  but DONT, because someone  Roll Eyes, decided to make it illegal.

Hi Emma would you pay me the courtesy to read this

https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/plant-biosecurity/industrial-hemp-western-australia

I looked at hemp, I had the land the water the time.
It did not stack up at the time I looked at it.

So things may have changed now.

The point is its not illegal to grow industrial hemp,,, save your money, there is plenty of land to lease in WA where you could grow it yourself.

I am just trying to take the conspiracy theory / paranoia out of the discussion.

Works here.

Quote:
Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa) is a potentially important crop for Western Australia. Fibre can be extracted from the stem or oil from the seeds. Items manufactured from hemp include textiles, paper, rope, fuel, oil, stockfeed and medicine.

The industry in Western Australia is regulated under the Industrial Hemp Act 2004  (the Act).

The Act states that: 'industrial hemp' means cannabis, the leaves and flowering heads of which do not contain more than 0.35% of tetrahydrocannabinol.

US FEDERAL BAN ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA SILENTLY LIFTED

DECEMBER 25, 2015

One of the bills secretly tucked into the 1,603-page $1.1 Trillion Spending Bill is the federal government’s lifting of the decades old ban on medical marijuana.

This should pave the way for the removal of marijuana restrictions in other countries, too.

Not to spoil the fun, but the other bill that’s been secretly passed alongside the spending bill is CISA, giving them the legal framework to continue metadata gathering on every US citizen’s internet activities.

CISA Quietly Passed by Congress thru Sleight of Hand
There could be a bigger picture that must be considered here. We will discuss them in the next few days. In the meantime, do enjoy the holidays.

Mabuhay, Marijuana!

Congress quietly ends federal government’s ban on medical marijuana

Los Angeles Times

Tucked deep inside the 1,603-page federal spending measure is a provision that effectively ends the federal government’s prohibition on medical marijuana and signals a major shift in drug policy.

The bill’s passage over the weekend marks the first time Congress has approved nationally significant legislation backed by legalization advocates. It brings almost to a close two decades of tension between the states and Washington over medical use of marijuana.

Under the provision, states where medical pot is legal would no longer need to worry about federal drug agents raiding retail operations. Agents would be prohibited from doing so.

The Obama administration has largely followed that rule since last year as a matter of policy. But the measure approved as part of the spending bill, which President Obama plans to sign this week, will codify it as a matter of law.

Pot advocates had lobbied Congress to embrace the administration’s policy, which they warned was vulnerable to revision under a less tolerant future administration.

More important, from the standpoint of activists, Congress’ action marked the emergence of a new alliance in marijuana politics: Republicans are taking a prominent role in backing states’ right to allow use of a drug the federal government still officially classifies as more dangerous than cocaine.

“This is a victory for so many,” said the measure’s coauthor, Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of Costa Mesa. The measure’s approval, he said, represents “the first time in decades that the federal government has curtailed its oppressive prohibition of marijuana.”

By now, 32 states and the District of Columbia have legalized pot or its ingredients to treat ailments, a movement that began in the 1990s. Even back then, some states had been approving broader decriminalization measures for two decades.

The medical marijuana movement has picked up considerable momentum in recent years. The Drug Enforcement Administration, however, continues to place marijuana in the most dangerous category of narcotics, with no accepted medical use.

Congress for years had resisted calls to allow states to chart their own path on pot. The marijuana measure, which forbids the federal government from using any of its resources to impede state medical marijuana laws, was previously rejected half a dozen times. When Washington, D.C., voters approved medical marijuana in 1998, Congress used its authority over the city’s affairs to block the law from taking effect for 11 years.

Even as Congress has shifted ground on medical marijuana, lawmakers remain uneasy about full legalization. A separate amendment to the spending package, tacked on at the behest of anti-marijuana crusader Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), will jeopardize the legalization of recreational pot in Washington, D.C., which voters approved last month.

Marijuana proponents nonetheless said they felt more confident than ever that Congress was drifting toward their point of view.

“The war on medical marijuana is over,” said Bill Piper, a lobbyist with the Drug Policy Alliance, who called the move historic.

“Now the fight moves on to legalization of all marijuana,” he said. “This is the strongest signal we have received from Congress [that] the politics have really shifted. … Congress has been slow to catch up with the states and American people, but it is catching up.”

The measure, which Rohrabacher championed with Rep. Sam Farr, a Democrat from Carmel, had the support of large numbers of Democrats for years. Enough Republicans joined them this year to put it over the top. When the House first passed the measure earlier this year, 49 Republicans voted aye.

