A FORMER schoolteacher found with child porn of young boys has been given probation and let off without a conviction so he can apply for a Blue Card again.

Simon Birt pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court yesterday to possessing child exploitation material after police searched his Worongary home in August 2014 and later uncovered seven sexually explicit photos and an 11-minute video of boys aged 9 to 12.

The court was told Birt was a Year 3 teacher who had gone on to become an accountant after the incident but would have trouble re-registering if a conviction was recorded.

How is it, that a school teacher who pleads guilty can have no conviction recorded so that he is free to teach again if he so chooses?

This guy should never be allowed near kids on his own again..Pathetic.

I'd like to see a system where the Judge is accountable for contentious decisions if there are further offences.

In this case, the judge was a Dick.

he pled guilty ... the judges only reason for not recording a conviction is so that he has the potential to work with kids again ... If he touches or interferes with another child ever again, the judge should face the same charges that he does.

I don't know, and I don't know what "lower end of the seriousness scale" specifically means or refers to (photographically.)  The sentencing Judge, and all the parties do.
