Title: Shark Attack. Post by Emma Peel on Dec 21st, 2015 at 6:49pm
I think this whole thing with the increases in shark attacks on humans ..world-wide, is predicated on their survival.
Sharks have been around a whole lot longer than surfers and swimmers, AND .. ;) these hungry predators are finally getting the message. It is sinking into the shark senses, that there is a new form of food available.. and they are pretty easy. Slow, in fact, not like seals. So, the word is getting around.. there is some tasty tucker to be had. ONCE upon a time, this was all new to them. NOW they are spreading the word. Expect an exponential increase in shark attacks on humans in the next few yrs. |
Title: Re: Shark Attack. Post by greggerypeccary on Dec 21st, 2015 at 7:03pm Stay out of the water, and you won't be attacked by a shark. Next problem! |

Pissing the bald monkeys off is not a good evolutionary tactic.

Probably a lot more sharks around now thanks to the whales and seals making a huge come back, well a lot more white pointers around anyway as these are not targeted for food unlike a lot of other shark species which are probably in decline, also game fishing for white pointers has been banned.
So there would be a double whammy, more people in the water thanks to the human population explosion and more great whites around too thanks to them breeding up on their now protected food supplies of whales and seals. |

Well this a lesson learnt by lots of now-extinct species, too late though. And the thing about sharks ? They live in the massive oceans that cover our beautiful planet, and we don't. We don't breathe water, so I'd say the odds, one-on-one , are definitely in favor of the sharks. |

Kill the sharks. easy. we did it to the sabre tooth tigers and other species which threatened our existence.

In essence you represent the quintessential 'entitled' generation.
You think Australia is special ( as do I ) ..but you think we are somehow entitled to keep grabbing onto and using everything in sight,, everyone else be damned.. when in the harshness of reality, we Aussies are just people, like all the other suffering masses in the world. Its just that until recently we have been isolated .. the" Tyranny of Distance". No longer exists. We are part of the world, and this arrogance is going to take a hard fall. :( |
Title: Re: Shark Attack. Post by AiA on Dec 21st, 2015 at 10:52pm
If one species is removed it affects the entire ecosystem in ways that man may not realize for a long time. Like wolves and trees in Yellowstone Park. That link wasn't realized until wolves were reintroduced into the Park and the elk were not able to eat everything in sight so some trees began to mature for the first time since the 1920s.

The increase in shark attacks can be almost entirely attributed to an increase in the numbers of humans in the water. Not just an increase in beaches near the major cities, but also the spread of the population into areas that were sparsely populated. Especially in Australia. We love a good beachside property.

seems he was swimming alongside a school of Mackerel. The reported 3 metre shark, using the school as cover, burst from hiding and attacked the spear-fisher head-on. No mistake there. He is now fighting against massive wounds to his arms and legs, attributed to his fighting off the shark. Now, I don't say the fella shouldn't have been there. But it was his decision , and people have got to realise, that WE DO NOT RULE everything on earth, and we are just meat animals, however highly we regard ourselves.. |