Some Republicans are pivoting off their traditional anti-drug platform at a time when most voters live in states where medical marijuana is legal, in many cases as a result of ballot measures.

Polls show that while Republican voters are far less likely than the broader public to support outright legalization, they favor allowing marijuana for medical use by a commanding majority. Legalization also has great appeal to millennials, a demographic group with which Republicans are aggressively trying to make inroads.

Approval of the pot measure comes after the Obama administration directed federal prosecutors last year to stop enforcing drug laws that contradict state marijuana policies.

Henry Ford's 'plastic hemp car' from 1941
We might think that our ethanol and biodiesel "flex-fuel" systems are all very cutting edge, but biofuel development is of course nothing new. Way back in the 1930's, Henry Ford was hard at work in the alt-fuels sector, and in 1941 he constructed a hemp-fueled and hemp-bodied prototype car. The "plastic" body panels were composed of 70% cellulose fibers, including industrial hemp, mixed with a resin binder, and apparently they were pretty sturdy: check out this video, in which a guy beats on the trunk with an axe and fails to leave a mark. Industrial hemp won't make you high, kids, but its association with marijuana has historically been a major legal stumbling block. VIEW VIDEO OF FORDS HEMP CAR HAVING A HAMMER TAKEN TO IT !!

The reason marijuana was prohibited in the 20th century was to suppress hemp fuel and fiber production, which is inexpensive to make and naturally decentralized, so that small groups of people could profit from the capital intensive petrochemical alternatives that dominate our political process and economy today. Hemp will decentralize our economic system and return wealth and control to the majority. Hemp & marijuana both come from the same plant, cannabis sativa, which is the Latin, botanical name. Hemp is the fiber from the stalks and stems and the sterile seeds, while marijuana is the leaves, flowers and viable seeds. Some people believe that hemp with a low THC content is one species, and that it becomes a different plant, marijuana, when the THC level in the cannabis plant goes above 0.3 percent, but it is really the same plant. It is really about fuel, fiber and the synthetic subversion of the natural cycle. Drugs are only a smokescreen. Marijuana prohibition has always been about money, power, and control..

I can understand you're curious Ian, so I'll tell you the memories. And they aren't what you'd choose to believe. Or remember.

Around 25 yrs ago ..we got married and moved far away.
Time passes. About 3 yrs.
A very dear friend of my husband, and mine, to a lesser extent, at that time, came to stay with us. He was an Aussie.

We were building our first home together, and this friend was a plasterer by trade, and he put in some real good work on our ceilings while he stayed. He was obviously upset about what was happening back down there, and eventually it came out.

His missus had done the dirty on him with another fella, and he felt estranged from their new baby. (We'd known her as his girlfriend) He loved that song.

This other fella had knocked over his Harley, and kicked his dog, as well, and taunted him. Much as we tried to keep him calm and safe, he couldn't stay away.
After about three weeks, he hopped a bus back. ( I begged him please don't do anything stupid.!!) He just sort of shrugged and smiled as the bus pulled away.

Next we heard.. he had taken a weapon, a shotgun I think, and went to where his missus was staying. The other fella wasn't there.

He fought with his missus, and when another person living there intervened, he killed him. He then left the house, with the Police closing on his heels, went to a nearby park and blew his own head off . :'( :'( :'( :'(

Marla might like to know that some years ago a police survey in South Australia listed driving offenders as ..

1. The worst were drink-drivers.

2. The second worst were just ordinary people with no substances in their blood.

3. And the best of the three were drivers with marijuana's THC in their blood.  ;D

Nowadays I don't drink and drive, nor do I drive whilst under the influence of Pot.
BUT in my younger days, well I did it all, and one thing I know,

I was a better driver when stoned, than I was straight.  I was much more 'aware', and had quick reflexes.
I didn't drink drive then, altho when even younger, I did. I escaped with no harm from that, but realised it was trouble waiting to happen. Not a good idea at all.

I agree with your post.  I remember hearing similar  yrs ago.  ie stoned drivers were better than drunk or straight. That was before meth or coke got a grip on people, but I'm sure still holds true..

I never drive under the influence of anything these days.. it isn't smart.

Especially when you can be drug-tested. It concerns me that the current tests for Pot done by Police don't reflect the reality.

A person can have measurable THC in their system, but NOT be under the influence while driving.
Because that IS the reason for the testing, isn't it? To catch people driving impaired.

I wonder what would occur if Police had to 'prove'  that a positive result for Pot actually meant the driver was under the influence and driving impaired.

