Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion has criticised backbench MP Dennis Jensen over his speech likening remote Aboriginal community residents to "noble savages".

Mr Jensen made the remark in the Lower House on Monday night, as part of a speech on the perils of sinking public money into remote communities.

Labor and the Greens have been calling on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Indigenous Affairs Minister to publicly condemn the comments.

Questions were put to Mr Turnbull and Senator Scullion's offices yesterday, with no official response.

You'd need the context to judge this one. You can't just take the expression "noble savage", separate off "savage", and shout racist. "Noble savage" is a specific phrase, referencing a debate on the benefits (or not) of civilisation.

And yet it is not incorrect, Aboriginal people commit these crimes out of all proportion to their numbers. The raping and the pedophilia and the child abuse and the rampant crime is offensive, and it is caused by Aboriginal people.
