Title: Could Turnbull Do This
Post by Labor voter on Jan 20th, 2016 at 10:37am
Donald Trump said late yesterday he’d force Apple, America’s most profitable company, to manufacture all of its products in the U.S. if he's elected president. "We're going to get Apple to build their damn computers and things in this country instead of in other countries," he said during a speech at Liberty University in Virginia.

It’s a smart political move for Trump, who’s evidently expanding his xenophobia from immigrants and Muslims to American companies making their products outside the United States – and simultaneously offering a whacky idea for how to create more jobs in America. It’s whacky because those jobs would either have to pay the same dirt-poor wages they pay abroad, or else the cost of Apple iPhones and other products would have to rise substantially for American consumers to make up for the higher American wages -- unless Trump has in mind taking over Apple and channeling its profits into wages and lower consumer prices rather than to Apple executives and investors. But if Trump intends a government takeover of Apple, he’s far left of Bernie Sanders’s democratic socialism. He’s preaching communism.

What do you think?

If he tries to do that, he might find Apple is no longer a US company.

Exactly.

It's just like the Greens making promises.

They can say whatever they like, because they know they'll never form Government.

Trump will never be POTUS, and he knows it.

He's just having a bit of fun.

Trump sets new standards for idiocy every time he opens his mouth. The stupidity of his idea beggars belief because what the world really needs right now is a trade war or does he think once Apple products double in price that its Asian competitors wont crush the market?

How does this guy get any support at all?

Or worse. He might find it is no longer a company at all.

they said that Abbott would never be PM and look at the way Murdoch told Australians how to vote and most done what he said. They follow his advice like sheep to the slaughter

Apple computers are outrageously over price now - the cost would double ?

I doubt that they would be able to sell apple computers at a USA manufactured price.

Apple trades on the facts that technophiles will happily pay 50% more for an iphone with less features than an Android phone. Double that price again and I bet most will stop buying.

If he becomes President (God forbid) and tries to enact a policy like that, he'll very quickly scare off investment in the US and crash the US economy, with tens of thousands of job losses. Trump is an imbecile, much like the Greens and as with all fad's, he'll soon pass (hopefully) and be forgotten.

I see the Republican party is even taking steps to deny him the nomination, even if he wins the primaries. Of course all that will mean is a split in the republican vote and a landslide Hilary Clinton win.

Nothing. I would vote for Hilary if I lived there.