If it hasn't happened yet.. I expect a challenge to being called a drug driver, soon

I've left out the "quick reflexes" ... but yes, that's what the article in the Sydney Morning Herald says: Precisely because you KNOW you've smoked some dope - you drive with greater caution to avoid accidents or being pulled over by a traffic cop for some minor infringement that will have him suspecting you're stoned.

The article goes on to say that the ratio of substance abuse in people involved in car accidents nowadays is a staggering 30 to 1 hard drugs to alcohol in the system. That's a hell of a statistic.

And what's going on out there on the country roads is downright terrifying --

Speed is the #1 killer ... and then drugs, usually Ice. It's a battle ground. A war zone. I used to be terrified every time my brother took me down to Sanctuary Point where he had moved to after his divorce.

The trucks would tail-gate us at high speed ... angry bogans full of illicit drugs in their systems to keep them awake for the trip down to Melbourne and back. It was Mad Max all the way to Sanctuary Point and back. Lunatics on the roads.

The 'aggressive-driving' on those narrow coastal roads would have been a Heaven for Aquascoot -- all Alpha-males jostling for pole position.

Ice is cheap and easily available - and needless to say, our lawmakers and politicians are terrified of upsetting the boys back in UN Headquarters if they should ramp up the penalties enough to seriously give cause for the traffickers and dealers to consider another line of employment.

And so the sellers believe the risks are worth the financial rewards. Out of jail in 3 years with Good Behaviour. Trust to your commonsense - there IS no War on Drugs.

The fact that I never got into a vehicular accident , despite encountering same really bad drivers, (ever driven in QLD? ) , and never been booked for any offenses relative to substance abuse, speaks for itself.

No.

It's basically an attack on cannabis users and truck-drivers, brought
to you by the fox-ticks whose latest 'hit' is the terminally-ridiculous
and reality-challenged 'Stoner Sloth' ad.

It has NOTHING to do with road safety per se.

If it did, they'd be testing for things like Endone, OxyContin, Valium
speed etc, and cannabis wouldn't even be on the list.

And, without a 'legal limit' and with cannabis 'showing up' LONG after

Sort of off topic BUT..until the Robert Downey Jnr PARDON.. Now he gets the right to vote.!! :o :o :o

Stunning.!! Mind-blowing.!!  Once a convicted druggie ALWAYS a substandard human being apparently. GOOD GRIEF !!

I HAD NO IDEA JUST HOW DISCRIMINATORY was the manner in which the US treated it's OWN CITIZENS in this respect.
Surely that is in opposition to the precepts that founded the Union?.

I am amazed at my own ignorance and naivete. . !!

I mean, like lots of kids in the Antipodes, I had a love affair with 'America'. Only as I matured did I see the blindness of this childish faith.

Something else too.
Sort of off topic BUT..until the Robert Downey Jnr PARDON.. Now he gets the right to vote.!! :o :o :o

......................................... I hadn't realised that the US, land of the free,  denied voting rights as citizens to people who had drug convictions, ad infinitum.!!
Stunning.!! Mind-blowing.!!  Once a convicted druggie ALWAYS a substandard human being apparently. GOOD GRIEF !!
>:(

I HAD NO IDEA JUST HOW DISCRIMINATORY was the manner in which the US treated it's OWN CITIZENS in this respect.
Surely that is in opposition to the precepts that founded the Union?.

I am amazed at my own ignorance and naivete. . !!

I mean, like lots of kids in the Antipodes, I had a love affair with 'America'. Only as I matured did I see the blindness of this childish faith.

Feet of Clay.

But it doesn't HAVE to be that way in Oz.

I'm not...

What do you mean?  30 drugs to 1 alcohol?

I dont quite get your point, ... you can't lump all drugs together..alcohol is a drug.

What  are you saying.?

For every one person who tests positive for alcohol abuse in rural accidents attended by the police - 30 people are tested positive for drugs such as ice.

Quite honestly I find this hard to believe, but that's what they're saying in the Sydney Morning Herald.

The amount of methamphetamines now circulating in the country towns is epidemic - and our law-makers and politicians are too much in a funk to introduce the sort of laws that would make the punishment fit the crime, and so there's little incentive for the perpetrators to stop making this stuff.

makes me glad i always fly to sydney

Well scooter,?, it might be safer, and if money and the environment don't matter, then fly, ahole.

I drive very few miles these days, nor would I FLY ANYWHERE , given an alternative. I stay close to home, and do as little harm as possible.

I'm with David Suzuki on flying.

Don't do it.!
It sickens me when I hear all these Aussie folks saying they'll fly to Disneyland with the kids, or Bali, or Hawaii for the holidays.

What arrogance, wealth to spare, and IGNORANCE.!

I think you should drive yourself to ATODDS stat
