Title: Bunnings going o/s
Post by bogarde73 on Jan 14th, 2016 at 9:32am
Wesfarmers, the owners of Bunnings, are poised to take over Homebase in the UK, a huge chain of DIY & hardware retailers like themselves.

This is a positive move, as opposed to their usual strategy of expanding market share here.
Hopefully it brings home foreign profits and doesn't get shuttled off to the Cayman Islands.

Good move, lets hope they succeed!

I saw a Harvey Norman store over there some years ago.

Might bankrupt them if UK economy turns down sharply. They evidently believe there will be a spending splurge following recent floods. However, it depends on how much they paid and whether there is sustained profitability.

I suspect few foreign companies have succeeded in the UK market.

Yep they have, but I think they bought into already troubled banks in a troubled industry in the UK.
Retail hardware is probably a different proposition.

Bunnings has an opportunity to corner the UK market for industrial grade Map of Tassie Merkins.

Well, WE have already started "the long collapse", But things are set to get a lot worse in 2016 & for "some time" to come.

So, the timing of Bunnings expanding overseas could be worse, BUT I can't think how!
