Title: We need a National ICAC Post by Redneck on Jan 21st, 2016 at 12:25pm
Not a green myself but think this is way overdue
GreenNeck ;) It’s time to get money out of parliament, and to establish a national corruption watchdog to clean up politics. Recent revelations of misuse of political entitlements make it clear that anti-corruption measures at a federal level are inadequate. Every State now has an anti-corruption commission. The Federal government is now the only jurisdiction without the infrastructure to confront corruption. Every time wrongdoing is exposed, one-off reviews or ad-hoc investigations are launched. We need a permanent commission to prevent corruption occurring and investigate claims as they arise. The Greens already have a bill to establish a National ICAC before before the Parliament -- now the Labor and Liberal parties just need to support it. Among other integrity measures, the bill would establish a new Office of the Independent Parliamentary Adviser to advise MPs and Ministers on entitlements claims and the ethical running of their office that the public rightly expects. The adviser will also be tasked with developing a legally binding code of conduct for MPs for the Parliament to adopt. We urgently need a National ICAC to oversee anti-corruption measures at a federal level in the same way that state ICACs do. Add your voice to our call to clean up politics: http://campaigns.greens.org.au/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1792&ea.campaign.id=40551 |

I agree, although getting majority support would be likely impossible, as it would largely involve the Libs and Labor tying their own noose.

I will vote for greens is they're dinkum about taking this all the way, clean house , implement jail time deterents then my faith that there some order in the house will be restored. This in collaboration with political donations is a major issue for myself as a voter.

You're quite right, I mean when has any government body, or govement commission ever been corrupted and/or failed to do it's job, as long as they have good intentions and enough money, they'll put a real stop to govement corruption.
If you should however like to actually solve the problem, consider giving the government less power, and less money (through taxes), only allowing it power in certain, very specific areas, Increasing government is no way to keep government accountable. |

The Greens are NOT dinkum about this, too great a danger some of their wealthy inner city base would get caught up by a federal ICAC. Just look at the sell out on tax transparency, gotta protect that base. But they will talk about it heaps. Greens talk the talk but don’t walk the walk and it is because of the Greens that we have gulags but no ETS. |
