This is the worst government ever.

I'm looking forward to seeing them voted out on July 2nd.

I come out of it alright but i'm disappointed there wasn't more help for the lower end of town.

Not liberal voters i suppose.

A raise in the age pension is well overdue, as well as a lift in Newstart.

Yet the defect is now considerably higher than when the ALP were in power.

Go figure.

Just got this via email from Chris Burke....the ALP immediate response:

The difference between Labor and Liberal could not be more stark tonight — we'll put people first, while the 2016 budget has shown the Liberal Party will look after high income earners and multinationals.

So here’s what I’ve learnt tonight so far.

This budget fails to set Australia up for the future — by cutting services, cutting infrastructure, cutting skills and education. In the budget tonight:

An extended GP Tax by stealth
    Cuts to schools
    Cuts to Medicare
Cuts to families and pensioners that will increase the cost of living
    Cuts to higher education
    Tax cuts for multinationals
    Cuts to veterans’ hospitals

But of everyone, Australian families are the biggest losers tonight:

Individuals who earn the most will get a double tax cut – someone on $1,000,000 will get a $16,715 tax cut tonight while three quarters of Australian taxpayers receive absolutely nothing.
A couple with a single income of $65,000 with three children in primary school are $3,034 worse off a year – and receive no tax cuts.
A single mother with an income of $87,000 with two children in high school is $4,463 worse off per year as a result of tonight’s budget.

Finally, the Liberals have done very little about repairing the budget:

Tonight’s budget forecasts higher taxes than at any time while Labor was in government.
It confirms the Government has lost control of the deficit – it has tripled the deficit in three years, while debt continues to grow.
At the same time, the budget confirms unnecessary spending, including the Government’s new $1,000 baby bonus.

Or national Govt. debt  is now over $450 billion.

more than twice what Rudd & Gillard racked up.

Not liberal voters i suppose.

A raise in the age pension is well overdue, as well as a lift in Newstart.

Is the dole still $244 per week?

Greggy is not on the dole -

he earns over $87,000 per annum.

Whoops, missed that bit. I wasn't expecting evolution from the Mechanic.

Can't wait for Shorty's reply.    :o

I already know a pensioner who had to down size to a unit because they couldn't afford their rates.
A modest house was over $3,600 per annum.

Someday they won't let you, so now you must agree
The times they are a-telling,

You've read it in the tea leaves, and the tracks are on TV
Beware the savage jaw

They'll split your pretty cranium, and fill it full of air
And tell that you're eighty, but brother, you won't care
You'll be shooting up on anything, tomorrow's never there

No - that's an ordinary house in Springvale - way away from the
top suburbs of Melbourne.
Actually - it's not a pensioner - it's someone who can't work
because they injured their back at work &
have received no DSP & no compensation.
They are living by redrawing on their mortgage.

top suburbs of Melbourne.
Actually - it's not a pensioner - it's someone who can't work
because they injured their back at work &
have received no DSP & no compensation.
They are living by redrawing on their mortgage.

thats a totally different thing and you know it bobs.. stop giving us oldies a bad name....it is tough on dsp.. I grant you you have to cut your cloth I am afraid...lets be honest we are lucky to have DSP in  the first place....

He's not on the DSP.

He gets nothing.
He's slowly losing his house by redrawing on his mortgage to live.

You have to be like Christopher Reeve - sucking out of a straw
while in a wheel chair to get the DSP now.

Seriously Bobby, your thread title.
What about Did the country get anything?
Is it always about me, my pocket?
Isn't that where we're going wrong with who we elect?

The title of this thread is most revealing.
Did you get anything? ;)

I would hope what most people "got" is a chance to approach our great country with a "spirit of contribution".

Personally, i got a new bill to pay  on my high income super contributions :D :D.

This is not a problem.

Everything good we create will be attacked and there is a cost to defending it.

I thought scott produced a fairly good budget and , now, undoubtedly, malcolm will win the next election.

But there is still this terrible "neediness" in the australian population.

A neediness to blame the government, big business, the banks, the military industrial complex, bad luck, their boss...for their own failures in life.
they always leave one thing off their lists...themselves.

Everyone born in australia or migrating to australia has a SUPER ABUNDANCE of resources...more resources then any people that have ever lived.
They should drop to their knees and weep with gratitude every morning.

If you arent doing well in australia, it is not due to lack of resources, it is due to your own lack of resourcefulness.
No government can give this to you and anyone who would look to the government to solve any of their problems has a deeply flawed narrative.
they are truly lost  :D :D

Built with what remaining industrial infrastructure?

•      Export trade deals to generate new business opportunities;
For ten cattle growers in the NT?

•      Tax cuts and incentives for small business and hard working families;
and for big business, and all families are hard-working so those under the mythical $80k are just leaners it seems

•      A sustainable budget with crackdowns on tax avoidance and loopholes; and
Promise to hunt down multi-nationals - talk's cheap.  All the major loop-holes for business remain

•      Guaranteed funding for health, education and roads.
Healthcare rebates frozen, meaning steady rise in cost to the end user, education has been chopped and not restored..... what?  More 'private' roads so we can pay double and treble?

whats Bill got except a Black Hole?
Nobody knows yet until he gives it all out... but I can't see that tobacco excise will be the big saviour

not quite - I never got help from anyone.
Everything I have has been paid for by working myself to death.

Over 2 years ago I was unemployed for 10 months & never received a single cent from Centerlink -
nothing - not even a health card
after 22 years of working in a job..
After being back in the workforce for 2 years I'm back on my feet
from my own hard efforts.

No - that's an ordinary house in Springvale - way away from the

In truth there is not a whole lot that pee sized Aussie can do about it no matter who has their hands on the levers. US, UK, most of Europe, Japan and now China showing some wobbly signs.

Best we can hope for is keep the fallout as small as possible.
