We need people in unions to start switching on , it's a bit more than just paying your dues , get active in the campaigns , chuck a sicky and go on a march , with only 16% national density its little wonder nobody is listening because we choose to sit on the couch instead of getting out their and hopping in to this parasitic government.

Blaming the worker, and not the employer. Typical. Why is it that rightards always support criminals? |

The 7-Eleven business and franchise model obviously does not work unless the employees there are screwed, simple as that.

Yes piss poor business practice by the employer too, I would have got them down to 30 cents 8-)

There are times when taxi drivers earn 0 dollars an hour, how taxi plate owners can live with themselves is beyond me, they should all be arrested.

It seems funny to me that the ALP is all about multiculturalism and unionism. Curry munchers and Asians don't join unions.

That's right DPG
Despite 7Elevens pitiful example of exploitation this so called "student" from Pakistan would not have been in a Union. And there's a fair chance the "student" label is like it is for so many more .... a guise/rort to get into the country to work. |

so a taxi driver who works a 10 hr shift and only ends up with $100 in fares ($50 for him) isn't being taken advantage off? |
Title: Re: Why we need unions Post by Gnads on Feb 16th, 2016 at 7:48am
They work up to 15 hrs.
It's BS. In my job we often have to use taxis when required to go & take over from other drivers (locomotive/train) because they have worked to their shift limitations. It could be in the middle of the night & sometimes 2 or 3 hrs drive. Many is the time that a cab driver will turn up for a job at 2 or 3 am to go on 4 or 5 hr round trip jobs & they have been at work since 5 or 6 pm the day before. It's something that the Transport Dept. should review. We generally enquire to the time a Cabbie has started work or ask when ordering for someone who has started fresh. But much of the time that is not accommodated .... just like drivers who turn up in those rough as guts maxi vans. Unsuitable for long distance jobs. |
